To get a more exact image, a new system is designed with a scintillator-CCD detector which can correct the attenuation of incident and scattered beams by transmission CT obtained simultaneously. The proposed system can detect wide angle coherent scattered and transmitted X-rays with high spatial resolution by the same detector.","PeriodicalId":20427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80983697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methodology the authors developed is based on the CAVIAR approach. This guarantees a precise measurement of the changes of the orientation of the QRS and T loops inertia axes by overcoming any spatio-temporal changes ascribable to desynchronizations or physiology. The anatomic orientations of the left ventricle long axis (LVLA) were determined by MRI for different body positions and compared to the estimated values. Preliminary results indicate that the authors' method is suitable for the estimation of the changes of the beat-to-beat spatial orientation of the LVLA.","PeriodicalId":20427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81110610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Continuous measurement of DUN was performed by a post-filter enzymatic sensor (Hospal Dasco Spa) on six patients undergoing standard haemodialysis. In order to allow for early and reliable prediction of the end of dialysis values, a variable-volume double-pool model is used since the classical first order model cannot account for the fast-to-slow dynamics occurring during the first hour. Three parameter combinations are estimated at each time on the basis of the past DUN history: K/sub d//V/sub 0/, K/sub d/C/sub 0/ and VR, where K/sub d/, V/sub o/, C/sub o/, and VR are the dialyzer clearance, the total urea distribution volume, the initial plasma concentration, and the intra-extracellular volume ratio, respectively. Residuals between model-predicted and measured data have an average root mean square error of about 3% of the DUN excursion and model parameters show realistic values. The final dose of dialysis is predicted by multiplying K/sub d//V/sub o/ for the scheduled duration of the dialysis session. Prediction after 70 min from the beginning of the session differs on the average by less than 5% from the final value thus demonstrating the applicability of the proposed method. Furthermore, knowledge of model parameters allows for early and accurate prediction of the total urea removed.","PeriodicalId":20427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81112423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Identification of morphological changes of the evoked responses has been suggested, requiring however a skilled operator to predetermine the location of the variable components. In this paper the authors propose an alternative approach for the identification of variable single-trial EPs, based on reconstruction of the EPs from the Principal Components of the data correlation matrix and thus eliminating the requirement of a-priori knowledge of the variable component locations. The reconstruction performance is demonstrated via simulations and application to experimental EP data.","PeriodicalId":20427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85906593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As basic mechanisms sufficient to elicit heart rate oscillations, the model incorporates: the systemic circulation, a non-pulsatile cardiac pump and a delayed non-linear negative-feedback simulating the arterial baroreceptor reflex. Short-term autonomic control of the cardiac pump is effected through sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions whose activities are modulated by afferent vagal tone. Model dynamics result high sensitive to changes of autonomic regulation parameters whose variations within a physiological range cause heart rate and arterial pressure to oscillate with frequencies within 0.1-0.4 Hz band. Simulation results reveal that because of the different latent periods characterising the sympathetic- and vagal-mediate controls two distinct oscillatory components with incommensurate frequencies may appear. Heart rate power spectrum exhibits a peak in LF band whose frequency diminishes form 0.17 to 0.12 Hz when efferent parasympathetic activity is partially depressed. Instead, an oscillatory component with high-frequency (0.4 Hz) appears when an enhancement of vagal activation or a partial inhibition of the sympathetic excitation is simulated.","PeriodicalId":20427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84017113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method uses a low-rank approximation of the covariance matrix and offers a compromise between numerical complexity and convergence. In the first part of the article, the authors describe the method briefly. In the second part, they apply it to filtered spindles to find an adequate agreement with a model of spindles that they put forward. Finally, it is concluded that there are different sorts of spindles according to frequency variation.","PeriodicalId":20427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78335984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A number of the aged-persons, who are suffering from senile dementia, are not able to recognize one's location or time. Using the proposed system, the aged-persons' family and co-workers are able to know the location of the aged-person, if the person strays on a street. In this system, Personal Handy-phone System (PHS) is applied to track the aged-person. The relay stations of PHS are located at several places. For example, the stations are located on top of a telephone box on a street, each floor and each top of a building, at a subway station and so on. So, it is able to track the aged-person and to apply the PHS for detecting. In this paper, the signal intensity distribution of handy electronic marker of the system is analyzed.","PeriodicalId":20427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78003806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Another strength of this technique is its robustness as the network can also classify DR effectively in noisy environments.","PeriodicalId":20427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72811548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
