The dataset used for this purpose is taken from the UCI machine learning database. Both supervised and unsupervised neural network models have been analyzed with different architectures, learning and activation functions. It is concluded that the supervised model performed better than the unsupervised one. The paper also compares the results of the previous studies on the diagnosis of hepatitis which use the same dataset.","PeriodicalId":207616,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 14th International Multitopic Conference","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123226952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Personalized tag recommendation utilizes a user's tagging behavior from her tagging history for predictions. Whereas non-personalized recommendation systems recommend what is popular and relevant to the user. In this study, we have analyzed the role of personal tagging history in recommending tags. The experiments are done on three folksonomy datasets: Delicious, Flickr and Bibsonomy. Important results for three popular tag recommendation algorithms: PITF, FolkRank and Adapted PageRank are reported in terms of prediction quality. It is found that users' history usage preferences change across all data sets; hence overall prediction quality of personalized recommendation system may suffer. We discover a generic life cycle of folksonomy users on the basis of their history usage. We propose this life cycle can be used to improve an overall prediction performance of a recommendation system across all folksonomies.","PeriodicalId":207616,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 14th International Multitopic Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123866871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Bangladesh, presently total electrical demand is about 6000 MW with total generation of about 4500 MW. About 1500 MW or 25% of total demand is unserved with current generation. To get rid of this acute power crisis, people here are using IPSs. IPSs are not generating any power by themselves but consuming a huge power form the national grid when the power is available and when the grid power cuts of, it supply a very little amount of the consumed power to the users. It is a comprehensible loss to Bangladesh Power System (BPS). Total installed capacity of IPS units is about 150 MW in the residential sector of Bangladesh. Through economic analysis, it is observed that around $2,144,587,386 can be saved in residential sector of Bangladesh over the period of next 25 years by replacing the IPSs with solar PV system.","PeriodicalId":207616,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 14th International Multitopic Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129362763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically we have considered the scenario of downlink synchronous DS-CDMA transmitter along with Rayleigh fading and the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment. The proposed receiver consists of a matched filter which is matched to the signature waveform of the desired user followed by a nonlinear estimation device. This non-linear device results from the MMSE estimate of the attenuated transmitted signal. Simulations were carried out to corroborate the theoretical findings for different values of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and number of users.","PeriodicalId":207616,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 14th International Multitopic Conference","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130547894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Map is the tool which is used commonly for navigating and recognizing the roads. Due to sprawl of population, changes happen within or in suburbs of cities. We have to redesign the map(s) for such situation and manually updating the map is very complex and time consuming task. For automatic map generation from satellite images it's essential to extract the roads first We propose a new method Multiple Simple Color Space Components (MCSC) to detect the road region(s) from satellite images. In our research we experimented with multiple color space components to extract the roads of Mirpur city by using satellite images (SI) from Google Earth. We used selective components of various color space models namely YCbCr, HSV and L*a*b*. To obtain the road region(s) from satellite images different steps were followed i.e. feature extraction, segmentation and grouping. For extracting feature, we used following color components (i.e. Luminance (Y), Saturation (S), Hue (H) and chromaticity layers ‘a*’ and ‘b*’) on different satellite images. Segmentation was done by Thresholding and multiplication of the S, H, a* and b* images with each other to eliminate the non road regions. Result of this process (H-S and a*-b* images) are combined with the luminance (Y) to detect the road region. The proposed MCSC processing method can detect roads easily and generate results quickly within a second. It's a very simple, fast and fully automatic algorithm to detect the road(s) region(s). Furthermore, the proposed system also gives good results in complex environments/backgrounds.","PeriodicalId":207616,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 14th International Multitopic Conference","volume":"580-583 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127688711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various sources of information have been used for extracting and modeling parameters that portray users' interests. Social media has become one of the most popular and significant platform for information sharing and dissemination. These social platforms provide users not only a medium to share the content of their interest but also provide an insight of their day to day activities. Mining this content to define user interests can be used for the customization and personalization of a variety of commercial and non-commercial applications like product marketing and recommendation. In this paper, we propose a user interest's model using a popular social community called twitter. Proposed user model represents interests in the form of ontological concepts interlinked with predefined source ontology by using concepts from Wikipedia and Wordnet.","PeriodicalId":207616,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 14th International Multitopic Conference","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124387948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The other is to use a Distributed Genetic algorithm with MPI functions running on each peer node for solving a variety of optimization problems. Genetic Algorithms are found useful in variety of problems, such as in searching and optimization. Distributed Genetic Algorithms are inherently embarrassingly parallel which leads to efficient implementation on the nodes. In this work DGA is used first to distribute resources on nodes to maximize availability within budget and second to find in-best network routes within links cost and end-to-end delay. The basic access mechanism used by the standard is the Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA). It has been noted that there is a problem of low throughput for short superframe duration due to the collision of the packets at the start of the superframe. Hence in 2006, the standard was revised and the CSMA/CA algorithm was modified such that deferred transmission was assigned another delay of random backoff periods before accessing the medium. In this paper, the effects of deferments on the performance of CSMA/CA have been analyzed, which has not been investigated in the past. An accurate analytical model for the deferred transmission in the CSMA/CA algorithm of IEEE 802.15.4/ 2006 using Markov chain has been developed. It has been found that the deferment of packets to a new superframe significantly affects the throughput for short frame duration.","PeriodicalId":207616,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 14th International Multitopic Conference","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133530876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
