OTFT-based sensing technologies take advantage of the physical or chemical changes taking place in or around the organic semiconducting material when exposed to different analytes in gaseous or aqueous environments. Measurements in electrolytes and complex media relevant for cell analysis have shown that the devices can be directly used as ion-sensitive transducers and are suitable for in vitro biosensing applications. Within the pH range from 6–8 relevant for cell analysis, an almost linear dependence of the device current with the pH has been observed. At room-temperature, ion-sensitivity of e.g. Na+ down to 10–5 M can be easily achieved.","PeriodicalId":201386,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE SENSORS Proceedings","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125830395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We claim that capturing events globally, although seems against intuition, can save energy by enabling the organization of effective searching queries. To enable this capability, sensor readings can be combined using electronic switches and therefore enable event detections in groups of sensors with single measurements. We demonstrate this sensing mechanism on a prototype keyboard system made from E-Textile pressure sensors.","PeriodicalId":201386,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE SENSORS Proceedings","volume":"599 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123275206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Virtual Machines (VMs) provide a reprogrammable and hardware-independent runtime environment for WSN-based applications but at the expenses of a lower efficiency. On the contrary, code native loaders provide higher computational efficiency but do not support heterogeneous networks and are not able to optimize the code size. In this paper we suggest REEL, a real-time computational-efficient reprogrammable VM-based framework for WSNs. The proposed approach guarantees a higher efficiency compared to traditional VMs and a shorter execution time which, in turn, implies a lower energy consumption. Experimental results on a real application confirm the validity of the proposed solution.","PeriodicalId":201386,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE SENSORS Proceedings","volume":"07 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123406394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A piezoresistive bridge is integrated in the cantilever for signal sensing. An electrostatic method is employed to trap the NPs on the cantilever surface. The experimental results indicate that the cantilever sensor operated in the second resonant mode exhibits higher quality factor than the fundamental mode, i.e. 2100, implying that a higher sensitivity, i.e. 32.75 Hz/ng, can be attained by operation at higher resonant mode. The influences of thermal, pressure and relative humidity, respectively, on the sensor have also been investigated with the purpose of observing the limitation of sensor sensitivity imposed by the environment.","PeriodicalId":201386,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE SENSORS Proceedings","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126952382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four sputtering process parameters (e.g. substrate temperature, sputtering power and pressure, Ar/O2 flow rate) were modulated to achieve a high C-axis (002) orientated piezoelectric ZnO film and a high electromechanical coupling factor of the FPW device. Under the optimized sputtering condition in this work, a high X-Ray diffraction (XRD) intensity (20,944 a.u) of the ZnO thin-film at 34.2° diffraction angle and a very narrow full-width at half-maximum (FWHM = 0.573°) can be demonstrated. Furthermore, as the optimized ZnO layer integrated on the bulk-micromachined FPW sensor, very low insertion loss (14dB) and high electromechanical coupling coefficient (11.62%) can be obtained at a very low operation frequency.","PeriodicalId":201386,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE SENSORS Proceedings","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115586356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the well performance in dealing with evolving surface, the FMM has been improved and introduced into three-dimensional (3D) lithography simulation of thick photoresists such as SU-8 photoresist. A stationary level set formulation of lithography simulation has been established, and solved at an extremely fast speed. A hash table has been applied to reduce the storage memory of the algorithm by 23% at least without any precision loss. As a result, the 3D lithography simulation of thick SU-8 has been successfully implemented and the obtained results indicate that the modified fast marching method can be used as an effective tool to accelerate the thick photoresists lithography simulations.","PeriodicalId":201386,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE SENSORS Proceedings","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116026949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

WSN radio constraints limit the amount of this meta-data that can be sent. Logging it to the node's onboard storage can also aid in long-term performance debugging. Using the stored data it is possible for nodes to do statistical analysis for the detection of performance anomalies in the network, rather than at the sink. In this paper we compare the cost and accuracy of performing anomaly detection in the network and at the sink.","PeriodicalId":201386,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE SENSORS Proceedings","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122365099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These environments and applications preclude the use of batteries and normally require wireless and multiple sensor interrogation. The University of Maine and Environetix Technologies have successfully responded to these needs by researching and developing surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors based on the langasite family of crystals and co-deposited Pt/Rh/ZrO2 thin-film electrode technology. This paper reports on the recent achievements, which include: long term operation in furnace and technology validation in jet-engine static and rotating parts up to 53,000 g's; stable and repetitive wired and wireless responses of temperature sensors; multiple wireless sensor interrogation; and associated packaging (tests run in the 200°C to 1000°C range).","PeriodicalId":201386,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE SENSORS Proceedings","volume":"286 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122636145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
