Millions of people experience depression every day, and are able to work through it and then move on with their lives. Depression can be devastating to all areas of a person's everyday life. It is not just a personal agony; its effects touch every segment of society and our economy if not recognised and treated. If left untreated, symptoms can last for weeks, months or even years, causing needless pain and suffering, not only to the person who is depressed but also to those who care about them. However, for many individuals, especially for women, depression can be a debilitating disease that keeps them from enjoying life, carries many serious symptoms and even puts them at risk for suicide. When a woman has a depressive disorder, it interferes with her daily life and normal functioning, and causes pain for both the woman with the disorder and those who care about her. Depression is a common but serious illness, and most who have it need treatment to get better.","PeriodicalId":210568,"journal":{"name":"Quest-The Journal of UGC-ASC Nainital","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126117828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But a different picture of the town is depicted once one visit and stays there for some time. The researcher got interested in knowing the town from the view point of the selected service providers of the town (the ones chosen here are the hoteliers because they are the ones who contribute maximum to the economy of the town). Some interesting facts are depicted through this small research work, and the researcher has also simultaneously attempted to give certain suggestions to the local bodies which if implemented could be of great help to one and all.","PeriodicalId":210568,"journal":{"name":"Quest-The Journal of UGC-ASC Nainital","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131338554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper explains the definition and impact of disasters, and deals with the community-based disaster management planning (CBDMP), components, challenges and finally explains it through a case study of Main Central Thrust (MCT) Uttarakhand. The MCT zone of Uttarakhand is highly prone to disasters. Almost every year, this region faces landslides, earthquake, forest fires, cloud bursts, etc. The study is based on the ground truth and observations made in the entire MCT zone of Uttarakhand. Authors collected the primary data with the help of PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) tools, and for data analysis the authors used different statistical techniques and software like GPS, ILWIS 3.7, STATISTICA 8, etc. Findings have shown that hazards turns into disasters only if we are not prepared to face such events. An excellent administrative set up, good planners and admirable community participation can mitigate the effects of hazards.","PeriodicalId":210568,"journal":{"name":"Quest-The Journal of UGC-ASC Nainital","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115069712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The market demand patterns are derived from the supply of goods and services. In this regard, the future supply of goods and services would depend, most probably on the future consumption patterns. It is not necessary to restrain consumption in order to release resources for investment; rather it is essential that the level of consumption remains on a higher side in order to produce a higher level equilibrium growth rate for the economy. This study examines the existence of variations in average consumption level between the groups of items and of inter-state variations in consumption patterns for urban sector of India. Variations in average monthly per capita consumption expenditure (MPCE) have been obtained by segregating the population into various groups. The state wise analysis of urban MPCE has been undertaken for 23 major states of India and the estimates of average MPCE are expressed as percentage of the corresponding average for general population. Variation index provides the evidence of asymmetry in consumption level of various items between states. On the basis of the variation index, the states are arranged in their ascending order for each group.","PeriodicalId":210568,"journal":{"name":"Quest-The Journal of UGC-ASC Nainital","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116367730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
