The recent graph-based signal processing has been attracting an increasing amount of interest. In this paper, we investigate how to effectively explore the intercorrelation of a set of images as well as the spatial correlation of human motion capture data using graph-based transform (GT). Specifically, the graph structure (or matrix is first estimated by an optimization algorithm, and then the data is projected onto an orthogonal matrix consisting of eigenvectors of the estimated graph matrix, leading to sparse coefficients. Experimental results demonstrate that the GT-based method can decorrelate much better than DCT at an almost negligible price of overhead for the extremely sparse graph matrix.","PeriodicalId":206199,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132314297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is based on content analysis and high order statistic features. Firstly, the image is divided into texture region and smooth region according to its content. Then, the difference arrays of the texture regions are calculated in order to enhance double JPEG compression artifacts. For better modeling the difference arrays, we improve the traditional first-order Markov transition probability algorithm and use second-order and third-order Markov transition probability matrices. In addition, a thresholding technique is used to reduce the size of the transition probability matrices. By using this method, we obtain a high order feature of each JPEG image for detection. And these features are fed into classifiers. Experiments have shown that our proposed method is effective.","PeriodicalId":206199,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134192824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is similar to the principle of sympathovagal balance in humans representing the leverages between two interactive nervous systems: the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). Based on the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH), we conjecture that there could exist two major groups of people who invest in financial markets: 1. Those who drive financial prices to a state of abnormality, and 2. Those who try to sustain the financial prices. To support this conjecture, we introduce the financial systemic balance index (FSBI) which is used to quantify the evolution of financial stress levels in the market. Results show that periods of higher stress detected by the proposed FSBI index correspond to those with higher levels of determinism and nonlinearity, evaluated via the Delay Vector Variance (DVV) method.","PeriodicalId":206199,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130686444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a new algorithm is discussed where the necessary conditions are imposed into the saliency detection equations. Measures of distance between probability distributions such as negentropy finds the candidate license plates in the image and the Bayesian methodology exploits the a priori information to estimate the highest probability for each candidate. The proposed algorithm has been tested for three datasets, consisting of gray-scale and color images. A detection accuracy of 96% and an average execution time of 80 ms for the first dataset are the marked outcomes. The proposed method outperforms most of the state-of-the-art techniques and it is suitable to use in real-time ALPR applications.","PeriodicalId":206199,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130912585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The movement and variation of lip texture during reading potentially provide discriminative information for human identification. This paper firstly addressed the issue of whether the lip texture during reading can serve as a soft-biometric for person identification. Different from the traditional lip recognition methods that are based on color statistics and lip shapes, we develop a deep architecture that incorporates both CNN and LSTM to jointly model the appearance and the spatial-temporal information of lip texture. We also build a new lip recognition database that contains 11,123 videos for the number 0∼9 in Chinese from 57 people. Experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve 96.01% on close-set protocols, suggesting the usage of lip texture as soft-biometrics for facilitating face recognition.","PeriodicalId":206199,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132178116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in addition to L times complexity of conventional SC, both path selecting and updating result in extra complexity. In detail, the copy of intermediate values suffers from a long latency, especially when list size L is large. In this paper, a stage-located copy algorithm is proposed to avoid copying the same contents in candidate paths, which significantly reduces the processing latency. Furthermore, the resulting data processing speedup increases with code length. For (2048, 1723) polar codes, experimental results have shown that by employing the proposed stage-located copy, throughput of software-based SCL decoder with L = 32 achieves up to 1.1 Mbps throughput with 45% increase compared to the state-of-the-art software SCL decoders.","PeriodicalId":206199,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128892748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To explore a potential prompt monitoring technique for EA, inertial sensor system is used in this study on tibialis anterior (TA) muscle under EA therapy among 4 volunteered patients. The module of inertial sensor system is deployed onto the tiptoe to monitor the response of TA during EA stimulation. Totally 18 valid datasets are acquired including both those from 3-axes accelerators and 3-axes gyroscopes in the experiments. The root-mean-square (RMS), average rectified value (ARV) and mean power frequency (MPF) for the accelerator signals and the dynamic range of the tiptoe relative angle (DRA) for the gyroscope signals are then computed. It's found that after EA treatment, the dynamic range of TA response decreased in terms of RMS, ARV and DRA, while MPF of the accelerator signals increased. The inertial sensors, as wearable they are, might add a promising objective monitoring means of EA therapy, suggested by the results in the preliminary study.","PeriodicalId":206199,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127073768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing aircraft detection methods usually consist of two separated stages: proposal generation and window classification, which may be suboptimal for the aircraft detection task. To overcome this shortcoming, we propose a unified aircraft detection framework to simultaneously predict aircraft bounding boxes and class probabilities directly from an arbitrary-sized remote sensing image. Specifically, an end-to-end fully convolutional network (FCN) replaces the fully connected layers in traditional convolutional neural network (CNN). This can greatly reduce the model size while obtaining the comparable detection accuracy. To directly detect aircrafts under multiple scales and different aspect ratios, multiple referenced boxes are introduced. The whole framework can be optimized end-to-end by minimizing a multi-task loss. Extensive experiments on a common dataset demonstrate that the proposed method yields much lower false alarm rates at different recall rates than the state-of-the-art methods, and its speed is more than 35 times faster than the compared methods.","PeriodicalId":206199,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114747051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to tackle this problem, recently we proposed an approach for joint estimasion of the signal subspace and noise covariance matrix. However, an iterative procedure is involved in this method. This motivates us to present an new approach which is free of iteration in this paper. More precisely, the problem of noise-free covariance matrix estimation is first formulated as matrix completion. The signal and noise subspaces are then achieved by eigendecomposing the noise-free covariance matrix estimate and, therefore, traditional subspace-based DOA estimation algorithms can be applied directly. Numerical simulation results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":206199,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124014002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
