Polymer composites filled with raw castor cake (CC) and castor cake treated with 5% NaOH solution (MCC) were developed and the tensile and biodegradation behaviour of the materials obtained were evaluated. The incorporation of mercerized fibers to polymeric matrices generated materials with an elastic modulus superior to that of LDPE and tensile strength values close to that of LDPE. The biodegradation rates of the polymer composites increased the addition of fibers. However, alkali-treated fibres had a less pronounced effect biodegradation rates of the polimeric composites, due to the lower tendency of mercerized fibers to absorb water. The 85/10/5 LDPE/PHB/CC composite showed greater mass loss, 3.1%, than the 85/10/5 LDPE/PHB/ MCC composite, respectively, 0.9%, in 180 days.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"242 1","pages":"356 - 363"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77478875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mathematical formulations are done using finite element-based first-order shear deformation theory. A MATLAB programme is developed using isoperimetric quadrilateral elements with five degrees-of-freedom per node. Uniaxial and biaxial loading on full and partial edge of the plate are considered in the analysis. Solution for buckling load is done using eigenvalue approach and detailed parametric studies revealed the influence of the aspect ratio, plate span to thickness ratio, the shape of hole, distribution of mechanical and thermal load, boundary conditions, and fibre orientation on buckling loads and temperature. The findings of this study are in good agreement with those presented in the literature, verifying the efficiency of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"9 1","pages":"387 - 401"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82563846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results revealed that torque difference, hardness, strengths, and total/ionic crosslink densities increased; whereas the elongation at break and covalent crosslink density reduced with increasing ZDMA. As ZDMA increased, the ionic crosslink density of the blends gradually increased. Optimum tensile and tear strength of the compound were observed at 12.5 phr of ZDMA. At 5 and 7.5 phr of ZDMA, the blends showed significant good healing efficiency, supported by the characterization tests such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and manual video measuring machine (VMM). Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis showed the presence of ZDMA in the blends. The dynamic ionic bond of ZDMA contributed to the self-healing properties in the blends. The zinc ions pair constituted the ion multiplet and ionic clusters, forming an ionic supramolecular network.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"25 1","pages":"315 - 329"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83186220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed that adding PLA to PHB increased the mechanical properties of the blends, and the mechanical properties increased more with the high loading of PLA. The reinforcement with n–TiO2 improved the mechanical properties of the blends; however, the presence of the CNF in the blends generally decreased the mechanical properties. The grey relational analysis showed that the best BNCs were 75% PHB /25% PLA with 0.5% CNF. However, Taguchi analysis found that 75% PHB / 25% PLA with 2% n–TiO2 has the best mechanical properties.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"134 1","pages":"375 - 386"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84923879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work aimed for a constant melt-front velocity inside the cavities with varying geometries. Three methods of reservoir designs were considered: first, using engineering intuition, second and third, using mass balance and mass and momentum balance equations, respectively. Eight reservoirs were designed and compared to two no-reservoir cases. For each case, 27 runs covering three levels of fill-rate, F/P, and packing pressure were simulated, resulting in 270 simulation runs. The quality variables of flow and thermally induced retardation and the average and standard deviation of volumetric shrinkage were considered and for each parameter, the minimum, best cases, occurred with a reservoir case. Thus, this study offers a proof-of-concept design for using reservoirs to improve molding of small, high-precision optical parts.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"15 1","pages":"330 - 345"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88613903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Five different natural rubber compounds were prepared as 3NAB, 4NAB, 5NAB, 6NAB and 7NAB, which contain different amounts of acetylene black. Thermal conductivities were measured at different temperatures and pressures. The viscosity of the five compounds was measured and it was found that viscosity increases as the amount of acetylene black increases. Thermal conductivity measurements were performed at different temperatures and pressures by using a capillary rheometer. The obtained results indicated that thermal conductivity increased with the increasing acetylene black. The relationship between thermal conductivity-pressure and thermal conductivity-temperature have also been examined. Additionally, the mechanical properties, electrical conductivity, and thermal stability of the compounds were analysed. The change of these properties with the amount of acetylene black was examined.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"773 ","pages":"276 - 291"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72442901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the literature, the failure mechanism of aging and wear of rubber materials in hydraulic system was studied in this paper. Fretting wear, abrasive wear, fatigue wear and adhesive wear were the main wear mechanisms. The swelling aging of rubber accelerates the wear. At the same time, the factors affecting the wear resistance of rubber such as temperature, displacement amplitude, liquid medium and surface roughness were discussed. The research status of improving the wear resistance of rubber in recent years was introduced from three aspects: reinforcing filler, surface treatment, heat generation and heat conductivity of rubber, and the development trend of hydraulic sealing technology in the future was prospected.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"125 1","pages":"249 - 266"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77977467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Raman spectroscopy was used as an alternative to study the filler-matrix interface behaviour. It was found that the amount of magnetite and its size (nano or micro) induce variations in the stress transfer between the fillers and the matrix. Stress propagation altered the graphitic domains of the carbon black that fill the matrix and induced shifts in position, changes in width, and intensity of the D and G bands. The XPS high-resolution spectra corresponding to the Fe2p, C1s, and S2p regions of the composites confirmed chemical interactions at the interface of the nanosized magnetite-filled composites. Fe-C and Fe-S bonds were identified in those regions between the fillers and the NBR matrix. No chemical bonds were found at the interface of the composites filled with microsized magnetite.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"38 1","pages":"267 - 275"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82838872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect of temperature on the thermal properties and the effect of vulcanisation time on the mechanical properties are analyzed. The specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity both increase with increasing temperature, and the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity are approximated as linear functions of temperature. The tensile strength, elongation at break and abrasion properties of vulcanizate are significantly affected by the vulcanisation time. As the vulcanisation time increases, the tensile strength first increases and then decreases, and the elongation at break changes with the vulcanisation time on the contrary. The wear volume of tread rubber first decreases and then increases with the increase of vulcanisation time. At the positive vulcanisation time, the tensile strength of the vulcanizate reached the maximum value, while the elongation at break and wear volume reached the minimum value.","PeriodicalId":20245,"journal":{"name":"Plastics, Rubber and Composites","volume":"42 1","pages":"304 - 313"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85232622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"材料科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study evaluated the performances of new brake lining composites with 15% and 20% novolac resin additives by performing wear tests in different temperature environments. Friction wear tests were performed according to ASTM G99 using pin-on-disc test devices at temperatures of 23°C, 150°C and 300°C. The hardness and density of the samples increased by 2.4% and 3.7%, respectively, with the increase of the novolac resin ratio in the composition.
