In the present study, we examined and compared respiratory, circulatory and metabolic changes between HNB tobacco users and conventional tobacco users. Subjects and Methods: For two years from 2016 to 2017, in all smokers examined annual health check-up at our health care center, we divided them into two groups, one is those who continued smoking only conventional cigarrete (continuer), and the other has completely changed cigarette for HNB tobacco during this period (changer). In each group, we compared the changes of body weight, white blood cell count (WBC), the pulmonary function data (forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), peak flow, etc), cardiovascular factors (blood pressure, urinary albumin excretion), lipids (high and low density lipoproteins (HDL, LDL), and triglyceride). Results: All subjects are male. Number, average age, smoking history of continuer and changer are 292, 152, 42.4, 40.1 years old, 18.6, 14.9 pack year, respectively. Statistical significance were recognized only in changers. FEV1 (45ml, p Conclusions: Improvement of pulmonary functions and blood pressure elavations in changers suggest that HNB tobacco may have β agonistic like effects. WBC decrease was considered as the results of reduced systemic inflammation. The assumption that e-cigarettes are less harmful than cigarettes has not been properly researched. In particular, studies on passive vaping by sensitive subgroups of the population are virtually non-existent. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) experience adverse effects of short-term passive exposure to e-cigarette vape. Here we present the results of preliminary statistical analyses performed before decoding exposures. Methods: In a climate chamber, we performed a double-blinded cross-over study with exposures lasting 3h to passive vaping or clean air among subjects with moderately severe COPD. We studied pulmonary function, exhaled NO and 28 self-reported symptoms before, during and after the exposures. Results: Sixteen patients (6 female; 10 male) with a mean age of 68 years recruited from an outpatient clinic completed the study. At entry the mean FEV1 was 1.43 L (53% of predicted), FVC was 2.53 L (74% of predicted) with a FEV1/FVC ratio of 0.57. FEV1 improved during the exposures and none of the exposures affected lung function negatively. The only symptom reported to be augmented during one compared with the other exposure was “current strength of smell” (p=0.038). Conclusion: Based on the preliminary analysis it appears that at the exposure levels in the present study, pulmonary function in patients with COPD was not affected by passive vaping. The study also suggests that blinding of e-cigarette vape exposure is difficult to obtain due to the odor. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of e-cigarette and cigarette smoking usage among students in Europe. Methods: The study was carried out as a part of international multi-centre cross-sectional study - YoUng People E-Smoking Study (YUPESS). A population based survey was performed among students from five countries: Belarus (B), Lithuania (L), Poland (P), Russia (R) and Slovakia (S). We used previously validated, created for the purpose of the study, questionnaire focused on e-cigarette and cigarette smoking habits. Results: The study population were 11974 students (6797 medical, 5177 non-medical) aged 20.7±2.4 y-rs: the response rate was 73%. Ever e-cigarette use declared 43.1% of the respondents (B:42.7%; L:56.7%; P:44.1%; R:33.4%; S:34.4%; p Conclusions: Among students cigarettes are more popular than e-cigarettes. The highest prevalence of e-cigarette usage was observed in Russia and Lithuania.
