In some cases, 3D visualisation is more attractive than 2D. While some researchers worked on 3D ECT, the imaging speed was very slow, far away from real time. This paper introduces an approach to real-time 3D visualization in ECT, which can generate 3D images at almost the same speed as the traditional 2D images.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132300170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The interest in using microwave frequencies for imaging arises from the super-resolution capability, and low operating cost. In the medical field, non-ionizing properties and patient convenience are major advantages. However, the realization of this imaging technique faces several challenges, mainly related to sophisticated mathematical inversion techniques and experimental data acquisition systems although its foundations were laid out more than three decades ago, given the difficulty in obtaining accurate and effective dielectric reconstructions. This paper provides an insight on microwave imaging, focusing on techniques and procedures in realizing the super-resolution accuracy.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115686143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed approach consists of two main modules corresponding to the training and testing sessions, respectively. During training, we employ an ontology-based framework with a view to the establishment of a database holding information regarding several geometrical attributes of the training objects. An accurate estimation of the 3D pose of an object-target is obtained during the testing phase and through the efficient exploitation of the established database. The most common solution to the 3D pose estimation problem implies extensive training sessions that are based on oversampled datasets containing several instances objects captured under varying view-points. However, such an approach engenders high complexity accompanied by large computational burden. We address this issue by proposing an ontology-based framework and a fuzzy-based approach that is able to efficiently interpolate between two known instances of the trained objects. Experimental results justify both our theoretical claims and our choice to adopt an ontology-based solution.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116034972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we presented a digital and analog mixed ECT system using combining electrode strategy. The system can be configured flexibly as typical ECT sensor mode and also the newly proposed combining electrode mode. Both the digital phase-sensitive demodulation and the typical analog multiplication demodulation were implemented in this system. Reconstructions using the experimental data of traditional 8-electrode ECT sensor, combined symmetrical 8-electrode mode and combined asymmetrical 8-electrode mode were presented respectively. The proposed ECT system can be flexibly configured as different modes and satisfy the requirement of different applications and research.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"616 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116077152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Presented approach improves the classification system by enhancing the components more relevant to the recognition. It is based on the maximization of interclass Euclidean distance by utilization of information from all classes. A weighted nearest neighbor classifier is used for the classification. A mini-batch principle is implemented into the training process in order to boost the learning speed, which is a bottleneck for traditional batch algorithms. We report how the weighting can be applied to the task of Local Binary Patterns-based face recognition. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated on a color FERET database.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123836736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

BEM (boundary element method) is an effective way to analyze some electromagnetic problems with integral formulations. By point collocation, the boundary integral equation can be transformed into linear equations. Then numerical method is used to solve the linear equations and finally the solution of the original PDE equations can be obtained. For perfect electric conductor (PEC) between coils, the induced voltage of the receiver coil due to the conductor can be calculated using the secondary magnetic field scattered from the target. Here we compute the sensitivity distributions between two coils due to a PEC object using perturbation method, and the results show that BEM is an effective way to calculate sensitivity maps in magnetic induction problems.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128489710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The demodulation result can be easily obtained by rectifying the sinusoidal measurement signal in a digital way. The proposed demodulation method has some distinguished characteristics: (a) with a concise configuration, it can be implemented on simple digital signal processors without hardware multipliers, e.g. Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD); (b) no reference signals are involved, (c) according to the requirements of precision and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), the demodulation process can be accomplished within k/2 (k=1, 2, 3, ...) sine wave periods; and (d) the effectiveness of the proposed method is not influenced by the starting time of demodulation. Mathematical analysis and numerical simulation results are presented to prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the digital demodulation method based on sine wave rectification.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125908353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an algorithm to extract the 3-D medial axis of a burner flame and use it as a descriptor for the flame shape characterization. The algorithm is based on the 2-D medial axes of two flame images captured from two orthogonal directions of the burner using a flame imaging system. Since the data of the extracted features are much less than those of the original image, the computing process is simplified and efficient. Experimental results demonstrate that the flame 3-D medial axis determined using the proposed algorithm reflects its dynamical movement. Together with the radial parameter of the defined medial axis, a range of 3-D geometric parameters of the flame can be estimated.","PeriodicalId":213330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques Proceedings","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114456004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
