Standards facilitate the description, packaging, sequencing and delivery of educational content, learning activities and learner information, to enable their sharing and reuse, and their compatibility with future technologies. As such, standards are arguably the key critical success factor for enabling technologies in elearning. Development of these standards is an iterative process, requiring testing and feedback from implementers and end users. For the first phase, we proposed a method of packaging of multimedia online quiz, and developed the online quiz system. Also, an experiment was conducted under a high speed network environment. Thirty-four undergraduate students enrolled in an introductory educational psychology course were the participants in this study. An instrument that was developed by one of the authors of the study was used to measure cognitive load in a text-based chat room. Students were asked to read a scenario that was taken from a textbook used in another class taught by an author of this study. After reading the stimulus material, students discussed the topic. A few questions, also taken from the textbook, were typed in the chat room by an author of the study, to initiate and facilitate discussion of the topic. Findings of the study suggest that students did experience measurable cognitive load during the discussion session. The case-based approach is one of the most promising technologies for automated evaluation. The key issue in implementing automated evaluation systems by the case-based approach is how one can acquire many evaluation cases and construct rich case-bases. This paper presents a solution to the issue, that is, a framework for sharing evaluation case-bases among instructors. Sharing case-bases promotes enrichment of the case-bases, because case-based evaluation systems obtain new cases through evaluation work, which is the collaboration between human instructors and computer systems. It focuses on analysis of the discussion groups. The project aimed to develop an online course for practitioners and included the development of 4 modules. Delivery was achieved using hybrid technology via distribution of course materials on CD ROMs accompanied by an online learning environment and associated discussion boards. The conclusion was that the project had met its stated aims. The characteristic functions of this software include the following: (1) playback: the software automatically saves the concept mapping process, and the learner can playback it at any time, even in the middle of the process; (2) improvement: the learner can return to any desired point in the concept mapping process by undoing it up to that point and improve the concept map; and (3) collaborative concept mapping: the learner can make a concept map in collaboration with others sharing the same screen on several computers linked to the same network. Twenty-four elementary school teachers were asked to evaluation this software in the questionnaire in terms of the usability of the software, convenience of the user interface, feasibility of collaborative concept mapping and playback of the collaborative concept mapping process, effectiveness of the functions, usability in lessons. Academic support from the lecturer was provided, in total, by means of email lists to which all class members were expected to subscribe. It was found that a single class email list was insufficient to cater for the needs of advanced students. This two-year study of the course email list usage demonstrates the benefit of providing advanced online students with an advanced topic discussion forum so that the general class email forum can be freed up for core business. Within the Faculty of Education at Queensland University of Technology, several mini-cases relating to micro-innovations in the design of video in online teaching were examined for the purpose of understanding these challenges. The investigation is significant in that it takes a broader view of the learning communities involved in design to include academic peers, technical support staff and facility managers.
