The simulation model with this specific geometry proved valid for calculating the probe perceived permittivity at 2 GHz, triggering a follow-up study on the impact of the probe size on its permittivity sensing depth. In this study, the probe dimensions were upscaled up to five times, while keeping the same relative geometry to maintain the 50 Ω coaxial line impedance. The permittivity sensing depth was again analyzed on both the non-biological water-Teflon model, and biological layered tissue model. The results clearly showed the increased permittivity sensing depth of the larger probes with respect to the smaller ones, at 2 GHz. Nevertheless, the surface layer of the analyzed non-homogeneous samples was the dominant one for all probe sizes.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117124875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particularly, there is no simple and physically sound method of analysis/synthesis of appropriate dispersion characteristic. Here, a novel approach that uses a complex trajectory for analysis of various complex dispersion parameters, is proposed. This method is demonstrated on causal active medium model that could support superluminal group velocity propagation with low dispersion and nearly zero losses. Presented approach could be applied to various narrowband or broadband causal active and passive structures.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130553215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increasing effort of interoperability testing for different NFC ecosystems, caused by the steep marked ramp up of the NFC technology, raised the need of modeling and characterization of such communication systems. We develop a configurable test device to model different NFC transponder properties regarding the return link behavior and integrate it into an automated measurement system. We perform measurements on real world products and show how the results can be used to decrease the effort for interoperability testing and reduce the overall development time for new NFC-enabled devices.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132595425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A radar target simulator can help testing radar systems repeatably. In this paper, the authors present a concept of low-cost hardware for radar target simulation. Current multistatic setups involve complex and heavy signal processing techniques, such as to remove the energy coupling between adjacent sensors, which masks the response from inner tissues. We investigate a novel approach using a dielectric lens in order to reduce the coupling effects between antennas, thus reducing the signal processing burden, while preserving all the advantages of multistatic setups. In this paper, we show that we can successfully detect simulated breast targets on reconstructed images using a setup with a dielectric lens.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114965791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent studies showed that factors changing after the excision of tissue such as temperature, heterogeneity, hydration can significantly alter the dielectric properties. However, due to the challenging nature of performing dielectric properties on living tissues, the underlying factors of dielectric property discrepancy between diseased and healthy tissues remains an open question. As building blocks of tissues, cells can serve as an alternative sample to living tissue to explore the fundamental dielectric property discrepancy between normal and diseased tissues. With this motivation, we are reporting two different concentrations of Osteosarcoma Cell Line (SAOS-2) suspended in Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) dielectric property measurements. Dielectric property measurements are performed with the open-ended coaxial probe technique between 500 MHz to 18 GHz. A very small decrease (0.5 units) is observed between the relative permittivity of pure DMEM and cell suspension. Similarly, the difference between dielectric properties of 12,500,000 SAOS-2 cell suspensions and 22,500,000 SAOS-2 cell suspensions is found to be small and inconsistent at frequencies between 500 MHz to 18 GHz.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128966639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this aim, a nonlinear dispersive multiphysic numerical algorithm solving Maxwell equations in conjunction with the differential equations modelling both pore density and size dynamics has been implemented. Moreover, the developed numerical algorithm takes into account the dielectric relaxation of the membrane based on the second order Debye equation as well as it models the irregular plasma membrane geometry by employing the Gielis superformula. Furthermore, the spatial and temporal evolution of the pore size has been considered in the numerical computation. Using the implemented algorithm, a numerical investigation has been carried out in order to compare the realistic model considering the thin thickness of the plasma membrane with the simplified model in which the plasma membrane is modeled as a distributed impedance boundary condition. The obtained results show differences between the two models, highlighting the need to consider in the numerical analysis the real thickness of the plasma membrane in order to correctly analyze the electroporation process. This remark becomes of greater importance especially when nanosecond pulsed electric fields are used.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131247063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If they can confirm their own positions, their activities will become much safer. In this study, assuming we specify the positions of the divers rescuing in the accidents and support their works, we investigate undersea positioning technology using the electromagnetic waves with low frequencies less than midrange waves. In some preceding studies, an ultra-long wave of 10 kHz theoretically attenuates 3.5 dB per meter [1]. In addition, the simulation of the position estimation in the vertical section of the sea has already reported. In this report, we indicated the superiority of using Receiving Signal Strength: RSS to the phase difference between a transmitted signal and the received one. We also showed the result of the position estimation of the transmitting antenna at depth from 2 m to 8 m.","PeriodicalId":211244,"journal":{"name":"2019 23rd International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications (ICECOM)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116683414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
