In this paper, Global Field Synchronization (GFS) measurements of multi channel ERP (Event Related Potential) signals in Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma frequency bands are used as discriminating feature vectors in the classification of alcoholic and non-alcoholic control subjects. GFS measurements show the functional connectivity of neurocognitive networks in the patient's brain as a response to a given stimuli type. A channel optimization algorithm that improves recognition accuracy by selecting channels with the most significant attributes is applied during Global Field Synchronization prior to classification stage. Probabilistic Neural Network is used as the classifier. The proposed system successfully classifies alcoholic and non-alcoholic subjects with accuracy over 80%.","PeriodicalId":202398,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 9th International Symposium on Applied Machine Intelligence and Informatics (SAMI)","volume":"60 19","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120810785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Model based approaches offer a very challenging way to integrate a priori knowledge into the procedure. Due to their flexibility, robustness, and easy interpretability, the application of soft computing, in particular fuzzy and neural network based models, may have an exceptional role at many fields, especially in cases where the problem to be solved is highly nonlinear or when only partial, uncertain and/or inaccurate data is available. Nevertheless, ever so advantageous their usage can be, it can still be limited by their high computational complexity. Although, a possible solution can be, if we combine soft computing and anytime techniques, because the anytime mode of operation is able to adaptively cope with the available, usually imperfect or even missing information, the dynamically changing, possibly insufficient amount of resources and reaction time. In this paper, a soft computing based anytime modeling methodology is presented for handling resource insufficiency and the applicability of the generated models is analyzed in dynamically changing, complex, time-critical systems.","PeriodicalId":202398,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 9th International Symposium on Applied Machine Intelligence and Informatics (SAMI)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114592270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

EDF calculates the deadline of a packet as follows: the latency parameter provided by the subscriber during admission control is added to the arrival time of the packet to form the packet deadline on Base Station (BS). Although EDF shows good performance in real-time applications, it can be enhanced. In this paper, we propose a cross layer architecture which takes the expected delay of a packet that will be faced into account in the calculation of deadline of the packet. The proposed algorithm improves the performance of EDF and the preliminary simulation results are promising.","PeriodicalId":202398,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 9th International Symposium on Applied Machine Intelligence and Informatics (SAMI)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132655522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Normally they simply have to be compensated in control systems in which they appear as undesired perturbations. In other tasks as acceleration/deceleration of wheeled vehicles they are key factors determining the limits of the effective control actions. Safe braking of vehicles with prescribed deceleration or possibly minimized braking route is an interesting task for the solution of which various friction models and controllers have been elaborated. Since the friction parameters strongly depend on the environmental conditions the identification of the appropriate model for braking purposes is practically hopeless. In the present paper a simple model-free controller is suggested and outlined that needs only the observation of the deceleration of the vehicle body and the rotation of the wheels as independent physical quantities. The operation of the suggested controller is illustrated via simulations that uses a particular friction model with typical parameters taken from the literature. The method may have further development by adaptive techniques that do not concern the friction model itself but other parameters of the controlled system that are assumed to be approximately known.","PeriodicalId":202398,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 9th International Symposium on Applied Machine Intelligence and Informatics (SAMI)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134581758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
