Among them, remote driving has attracted much interest from both academia and the industry, either as a stepping stone on the road to fully autonomous driving or as its complement constituting a fallback/backup service. This paper presents the design, development, and evaluation of a teleoperated support (TeSo) service over 5G mobile communications, realized within the framework of the “5G HEalth, AquacultuRe and Transport (5G-HEART)” EU project. We present an end-to-end service architecture and a complete implementation, accompanied by validation trials and performance measurements in a real pilot over a commercial 5G network deployment with an actual vehicle that has been extended to support a variety of experimentation options. With this work, we demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed TeSo service, and we quantify various performance metrics of interest, such as latency, jitter, throughput, and loss rate for longer-term reference use.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124847521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The stringent latency requirement in URLLC requires the usage of finite block length information theory. Previously proposed resource allocation schemes for V2V communication rely on Shannon rate and do not incorporate spectrum allocation into the blocklength and power optimization while relying solely on slow-varying large-scale channel statistics. This paper investigates the combined spectrum, blocklength, and power allocation to minimize the worst-case decoding-error probability in the finite blocklength (FBL) regime for a URLLC-based V2V communication scenario. We first formulate the problem as a non-convex mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem (MINLP). To solve this challenging problem, we decompose the original problem into two interrelated subproblems. First, the spectrum allocation is performed by clustering vehicles into distinct zones. Second, an iterative block coordinate descent (BCD) based algorithm is developed for the blocklength and transmit power optimization. Via extensive simulations, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the benchmark scheme based on a path-following iterative strategy and yields substantially higher network reliability for different network parameters.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127941254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assessing and supervising older adults' services and facilities are essential to improving well-being. These assessments form the basis for creating an age-friendly urban environment based on the IoT,s smart integration. Our research focuses on developing a frame for services selection that needs to be optimized by finding a pattern to identify User Preferences (UPs). The deployment of Markov's chain is followed by the Quality of Service (QoS) for the available services in an urban ecosystem. We then utilized the Best Worst Method (BWM), a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method, to rank the urban locations. We also prove that the proposed method outperforms the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The proposed methodology provides a prioritized list of the age-friendly places in an EU city based on the provision of the services considering the UPs. Validation has been performed through a case study using accurate QoS performance data by using the Place Standard tool.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126442059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes two scalable lattice-based vector quantization schemes for the fronthaul compression of the fully centralized cell-free massive MIMO network. Both schemes require only the statistical information of the channel and achieve close-to-perfect fronthaul performance with few-bit lattice quantizers under different channel models. With the correlated Rayleigh channel model, adjusting the shape of the codebook according to the eigenvalue distribution of the channel correlation matrix at each access point (AP) improves the achievable spectral efficiency (SE) compared to simply applying the near-circular lattice codebook. Maximum ratio (MR) and minimum mean-square error (MMSE) combining schemes are utilized to evaluate the performance of the proposed quantization methods.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126659614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even more so, at a very low latency. 5G, mainly StandAlone (SA) but also Non-SA (NSA) architectures, both Non-Public-Network (NPN) and commercial public network, was hailed as the solution enabling TV and media newsgathering, sports coverage and similar live events with a simple single off-the-shelf 5G modem. Results of this paper, which are based on real testbeds, shed light on potential weaknesses in the effort of delivering a reliable professional live UL video transmission in field production utilizing a single 5G modem. On the other hand, the tested bonding technique that uses multiple 5G modems for UL video transmission, enhances the 5G Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) rather than exhausting each of them. Bonding technique is a key enabler for live news and live sports productions, resulting not only in increased UL rate, but also in stability and reliability as shown in this work. Several additional insights are touched upon in this work, about the benefit in Time Division Duplexing (TDD) UL pattern, 5G SA UL when bonded with its 4G network and more.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115968730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, we develop a secure wireless mesh networking framework and apply the RSS-based PLA scheme, with the aim to perform continuous authentication. The mesh setup comprises three Raspberry-PI4 computing nodes (acting as Alice, Bob, and Eve) and a server. The server role is to perform the initial authentication when a new node joins the mesh network. After that, the legitimate nodes in the mesh network perform continuous authentication, by leveraging the RSS feature of wireless signals. In particular, Bob tries to authenticate Alice in the presence of Eve. The performance of the presented framework is quantified through extensive experimental results in an outdoor environment, where various nodes' positions, relative distances, and pedestrian speeds scenarios are considered. The obtained results demonstrate the robustness of the underlying model, where an authentication rate of 99% for the static case can be achieved. Meanwhile, at the pedestrian speed, the authentication rate can drop to 85%. On the other hand, the detection rate improves when the distance between the legitimate and wiretap links is large (exceeds 20 meters) or when Alice and Eve are moving in different mobility patterns.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126793602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the fact that FL clients frequently have restricted transmission capacity, communication among clients and servers needs to be reduced to enhance presentation. FL clients frequently employ Wi-Fi and must interact in Unstable Network Environments (UNE). Existing FL aggregation techniques send and receive a huge number of weights, which dramatically reduces the accuracy of the UNE. In this paper, we propose a Federated Sine Cosine Algorithm (FedSCA) to reduce data communication by transferring score principles rather than all client models' weights and utilizing the Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA) mechanism as a weight updating technique to improve the clients' models. This paper reveals that using FedSCA significantly decreases the quantity of data utilized in network communication and increases the global model's accuracy by an average of 9.87% over FedAvg and 2.29% over Federated Particle Swarm Optimization (FedPSO). Moreover, in studies conducted on an unstable network, it demonstrated a 4.3% improvement in comparison to accuracy loss in existing algorithms.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"28 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125546639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, unlicensed spectrum sharing has evolved as a critical use case for IoT-NR networks. However, IoT-NR devices come with diverse features and their coexistence in the unlicensed spectrum can degrade the performance of its primary networks. Therefore, an efficient coexistence mechanism based on the idea of adaptive initial sensing duration (ISD) is proposed to enhance the IoT-NR network performance while keeping the primary Wi-Fi network's performance to a bearable threshold. A Q-learning (QL) based algorithm is devised to maximize the normalized sum throughput of the coexistence Wi-Fi/IoT-NR network. The results confirm a maximum throughput gain of 51 % and also ensure that the Wi-Fi network's performance remains intact.","PeriodicalId":206258,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114559099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
