Officially named the B.1.1.529 variant, it has been designated Omicron as part of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Greek naming system, and has put health officials and researchers around the world on high alert as they make sense of its potential implications for the ongoing global pandemic. In addition to South Africa, the new variant has been detected in at least 15 countries in Africa, Europe, and North America, according to CNN, prompting myriad restrictions on international travel. The variant is likely already present in additional countries, including the United States, The Wall Street Journal reports . (1) Figure (1) Omicron variant in South Africa (Deutsche Bank Research Johns Hopkins University ةيعارزلا مولعلل ةيبرعلا ةللمجا ( جم 5 ) – ( ع 13 رياني ) 2022 45 3 How contagious is Omicron? The Deutsche Bank report says the South African Covid19 variant could be more contagious than other variants. The reason for the widespread concern is the incredibly high number of mutations, with 32 on the spike protein specifically, which is the part of the virus that allows it to enter human cells. \"That's much more than we've seen for previous variants, and raises the prospect it could be a more transmissible version of the virus, although scientists are still assessing this,\" the report adds. Though the WHO experts are still studying this new virus it's in the early stages, experts think there are some worrying signs. The WHO has said initial signs show the Omicron could cause \"reinfection\". Also, this variant has a lot more mutations than other variants had, particularly on the spike protein. \"This could make this variant more infectious, and there is also the possibility that vaccines are less effective against it too,\" says the Deutsche Bank report. Is Omicron a deadly variant? [2] Experts are still finding out how deadly this virus is but the Deutsche Bank report says even if it does prove to be \"less deadly\", this could still be outweighed by a rise in \"transmissibility\", resulting in more overall hospitalizations and deaths. \"Take an example where 100 people have a virus and it sends 10% into hospital. That means 10 end up in hospital. Then let's say the virus mutates, and it then only has an 8 per cent chance of sending you to hospital but is 40 per cent more infectious. Then 140 people have the virus, but 11 end up in the hospital, which was actually more than under the previous strain, even though the hospitalization rate for each case is actually lower,\" the report adds. also says that \"higher transmissibility\" and a \"lower fatality\" rate doesn't necessarily lead to fewer Prof. Ashraf Abbas Omicron Covid19 (B.1.1.529)","PeriodicalId":209738,"journal":{"name":"المجلة العربیة للعلوم الزراعیة","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127796504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Duhok University -Iraq during spring season of 2020 to investigate the effect of electric current severity and shock timing of cuttings on the vegetative and rooting characters of two olive (Olea europea) cultivars. Three levels of electric current severity AC 2, 4, 8, Ampere and three timing of electric shock 1, 2, 4 minutes were tested on cuttings of two olive cultivars (Dogel and Basheqi). A special electric apparatus was designed for this purpose. The cuttings were soaked before treatment for 3hrs in a 1% NaCl solution, and then soaked in fresh water for the same period 3hrs before planting. The experiment was applied using randomized complete block design (RCBD) of three replications and the means comprised by Duncan's Multiple Ranges Test under 5%. Cuttings of Basheqi cv. which were exposed to medium current for a high period (T16) 4 A × 4 mins significantly increased rooting percentage 73.33%, roots number per cutting 36.25, fresh weight of roots 1.77 g, dry weight of roots 0.66 g, shoots number per cutting 4.25, leaves number 46.00, fresh weight of vegetative growth was 2.44 g and dry weight of vegetative growth was 1.15 g. The sample was involved 109 countries. According to the Human Development Report (2019), 58 of these countries are considering as LDC’s, while others 51 are considering as MDC’s. Means, standard deviation, T test, and Spearman correlation coefficients used as statistical techniques. Results of T test indicate a different statistically significant between LDC’s and MDC’s for the all dependent and independent variables, except the total population variable. The results of Spearman's correlation coefficients showed that the highest index of crop production is likely to occur among LDC’s that have a high population growth rate and more dependency ratio, while it occurs among MDC’s with the highest percentage of the population age composition (0-14). Furthermore, the results suggest that the highest food production index are more likely to occur among MDC’s that have the more growth rate of population, more growth rates of urban population, highest rate of net migration, lowest dependency ratio, highest percent of population age composition (0-14 and 15-64), and lowest percent of population age composition (65+), while it occurs among LDC’s with the high population growth rate. The textile wastewater coloring pigments may have an esthetic appearance and affect plant photosynthesis. There are several disadvantages to chemical or physical methods that a biological process that saves costs and is environmentally friendly can solve. Absorbents such as bacteria, fungi, cell membranes can be biological methods. Yeast may be less expensive and better than other microorganisms. This research attempted to investigate the decolorization of blue coloring in methylene blue by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The study was carried out to find the optimum conditions in which the maximum decolorization occurred. The highest decolorization was monitored at 30 o C and a concentration of 100 ppm (0,01g/100ml), during which a maximum decolorization of 95,95% occurred after the 20 h incubation period. In the next assay at concentrations of 100 ppm (0.01g/100 ml) and pH 7 for 20 h, a cumulative decolorization of 98.90% has been obtained at dosages of 0.1 gram/l with 30 o C, which is considered as the best conditions. Saccharomyces cerevisiae was able to handle the textile wastewater in optimal conditions.","PeriodicalId":209738,"journal":{"name":"المجلة العربیة للعلوم الزراعیة","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127069799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
