Application of such an algorithm to the problem of direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) is investigated through simulations. The algorithm is compared to other constrained adaptation algorithms known in the literature in terms of convergence rate for a similar misadjustment level. Two scenarios describing synchronous and asynchronous transmission are used in simulations of interference suppression in DS-CDMA communication, showing the capabilities of the algorithm in such applications.","PeriodicalId":205350,"journal":{"name":"ITS'98 Proceedings. The proposed system is an asynchronous, independent communication method that utilizes sector antennas for the first time with DS/SS IVC. Previous papers have neglected to explain some of the problems with boomerang communication, such as prolonged packet collisions when omni-directional antennas are used. The proposed system overcomes these problems by the use of sector antennas. This is confirmed by computer simulation. With increased reliability shown by the proposed system, a decrease in vehicular accidents and more intelligent traffic flow can be expected.","PeriodicalId":205350,"journal":{"name":"ITS'98 Proceedings. The environment was designed to be user friendly and to facilitate the creation of training material. This tool is being used to create courses in multi dimensional signal processing by researchers working together while geographically separated. In this paper, we present a digital image registration extension to the DIP Course. This extension depends on REGISTER, a new Khoros toolbox of image registration operators. A mathematical model of the network is presented with the purpose of minimizing the total cost of STM-N systems between nodes. The model jointly determines the routing of the working traffic and the spare capacity allocation required for the full restoration of the demand affected by any single link failure at a time. Some practical features have been included, such as flow integrality between network nodes, STM-N modularity and the possibility to superpose two hierarchical level systems in the links. The problem is solved using integer linear programming techniques. Since the execution time depends greatly on the number of integer variables that grow exponentially according to the size of the network, a heuristic has been developed that relaxes integer variables and, after iterative rounding off procedures, obtains the solution integrality. A hybrid correlation method is defined. Among the most promising applications are video-conference and video-on-demand. Video-conferences extends current voice-conference by allowing participants to see their body language and to use visual information. Users of a video-on-demand system can select and watch films from video archives. In this paper, we consider distributed home theatre (DHT), a hybrid application in which a film is simultaneously played for the participants of a video-conference. The basic idea is to allow a group of distributed users to discuss a film. In a DHT session, any participant can initiate a debate about a specific scene by performing VCR operations on the video. It is expected that distributed home theatre will have a great impact on distance-learning as well as on professional conferences. Video applications like DHT will require huge bandwidth resources in the future broadband integrated network. In this paper, we investigate the design of networks with distributed servers to provide DHT services, and reduce the huge bandwidth demand of distributed video services. A distributed server is a set of identical servers which cooperate during a DHT session. In other words, the servers involved in a DHT session exchange control messages, so that all the participants of a session watch the same scene. Different servers deliver video streams for a different participant (or group of participants) of the same session. Furthermore, we consider server/cache replication techniques and we comment on the use of distributed servers in networks with multicast.","PeriodicalId":205350,"journal":{"name":"ITS'98 Proceedings.
