Traumatic dental injuries pose significant consequences to the health of the child, not only functionally, but also psychologically and socially [1]. These consequences also have significant impact on parents, who are generally concerned with esthetic and economic aspects of this problem [2]. The prognosis of some dental injuries depends largely on parents’ knowledge of correct and prompt emergency measures [3]. Traumatic injuries can, thus, have a significant impact on a child’s quality of life. A high percentage of children with dental trauma present late for treatment, possibly because of lack of awareness and knowledge among related adults, resulting in unfavorable long-term prognosis. Parents, especially mothers play an important role in their children’ life, as they are the primary source of information allowing importing their knowledge. Forty-one percent of dental injuries occur at home. Mothers therefore should play an important role in taking appropriate decision [4]. Increased overjet, environmental determinants and human behavior were found to increase the risk for traumatic dental injuries [3]. Statistics from many countries show that one third of preschool children suffer from traumatic dental injuries involving primary dentition and one-fourth permanent dentition. Between 71% and 92% of all injuries, sustained in a lifetime occur before the age of 19. They occur at home followed by school and public places [5]. 50% of school children have sustained traumatic injuries prior to graduation [4]. In Asia and Africa, the prevalence of TDI to anterior teeth among adolescents ranges from 4% to 35% and from 15% to 21%, respectively. In America and Europe, the prevalence varied from 15% to 23% and 23% to 35%, respectively [6].","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130961484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 41 year old male had caries and it was diagnosed as MOD on tooth #24 FDA (#12 ADA). While removing the caries, its extension was deep exposing the pulp a little bit. After the hemorrhage stopped calcium hydroxide was placed on the exposed spot. To disinfect the dentinal cavity floor, a non-traditional but well documented disinfectant called gaseous ozone was used carefully before filling the cavity with composite resin. After 23 months of follow-up there were no post-operative complications noticed proving the efficacy of this method on this case.","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122124806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The application of antiepileptic drugs, associated to the main common health disorder, can provoke initiation or progression of gingival hyperplasia. The aim of our study is to investigate the interrelation between the oral health status and condition of autism in child’s age in the context of a case report. The individual dental status registration ascertains a clinical finding of totally caries-resistant mixed dentition. It concerns a patient with very good personal oral hygiene. There are no signs of clinical manifestation of gingival inflammation. We accentuate on the fact that maintenance of proper common health status and oral health, respectively high quality of life, can be provided and ensured for children suffering from autistic spectrum disorder only when parents, dental medicine doctors and physicians of different professional scopes combine their efforts and collaborate with each other.","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129796998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each participant completed questionnaires on the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS), the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD), the Tampa scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) and the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS). Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS version 22.0. A total of 46% students reported symptoms of TMD. Among them, 59 (40.7%) students reported presence of jaw click, 54 (37.2%) reported presence of joint pain and 26 (17.9%) reported difficulty in opening mouth. Results indicated that students who reported jaw pain (p=.004) or difficulty in opening mouth (p=.016) experienced headache symptoms. Students who reported the TMD symptoms of jaw click (69.5%), jaw pain (63%) and difficulty in opening (61.5%) were all female students. Female students experiencing jaw click was found to be significant (p =.000). Students who reported a high DASS score (indicating depression and anxiety) are significantly correlated with self-assessed TMD symptoms (jaw click, p=.054; jaw pain, p=.002 and difficulty upon opening, p=.028, respectively). This study found a significant correlation between the presence of anxiety and depression among university students and its subsequent impact on temporomandibular disorders. This leads to a recommendation for counselling and support services being made more widely available.","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134475496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The patient also had an extracted lower central incisor resulting in the loss of anterior incisal guidance and a collapsed lower anterior region. The correction of the skeletal class II discrepancy was achieved by correction of the inclination of the maxillary incisors, opening of the bite and forward posturing of the mandible. The space in the lower anterior region was regained for replacement of the extracted incisor using a conventional Maryland bridge thereby establishing an anterior incisal guidance. Improvement in the smile and facial esthetics were achieved.","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114397859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Toxic devitalising agents such as arsenic trioxide (As2O3), a water-soluble compound, forming arsenious acid (H3AsO4) and paraformaldehyde were commonly used in the past to devitalise inflamed pulps when effective anaesthesia could not be obtained [2]. Among these substances an important role was played by paraformaldehyde pastes. In the oral cavity paraformaldehyde agents are used both as disinfectants and to devitalise inflamed pulps when local anaesthesia is ineffective. Despite the clinical benefits paraformaldehyde is not confined to the pulp, but penetrates through dentine and is gradually released as formaldehyde. Formaldehyde released through dentine has a destructive effect on periodontal and bone tissues [3-8].","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114845261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
