The language and literature programs in public and private schools have become more flexible due to the new standard structure that the Philippines adopted due to the Covid-19 epidemic. This study utilized a basic qualitative design under a qualitative research approach. There were six (6) English teachers as participants. The participants answered open-ended questions about language and literature programs in one's school in the new normal of education through social media platforms, Facebook messenger. The data has yielded three (3) themes: learning competencies and guides of language and literature programs, approaches and programs to language acquisition and literature appreciation, and new learning methods towards language and literature programs. Hence, the language programs sharpen students' macro abilities, which they will use in real-life situations. Literature programs also seek to help students understand and appreciate literary appreciation and analysis. The utilization of diverse techniques, programs, and competencies will allow for more practical learning. It is essential to the teacher's job that we motivate students to master these abilities. The policy to learn from home during COVID 19 pandemic could have increased the complexities and challenges. This study aimed at discovering the nature of problems and challenges of undergraduate research supervision in the English Education Department of Universitas Kristen Indonesia Jakarta, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative method using a content analysis approach, this study was conducted in October to November 2020 involving 5 faculty members and 15 students who participated in the research supervision held amid COVID 19. Data from the faculty members were gathered through a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews, and data from the students were gathered using a questionnaire and focus group discussions. The obtained data were analyzed using the qualitative content analysis technique. The results revealed that the students viewed the online undergraduate supervision during COVID as very complex and challenging due to their limited research and writing skills, inability to access the research fields, inadequate ICT skills for research, absence of face-to-face communication, and ICT constraints. Nevertheless, such studies focusing on online learning are yet underrepresented within informal education contexts. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the teachers’ self-regulation in implementing the instructional strategies in real-time online teaching. This study was undertaken in an English course in an informal institution during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the explanatory sequential method, the data were collected from sixteen teachers with different levels of classes in teaching, nine of whom are full-timers and seven part-timers. A set of questionnaires was adapted from TSRS (Teacher Self-Regulation Scale) by a five-point Likert scale to accommodate two variables, namely: (1) the strategies as self-regulated teachers, (2) the relation between the teacher’s self-regulation and instructional strategies in real-time online teaching. The other two open-ended questions were addressed to support the quantitative data. The findings demonstrate that the role of teacher’s self-regulation in teaching and implementing instructional strategies is essential in real-time online teaching. In addition, due to the pandemic that surrounded the world at the beginning of 2020, schools had to switch from face-to-face to distance education; therefore, the need for technology use and expansion of online applications became inevitable. As a result of this massive change in education and the emergence of online applications as language learning tools, this evaluation study investigates Edpuzzle, Flipgrid, Padlet, and Quizlet that are created as educational applications used in English language classes. The paper starts with the hegemony of technology in education and then continues with the evaluation of these online applications. Lastly how to use these applications effectively in English as a foreign language (EFL) classrooms is discussed. It can be reported that EDpuzzle can mostly be used for authentic video sessions; Flipgrid is effective on online speaking skills; Padlet is helpful with students’ writing skills, and lastly, Quizlet is beneficial for vocabulary teaching. Behind this rapid growth is the widespread belief that EMI provides English immersion, which facilitates incidental learning of the target language. However, not all EMI programs in EFL contexts provide the same immersion as those in the Anglosphere. English-medium university textbooks were therefore targeted as a research focus in that they offer non-English subject majors a sustainable channel for exposure to English in the EFL context. The researcher compiled two 4-million-token accounting and civil engineering textbook corpora and measured the vocabulary levels and amounts along the BNC/COCA word-frequency scale. Results show that accounting textbooks reached the 5th 1000-word-family level at 98% text coverage while civil engineering textbooks stretched to the 9th–10th 1000 level. Twelve repetitions were used as a benchmark for incidental learning. Only 1,479 word families beyond the first 3000 occurred 12+ times in the accounting corpus versus 3,397 word families in the civil engineering corpus. They are also claimed to be more effective than other materials and tools to empower EFL students to use English in socially and culturally appropriate ways as they facilitate students to engage with rich, authentic target language uses (Cameron, 2001) and offer motivating source to transmit information and ideas, nurture values and beliefs, and convey subliminal messages (King, 2001). Yet, available studies still lack essentials like what specific aspects of EFL learning have profited from short story use and how short story efficacies were exactly measured. This review aims at exploring the trend in 35 experimental research on short stories use in EFL classrooms published in 2011-2020, what they say about short stories efficacy, and the identified gaps that future research needs to address.
