It is found that the SW in the discrete model is stable, as well as in its earlier studied continuum counterpart. In a strongly discrete case, the dependence of the SWs velocity upon the amplitude of the energy-carrying background is found to obey a simple linear law, which differs by a value of the proportionality coefficient from a similar law in the continuum model. For the underdamped case, the velocity of the shock wave is found to be vanishing along with the viscosity constant. We argue that the latter feature is universal for long but finite systems, both discrete and continuum. The dependence of the SW's width on the parameters of the system is also discussed.
","PeriodicalId":20079,"journal":{"name":"Physical review. It has become an established technique for analyzing molecular dynamics simulations of proteins. The first few principal components of simulations of large proteins often resemble cosines. We derive the principal components for high-dimensional random diffusion, which are almost perfect cosines. This resemblance between protein simulations and noise implies that for many proteins the time scales of current simulations are too short to obtain convergence of collective motions.
","PeriodicalId":20079,"journal":{"name":"Physical review. We find that a spatiotemporal chaotic state (phase turbulence) emerges immediately above onset, which we investigate as a function of the reduced control parameter epsilon. In particular we find that the correlation length for the vertical velocity field, the time averaged convective current, and the mean square vorticity have power law behaviors near onset, with exponents given by -1/2, 1, and 5/2 respectively. We also find that the time averaged vertical velocity and vertical vorticity fields have the same (disordered) spatial characteristics as the corresponding instantaneous patterns for these fields, and that there is no long-term phase correlation in the system. Finally, we present simple theoretical explanations for the time averaged convective current as a function of the control parameter, and for the fact that the time dependence of three global quantities (characterizing the dissipation of kinetic energy, the release of internal energy by buoyancy, and entropy flow) is essentially the same.
","PeriodicalId":20079,"journal":{"name":"Physical review. The model treats ion dynamics using fluid equations, including all time-dependent terms. Model predictions for current, impedance, and power were compared to measurements performed in high-density discharges in argon at 1.33 Pa (10 mTorr) at rf bias frequencies from 0.1 to 10 MHz (omega/omega(i) from 0.006 to 1.8) and rf bias voltages from 1 to 200 V. Model predictions were in good agreement with measurements, much better than that obtained by models that neglect time-dependent ion dynamics. In particular, differences of as much as 40-50 % between power measurements and the power predicted by previous models are now explained and eliminated. The model also explains why methods of extracting plasma parameters from electrical measurements using previous sheath models may fail, and it suggests more accurate methods of extracting these parameters.
","PeriodicalId":20079,"journal":{"name":"Physical review. Rev. E 48, 4364 (1993)] provided that gravity alone is taken into account. In such lattice-gas models of cohesionless and frictionless particles, the compaction and segregation phenomena appear as purely nonequilibrium effects unrelated to the Boltzmann-Gibbs measure, which in this case is trivial. They provide a natural framework in which slow relaxation phenomena in granular and glassy systems can be explained in terms of a common microscopic mechanism given by a free-volume kinetic constraint.
","PeriodicalId":20079,"journal":{"name":"Physical review. Spin-1 aggregation model in one dimension 一维自旋-1聚合模型

We mapped the water and amphiphilic molecules by Ising spin variables for S=1. The zero component of spin represents the water molecules, while the remaining components (+/-1) account for the amphiphilic molecules. We defined an aggregate in one dimension by a set of spin components (+/-1) placed between two zero spin components. There is no difference between up and down components of the spins inside the aggregates. In this way what really matters is the square of the spin component. The grand-canonical partition function and the probability of formation of different aggregate sizes were calculated by the transfer matrix method. We have shown that for any value of the chemical potential and temperature, the system does not exhibit the typical aggregate size distribution which is observed in micellar solutions at low concentrations. The distribution curve for the aggregate size does not show the minimum and the maximum as a function of the concentration which is the signature of the appearance of micelles. We can say that this one-dimensional model does not present any phase transition nor a transition from the micellar to nonmicellar state.
","PeriodicalId":20079,"journal":{"name":"Physical review.
