Il part de la theorisation de Pierre Bourdieu entendant rompre avec le relativisme et le principe d’autonomie des cultures pour mettre l’accent sur les rapports entre classes sociales et la domination des couches superieures. Toutefois, il est montre en quoi l’application du modele se revele assez delicate au Japon, la question se posant de savoir dans quelle mesure ce sont surtout des codes “traditionnels” ou des pratiques importees (a commencer par les concerts de musique classique occidentale) qui structurent la distinction. S’appuyant sur des enquetes menees en 1995 et en 2015 autour de la stratification, la mobilite sociale et la conscience de classe, ce travail conclut qu’il y a bien des codes dominants mais que ceux-ci sont relativement contradictoires, rendant complexe la mise en œuvre d’une analyse en termes de “culture legitime”. Seules des recherches tres approfondies pourraient permettre d’eclairer sa composition.","PeriodicalId":20948,"journal":{"name":"Random Structures and Algorithms","volume":"34 1","pages":"87-103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75240651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Les criteres definissant le “bon” candidat ne dependront plus exclusivement de la culture legitime associee a un espace de vie (cf. La Distinction de Bourdieu), la conjonction des capitaux familiaux et scolaires n’est plus pertinente. L’enquete realisee aupres de membres d’origine “populaire” et plus jeunes montre que le capital professionnel devient un facteur important et influence le capital culturel. L’arrivee de nouveaux membres va ainsi elargir le spectre social du club. La separation entre culture populaire et legitime s’estompe dans les nouveaux clubs, alors qu’elle est encore effective pour les membres les plus âges et au sein des clubs les plus anciens. La distinction se jauge desormais a l’engagement et a l’investissement personnel (Bennett, 2013 ; Glevarec, 2013) qui favorisent un rapprochement des espaces de vies et consacrent l’obsolescence d’une stratification verticale et dominante de la structuration des pratiques culturelles.","PeriodicalId":20948,"journal":{"name":"Random Structures and Algorithms","volume":"67 1","pages":"105-125"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88270563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on in-depth interviews with 50 affluent New York parents, this paper focuses on how they manage the peculiar concept of “entitlement”. In U.S. political culture, this concept links individuals’ dispositions and behaviors to whether they deserve resources, as studies of welfare recipients have established. I argue that a similar analysis is needed for elites. These privileged actors want to interpret themselves as legitimately deserving of (i.e., entitled to) their social advantages, which means not being “entitled” in a behavioral and dispositional sense. They cast legitimate entitlement as depending upon moral worth in three areas: hard work, reasonable consumption, and “giving back”. They also feel a strong obligation to raise children who share these values. In invoking these criteria of worth, affluent respondents primarily attach themselves to the symbolically-worthy American middle class. The paper concludes with a discussion of how this relationship between dispositions and distributions justifies inequality.","PeriodicalId":20948,"journal":{"name":"Random Structures and Algorithms","volume":"55 1","pages":"61-86"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74549096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Understood by counter colonial theories, his narratives are dotted with poetical allusion which is quite usual on Yanomami’s culture, to mention a few: Xawara’s epidemic, the Hutakara forest and the catastrophic prediction of the falling sky that will trigger the end of the world. Finally, this piece discusses the colonial permanence on Brazilian’s thinking through some narratives that form the official history of Brazil and expand the range of discussion about mineral resources exploitation and pollution.","PeriodicalId":20948,"journal":{"name":"Random Structures and Algorithms","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84341155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
