The travelogues engage with the contemporary practices of mediating and representing tourist sites, including guidebooks, travel writing, and visual attractions, such as panoramas and dioramas. Following Jonathan Crary’s theory of modernist painting as a reaction to the malleability of visual perception, this study shows how the attempts to control, mediate, and disseminate impressions from tourist sites at the same time made them subjective and volatile. Thus, the tourist site and the tourist experience became an important point of departure for Strindberg’s literary experimentation.Keywords: , , ,","PeriodicalId":202881,"journal":{"name":"Tidskrift för litteraturvetenskap","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127583980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I examine how the transgender character in Frankissstein relates to ideas about nature-culture, biology-technology, and mind-body. Drawing from new materialist theory, the essay examines the possibilites of a materialist trans ecology that understands both identitites and bodies as constructed. The essay demonstrates that the transgender character Ry Shelley is a hybrid character, combining male-female, biologytechnology and nature-culture in a single person. While the other major character, Victor Stein, detests the material and wants to become pure mind, the narrator Ry Shelley shows the importance of the body and becomesan illustration of how human identity is not just a discursive construction, but also a biological and technical-material construction. In Frankissstein the transgender character is a defense of the material human being, and an example of how all humans are hybrids.","PeriodicalId":202881,"journal":{"name":"Tidskrift för litteraturvetenskap","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134123755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fathers, Mothers and Gender Schemes in Gunnel Beckman’s Tre veckor över tiden and Ingvar Wahlen’s Flickan i huset vid ån. \u0000In the Swedish contemporary novel for young adults that emerged in the 1970’s, the father figure was given a new role. Instead of depicting fathers as absent and authoritarian breadwinners, as had previously been common, authors now introduced a more complex father who was present and loving but who also had problems of his own. This role was in line with the ideological shift in society towards more equal gender roles, and with political aims to encourage fathers to be more involved in their children’s lives. The aim of this article is to discuss the fictional father figure in reference to the vision of the new father that was launched in Sweden in the beginning of the 1970’s. Moreover, the depiction of the committed father will be examined in relation tothe protagonist, namely the teenage daughter, and to the mother figure. Central themes in these novels are, on the one hand, the close relationship between the father and the protagonist, and on the other hand the problematic relationship between the daughter and the mother. These issues will be discussed in reference to gender power dynamics and the women’s emancipation movement.","PeriodicalId":202881,"journal":{"name":"Tidskrift för litteraturvetenskap","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114560949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Att undervisa i humaniora verkar idag i allt högre grad innebära att konfronteras med frågan hur undervisningen, ända ner i dess minsta beståndsdelar, kan examineras. Hur kan man veta vilket betyg en viss student förtjänarpå en specifik del av ett seminarium? Är gruppdiskussioner ens möjliga eller blir de överflödiga om de inte går att övervaka och examinera? Denna tendens – att examinationen blir viktigare än både undervisningens innehåll och former – kan förstås som en följd av ökad detaljstyrning generellt inom den högre utbildningens ramverk, men vi upplever det också som att dagens studenter ofta anammar och internaliserar detta synsätt. \u0000Vi gick därför ut med en förfrågan till olika universitet och högskolor för att undersöka om några delade vår uppfattning: Håller du med om beskrivningen ovan? Är denna tendens i så fall ett problem eller något att omfamna? Hur bör litteraturvetenskapen förhålla sig till denna utveckling? Kan vi fortsätta som vi alltid har gjort, eller kommer detta att förändra möjligheterna att bedriva undervisning i litteraturvetenskap? Finns det därför skäl att protestera? Här nedan ger några litteraturvetare sin syn på problematiken.","PeriodicalId":202881,"journal":{"name":"Tidskrift för litteraturvetenskap","volume":"167 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123507136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis focuses primarily on one specific aspect of the good mother– the (biological) mother who instinctively knows how to take care of her child and who is always willing to sacrifice herself forit – and how this notion influences the main characters’ thoughts and actions. Attention is also paid to in which extent and in what ways the novels resist this notion and if they try to change it. The study thus enters the research area of motherhood studies, more specifically of literary representations of motherhood.","PeriodicalId":202881,"journal":{"name":"Tidskrift för litteraturvetenskap","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126302552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
