The transmission antenna was a dipole, the reception antenna was a dipole with a diode-loaded reflectarray, and the maximum power transmission efficiency $eta$ was calculated from the kQ product. As a result, it was clarified that the maximum efficiency $eta$ can be increased by switching the beam of the receiving antenna according to the arrangement of the dipole and the reflectarray.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122680390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To take advantage of this phenomenon as a new concept, a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) on the RCS measurements, taken within a small angular range of broadside, would yield a spectrum of incident wave distribution along that object; provided that the scattering is uniform per unit length, such as from a long cylinder [1, 2]. In this report, we examine the DFT spectra obtained from three horizontal long objects of different lengths (each of 60, 20, and 8 feet). Aside from the end effects, the DFT spectra looked similar and promising as an alternative to the conventional field probes by translating a sphere across a horizontal path.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131447213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The equivalent circuit of the BSF is analyzed, and its transmission and reflection characteristics are obtained. With appropriate definition of the realizable reflection function of the BSF and an optimization function, the circuit parameters of the BSF are solved by using an optimization algorithm. As a result, the designed BSF can realize a general Chebyshev frequency response with three transmission zeros in its stopband and six reflection zeros in its passband. As an example, a BSF with a fractional bandwidth of 30% and a minimum stopband rejection of 30.0 dB is designed, fabricated, and measured, and the desired wide stopband, large stopband rejection, low passband insertion loss, and sharp skirt property are verified.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134257777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The addressed problem is substantially complex in both mathematical and computational aspect, because of the fact that the objects to be reconstructed are both three-dimensional and embedded into half-space. Variation born iterative method (VBIM) is as successful as distorted born iterative method (DBIM) that is the most widely used method in the reconstruction of high-contrast objects among Born-based methods. Furthermore, VBIM is much faster than DBIM because it doesn’t require a forward problem solution for the calculation of background Green’s function in every iteration step, such as DBIM. Various numerical implementations have been performed to reveal the effectiveness of the method and it is observed that the method is very successful in the reconstruction of multiple objects with arbitrary geometry.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130286227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, determination of the dielectric properties for biological tissues is keystone to develop an innovative medical system. Widely, the dielectric properties of biological tissues have been determined by utilizing slim form open-ended probes. Although, the method is superior to other dielectric property measurement techniques in several aspects, the measurement procedure suffers from equipment-related and tissuerelated errors. Sensing depth, which is one of the confounders can be associated with both equipment and tissue-related errors. In this work, we performed the preparation of skin mimicking phantom and conducted a series of experiments on a two-layer configuration consisting of the prepared phantom and a liquid (olive oil). Furthermore, the sensing depth of the 2.2mm aperture open-ended coaxial probe was analyzed at five different frequencies. The results obtained show that the sensing depth of biological tissues strongly depends on the operation frequency. We also observed that the sensing depth decreases at higher frequencies and this is a property can be utilized in tackling thin multi-layered structures problem such as skin cancer detection.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126608014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present contribution, an overview of current models describing the complex permittivity behaviour of biological media, with a specific focus on blood plasma and thus on diabetes pathology, is presented. In particular, specific drawbacks are highlighted which inherently limit the reliability of the wearable sensors design. Furthermore, an improved dielectric model, properly considering the variation of both dielectric constant as well as tangent loss factor relative to blood plasma is presented and discussed, by demonstrating the strong enhancement in the prediction of blood glucose concentration as compared to other existing approaches. Numerical as well as experimental results are also discussed to prove the validity of the proposed enhanced model for the accurate modeling of wearable sensors to be adopted for a non-invasive continuous monitoring of blood glucose in the treatment of diabetes pathology.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128312454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Usually, GPR data recorded in underground utility surveys are analysed and interpreted by using manual approaches, which can be a laborious, repetitive, and time-consuming task; there is a strong interest in the GPR scientific community for innovative procedures allowing semi-automated or automated detection and localization of targets from raw or processed GPR data. The free software ‘SPOT-GPR’ was recently developed by Members of COST Action TU1208; this tool can semi-automatically find and localize targets in radargrams. SPOT-GPR applies the matched-filter technique to the radargram under test, partitions it in sub-profiles, and, for each sub-profile, estimates the main direction of arrival of the electromagnetic field scattered by the targets. Next, the software triangulates all the estimated angles and obtains a pattern of intersections condensed around target locations; a statistical method is employed to remove the noisy background of unwanted crossings. Finally, the number of targets and their positions are estimated from the remaining crossings. In this paper, SPOT-GPR is tested with real data taken from the Open Database of Radargrams of COST Action TU1208. Since all data included in such database are available for the scientific community, this case study enables a comparison of SPOT-GPR’s method with other algorithms that are being or will be tested on the same data by other authors.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116072820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
