In such cases multiple risk factors have been incriminated such as the presence of the malignancy, particularly in cases in which an ovarian primary is suspected, the necessity of performing extended pelvic resections, the length of the surgical procedure, the position of the patient on the operating table or the difficult and late postoperative mobilization of the patient. The aim of the current paper is to report the cases of six patients who developed severe postoperative embolic complications after surgery for advanced stage ovarian cancer and to analyze the risk factors which seem to increase the risk of developing such adverse effects.","PeriodicalId":21278,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Medical Journal","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89652811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pathogenesis of this disease is not fully understood so far, multiple theories being proposed. However, more recently, attention was focused on identifying the role of genetic factors in endometriosis development. In the current paper we aimed to review the most important theories regarding pathogenesis. Furthermore we discuss the genetic factors regarding this illness as well as other genes that are suspected to be culprits in leading to this pathology.","PeriodicalId":21278,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Medical Journal","volume":"54 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85863614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
