This regularity can be exploited for self-calibration of the array. In this paper, we introduce a new self-calibration method for regular arrays based on weighted alternating least squares (WALS) optimization that appears to be statistically efficient and does not impose requirements on the source structure or on pre-calibration of the array. We show results from Monte Carlo simulations indicating that the proposed method already attains the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) at very low SNR and produces unbiased results. Our simulations also indicate that the approach most commonly used in the literature does not attain the CRB at high SNR and produces biased results at low SNR.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132864792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main constraints of the application scenario are analysed and the tracking algorithm is designed following the application constraints. The tracking is done by the fusion of RSSI measurements using the weighted centroid algorithm to compute the position and inertial sensors to compute the heading and speed by means of a step detection. The measurement information is processed using an Extended Kalman Filter.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"58 12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128175985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the field of speech recognition, we propose to use the same approach on the MFCCs' time derivatives to enhance the timbre model. The Gaussian models for the delta and acceleration coefficients are used to create their respective distance matrix. The distance matrices are then combined linearly to form a full distance matrix for music similarity estimation. In our experiments on two datasets, our novel approach performs better than using MFCC alone. Moreover, performing genre classification using k-NN showed that the accuracies obtained are already close to the state-of-the-art.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128473616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose the use of non-linear precoding techniques, such as Tomlinson-Harashima pre-coding (THP) and vector precoding (VP), at the downlink relayed transmission scenario with the aim of outperforming the more common linear strategies. In order to reduce the computational cost of the proposed schemes, we propose a novel suboptimal matrix design approach for VP transmission. Provided simulation results show that the proposed non-linear precoding schemes outperform the best MIMO-AF relaying architectures in the literature, even when a reduced-complexity suboptimal strategy is adopted, considering both BER performance and mean square error minimization.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132154019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a novel feature for the estimation of parameters of overlapping harmonics which considers the covariance of partials of pitched sounds. Sound templates are formed from the monophonic parts of the mixture recording. A match for every note is found among these templates on the basis of covariance profile of their harmonics. The matching template for the note provides the second order characteristics for the overlapped harmonics of the note. The algorithm is tested on the RWC music database instrument sounds. The results clearly show that the covariance characteristics can be used to reconstruct overlapping harmonics effectively.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134283669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wide beam patterns are essential for many applications from various fields such as military and telecommunications. In this work, we propose two different approaches for generating wide beam patterns having high power levels. In the first approach, the problem is modelled as a second order cone program (SOCP). In this model, the antenna weights are the optimization parameters. The global optimal solution to this model can be achieved by any SOCP solver. In the other approach, all the antenna elements are assumed to work at the same power level. By choosing only the element phases as the optimization parameters, a non-convex optimization problem is constructed. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is employed for finding the best solution. Experiments show that, both methods have similar performances for generating wide beam patterns with high effective radiated powers (ERP). It is observed that, SOCP based method suppressed the beam pattern in the undesired azimuth interval more effectively, since its optimization parameters are chosen from a larger search space. However, along with the phase shifters, it requires inserting transducers into the system hardware.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134471906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research, we employ a near field compensation block before the blocking matrix (of the GSC) to prevent signal leakage in the reference noise and a Linear Constrained Minimum Variance (LCMV) beamformer instead of blocking matrix to generalize the appropriate performance of the system for different arrival directions of desired speech. We also consider the application of the post-filters on the beamformer output. A modified version of McCowan post-filter is presented by calculating coherence function from microphone-array inputs. Considering similar idea, we also propose a multichannel version of Short-Time Spectral Amplitude (STSA) post-filter. Our evaluations clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed modifications in the enhancement of the noisy speech.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134534108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Improved depth maps coding efficiency of 3D videos","authors":"B. Micallef, C. J. Debono, R. Farrugia","doi":"10.5281/ZENODO.43144","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5281/ZENODO.43144","url":null,"abstract":"Immersive 3D video services demand the transmission of the viewpoints' depth map together with the texture multiview video to allow arbitrary reconstruction of intermediate viewpoints required for free-view navigation and 3D depth perception. The Multi-view Video Coding (MVC) standard is generally used to encode these auxiliary depth maps and since their estimation process is highly computational intensive, the coding time increases. This paper proposes a technique that exploits the multi-view geometry together with the depth map itself to calculate more accurate initial compensation vectors for the Macro-blocks' estimation. Starting from a more accurate position allows for a smaller search area, reducing the computations required during depth map MVC. Furthermore, the SKIP mode is extended to predict also the disparity vectors from the neighborhood encoded vectors, to omit some of them from transmission. Results demonstrate that these modifications provide an average computational reduction of up-to 87% with a bitrate saving of about 8.3% while encoding an inter-view predicted viewpoint from a depth map multi-view video.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133319259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A virtual CAN is a multi-domain overlay network based on light virtualization, provisioned to enable customized treatment of data flows and especially media streams. While it uses legacy QoS technologies, such as core IP/MPLS/Diffserv in the core routers, it proposes a new edge router, called MANE (Media Aware Network Element), CAN capable. This paper presents a modular MANE implementation solution using off-the-shelf hardware and open source software like Click modular router to implement flow classification, MPLS encapsulation and decapsulation, separation between VCANs, and QoS enforcement with Linux TC (traffic control) mechanism. Based on performance measurements, it is shown that the implementation imposes minor overheads over existing routing infrastructure and scalability is achievable.","PeriodicalId":201182,"journal":{"name":"2012 Proceedings of the 20th European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132072229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
