Apical periodontitis (AP) is an inflammatory process of the periradicular tissues caused by a microbial infection. The risks of retreatment, especially in obliterated root canals and student treatment, are significant. In addition, perforations can increase the chance of treatment failure. Factors that have impact include location and size of the perforation, potential microbial colonization of the endodontic system, the time between the occurrence of the perforation and its repair as well as the filling material. The clinical case could be further complicated by perforation in the risk zone, which makes the expected outcome of treatment rather unfavorable. For a long-term success it is important to disinfect and sterilize both the perforated area and the root canals. The result of this retreatment has been tracked for one calendar year in the present study. It concluded that the examined clinical case is an example of a favorable outcome of treatment of a complicated situation and also demonstrates the correct clinical approach in terms of student learning.","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127429628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Children are at extreme risk of sleep disorders because of stress, anxiety, mental health condition, hyperactivity, genetic disorders. The prevalence of sleep disorders among children in Saudi Arabia is approximately 18% among school-going children. This study has aimed to identify the association between sleep disorders and Down syndrome among children in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Method: The children with Down syndrome who were attending daycare facilities or special care centers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, were selected for the study. A total of 23 children, ranging in age from 10 to 14, were recruited. To obtain data on demographics and subjective aspects, a self-administered, structured, and validated questionnaire was utilized. SPSS version 17 has been used for data analysis in this study. Results: The finding revealed that 17.4% of the children faced apneas; however, only 13% of the children faced troubled breathing. Furthermore, 4% of the children used to open their mouth during the day for mouth breathing. 52.2% of the children reported that it is hard to wake up; 39.1% of the children reported sleepy per instructor and only 13% of the children reported a problem with sleepiness. 65.2% of the children faced nocturnal enuresis. Conclusion: Sleep disorder or sleep apnea is relatively common among Down syndrome Saudi children. However future studies with larger sample size are required to get more in-depth findings.","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126893547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Impairment associated with the jaw’s function characterizes the condition, such as malocclusion, disfunction of mastication muscles and temporomandibular joint. In gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the gastric acid content is refluxed to the oesophagus, and in many cases, toward the oral cavity leading to clinical symptoms. We aimed to assess the relationship between GERD and TMD based on a review of contemporary literature. Methods: 240 studies were identified during the database search; an additional 17 were selected by hand. Abstracted screening selected 25 studies for in-depth analyses, out of which 10 were chosen for systematic review. Results: The systematic review includes 1984 patients from 10 articles. The mean age of patients was 29 years. GERD was identified as a risk factor for TMD. Fifty per cent of studies have dealt with the treatment of GERD together with TMD. In three studies, omeprazole was used to treat GERD symptoms, and in one, there were advised against managing TMD with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in GERD patients. Conclusion: TMD can occur in patients with GERD. However, the relationship between both diseases has rarely been studied. Cooperation between doctors and dentists is recommended in treating patients with GERD and TMD, especially in selecting appropriate pharmacotherapy.","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123819956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, many biomaterials like graphene came into existence, PEEK is another material which is gaining importance. In dentistry, PEEK finds its use in many ways, especially in its branch of prosthodontics. This article also reviews various properties of PEEK and its surface modifications. PEEK is a good material for fabricating CAD-CAM fixed and removable prostheses due to its superior properties compared to materials such as acrylic. In addition, this paper also highlights the drawbacks of PEEK.","PeriodicalId":202100,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health","volume":"14 33","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120860238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
