METHODS: A total of 30 female Wistar-Albino rats constituted the research material. The rats were categorized into three groups: Group 1 was administered one milliliter of 0.9% NaCl solution, Group 2 was administered 7.5 mg/kg cisplatin, and Group 3 was administered 7.5 mg/kg cisplatin and 10 mg/kg resveratrol. Ovaries were extirpated in all groups and subjected to biochemical and histopathological tests. Cisplatin-induced damage to ovarian tissue was graded and scored as the total histopathological findings score. The ovarian function was assessed using immunohistochemical staining for c-kit expression. Rats’ malondialdehyde, catalase, and superoxide dismutase levels were determined. RESULTS: The histopathological finding score was significantly higher in Group 2 than in other groups (p<0.05). The superoxide dismutase and catalase levels were significantly higher in Group 3 than in Group 2 (p<0.001 for both cases). The malondialdehyde level was significantly higher in Group 2 than in Group 3 (p<0.001). Traditionally, the Jamar dynamometer is the reference standard tool for grip-force strength evaluations with excellent validity and reliability in the clinic and research 2,3 , and many health professionals use it for measuring grip-force strength and recording a single maximal or submaximal grip-force strength value during testing 2,3 . Nevertheless, the Jamar dynamometer is a mechanical measurement tool and only shows instantaneous grip-force strength, which means that it cannot continuously record handgrip force or show changes in the quality of grip-force strength control. The Jamar dynamometer also needs recalibration each year 4 , and a study reported that its limited contact area may cause hand pain in subjects, thereby influencing the grip-force measurement when applying higher grip strength 5,6 . METHODS: This is an observational, cross-sectional study in which 214 participants answered an online questionnaire composed of 30 questions. For statistical analysis, the Stata® 16.0 software was used, and the mean and standard deviation were estimated to characterize continuous variables with a normal distribution and percentages for categorical variables. For group-to-group comparisons, a one-way ANOVA was used for normal continuous variables and Fisher's exact test for categorical variables. RESULTS: Almost 10% (9.3%) of women used condoms only, and double protection (condom+oral contraceptives) corresponds to 23.4%. Of the 214 participants, 38 reported making exclusive use of long-acting reversible contraception, and 13.6% of the interviewees used oral contraceptives exclusively. More than 88% of the interviewees believe that the medical course provided adequate education on contraception. Regarding lifestyle habits, 71.5% of the students reported alcohol intake, tobacco use, and/or other drug use. CONCLUSION: There was a great diversity of combinations between contraceptive methods used by the medical student at Federal University of Paraná, the most prevalent being the oral contraceptive associated with male condoms. There was a greater association in the use of long-acting reversible contraception in married students. Although 88.3% of the participants believed that they had a good education about contraception at university, only half of them use condoms in sexual relationships. The rate of adherence to alcohol and tobacco among students is considerable, and such practices can negatively affect a nutritional profile, a healthy lifestyle, and safe sexual practices. Brazilian medical schools are fundamental for the advancement of medical education in contraception and for the creation of public policies on family planning.","PeriodicalId":21234,"journal":{"name":"Revista da Associacao Medica Brasileira","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub/pmc/oa_pdf/de/ab/1806-9282-ramb-69-suppl1-e2023S119.PMC10413974.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"10349455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to investigate sexual dysfunction and its relationship with disease severity and depression in women with fibromyalgia.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>This study included 98 female patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia and 54 healthy women. The Female Sexual Function Index was used to assess sexual dysfunction. Fibromyalgia disease severity was measured with the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire. Hamilton Depression Scale was filled in to evaluate the depression status of the patients.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>According to the female sexual function index data, female sexual dysfunction was found in 78 (79.6%) patients with fibromyalgia and only in 12 (22.2%) controls. When the female sexual function index scores of fibromyalgia patients with and without depression were compared, patients with additional depression had lower female sexual function index scores, and this difference was statistically significant (p=0.002). In the correlation analysis, the female sexual function index score showed a significant negative correlation with the hamilton depression scale (rho=-0.235, p=0.020) and fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (rho=-0.215, p=0.033) scores.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>This study highlights the high prevalence of sexual dysfunction in female fibromyalgia patients and the significant correlation between sexual dysfunction and both disease severity and depression.</p>","PeriodicalId":21234,"journal":{"name":"Revista da Associacao Medica Brasileira","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub/pmc/oa_pdf/7b/ea/1806-9282-ramb-69-07-e20230180.PMC10352019.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"9841890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
