Traditional techniques to ensure reliability are often useless, for example due to providers which don't want to disclose their internal topologies to outsiders. In this paper we discuss some approaches to counter these problems, allowing successive improvements by relaxing constraints and permitting additional sharing, thus reducing significantly the total number of optical links needed. We highlight the best possible solution, and introduce our new ILP-formulation to optimize the routing of demands. We finish by comparing the new results with values from our previous papers","PeriodicalId":208725,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121235586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These sources can be highly efficient because the high semiconductor refractive index collects a large fraction of the spontaneous emission into the waveguide mode. We have modelled emission from circular, square, elliptical and rectangular pillars using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method and see enhanced emission into the cavity mode and improved efficiency for coupling light out of the microcavity. The cavity Q-factors can be very high even when the pillar diameter (dimension) is comparable to the emission wavelength. In the elliptical and rectangular cavities the modes separate (in frequency) into a high-Q resonance with polarisation parallel to the long axis and a lower Q-factor resonance with polarisation orthogonal to the long axis. We compare our modelling with preliminary measurements made on micro-pillar microcavity samples containing a layer of low density InAs dots at the cavity centre","PeriodicalId":208725,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126687873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two different designs are proposed: the first design consists in directly accessing the cavity with the waveguides. The second design is based on optimization with an evolutionary algorithm that randomly reshapes the gratings along the waveguides.
