The paper observes that a majority of Nigerians now pay excessively for darkness as they experience power outage for an average of 20 hours daily, while their estimated billing has continued to increase astronomically, unabated. This has impacted negatively on the socio-economic development of the country and is currently inciting conflicts between the electricity distribution companies and aggrieved consumers across the country. In view of the above, the paper identified some factors responsible for this ugly development and highlights some of its effects on Nigeria's economy. Data for the study was obtained through oral interviews with electricity consumers (especially in Ekiti, Osun and Oyo states) and officials of Ibadan and Benin Electricity Distribution Companies; personal observations; group discussion method; and a rigorous library search of related literature. The study employed the descriptive and analytical qualitative methods of historical research to analyse its data. It recommends that electricity supply should be given necessary attention by the government to enable the country harness her rich human and material resources.","PeriodicalId":207583,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Contemporary Research in Social Sciences","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134354136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the construction sector, green products innovations emphasize upon waste reduction or material recycling, energy conservation and control of pollution. Despite international certifications and LEED ratings, there are still barriers that retard the growth of green product innovation projects. This study investigated green product innovation through a multiple case study analysis of several building projects in three construction firms in the industrial towns of Jubail and Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. The study was carried out around three variables, viz. energy conservation, materials reduction, and pollution control in the project life cycle. In-depth interviews and a study of documentation revealed such dimensions of green product innovation that are essential for a construction company to adhere to. The study also found out barriers that need to be addressed to in order to achieve green Saudi Arabia. Finally, the study suggested developing skills of company personnel and reviewing of the regulations in order to motivate companies to involve themselves more in green projects.","PeriodicalId":207583,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Contemporary Research in Social Sciences","volume":"425 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114016310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It will extend the acceptability of the brand orientation scale in comparison to its application in retail industry only. Design/Methodology/Approach – Both brand management and IMC related literature was thoroughly reviewed to conceptually develop the links between the individual brand related capabilities and IMC process for empirical investigation. Findings – The results of the study established significantly positive relationship between the brands related capabilities and IMC process except for the functional capability. The main contribution is conceptual theorization of distinct, value adding, symbolic and functional capabilities with the IMC process and obtaining statistically significant results for the hypothesized relationships. Originality – This study takes the position of individual capabilities in contrast to studies on aggregate effect of brand orientation on the IMC process in the context of consumer companies operating in Pakistan.","PeriodicalId":207583,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Contemporary Research in Social Sciences","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115752660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a very important aspect of every democratic process. The 2015 general election in Nigeria was very unique. It proved wrong all predictions of recording high rate of violence and lack of free and fairness. The electoral outcome defiled all these predictions and created a new landmark that has never been recorded in the history of elections in Nigeria. For the first time, there was high rate of youth involvement and political participation and the incumbent president was defeated despite huge propaganda and scandals that trailed the opposition. An uptight and laid back analogue opposition presidential candidate defeated a more vibrant and very amiable incumbent in an election adjudged to be free and fair. This paper seeks to investigate what actually happened and what informed the drastic change of attitude of young people in the electoral process. Descriptive and documentary methods were used in data collection and analysis. The findings show that new media technology is a very potent tool of mass communication and mass mobilization which cannot be overlooked in ensuring that citizens participate effectively and efficiently in the democratic process. The paper recommends the effective use of new media technology by politicians and political parties as a tool to enhance political mobilization for electoral victories.","PeriodicalId":207583,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Contemporary Research in Social Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114750185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
