The design of a novel mechanism utilizes hybrid magnetic and fluid mechanism to achieve two goals: 1) sufficient damping, 2) balancing the weight of the carrier utilizing buoyancy of fluid and achieving low power consumption. The novel mechanism and electromagnetic actuators are combined and the overall dynamic model is also derived. The positioner presented herein shows a large travel range of 3 mm times 3 mm times 4 mm with a positioning resolution of plusmn10 mum, which is close to the limit of the equipped sensors. We demonstrate the satisfactory performance of the positioner, with precision, theoretical analysis and experimental results.","PeriodicalId":199609,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2007 - 33rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"207 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123064148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In comparison with conventional VSDO, the high-order VSDO requires a small switching gain for ensuring the existence of a sliding mode, thus diminishing the chattering phenomenon further. Two high-order VSDOs were implemented to simultaneously observing the motor-side and the load-side disturbances in a harmonic drive actuator. Experimental results show that the compensation provided by the high-order VSDOs effectively deals with the disturbances due to harmonic drive gearing.","PeriodicalId":199609,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2007 - 33rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125955725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The precise positioner is composed of monolithic parallel flexure mechanism, horizontal and vertical electromagnetic actuators, and optical displacement sensors to achieve the 6-DOF motion. The concept of the system intends to achieve three goals: 1) large travel range, 2) high precision positioning, and 3) fast response. In our system, there are eight sets of permanent magnets attached to the moving platform, and eight sets of electromagnets mounted on the bottom platen. The whole control architecture is to take the six posture data measured by the six optical displacement sensors first and then to control the 6-DOF motion by regulating the current in the electromagnetic actuators. For the purpose of system robustness and stability, an adaptive sliding-mode controller is proposed to validate the system performance. The developed robust adaptive control architecture consists of two components: 1) sliding mode controller, 2) adaptive law. From the simulation and experimental results, satisfactory performances of the hereby developed system, including stiffness and precision, have been successfully demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":199609,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2007 - 33rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115538635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The palms of the robot hands are used to manipulate the object. Tactile sensors with the functions of acquiring the tactual images and sensing the forces from the arrayed sensing elements were manufactured for these experiments. To rotate the object, the robot hand holds it with both palms. The use of the tactile sensors are able to manipulate an object between both hand, although it is difficult for the hand with force sensor to do a rolling manipulation of an object. The tactile sensing system distinguish the pattern of an object's posture, a direction of the hand manipulation, the supporting force of the hand and a trajectory of the hand. The experiments for rolling the object of a square pillar and a sphere are succeeded by two sets of robot hand.","PeriodicalId":199609,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2007 - 33rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129004131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Solder bump is used as an electrical junction of these packages, and they cannot be observed from outside. X- ray fluoroscopy is used as inspection method. It cannot evaluate the shape of solder bump correctly because information is compressed along the ray. The oblique CT is considered as a method for accurately examining the shape of the solder bump. Conventional oblique CT still has the speed and mechanical constraint, and it cannot be introduced into the soldering line. In this paper, we propose the novel oblique CT system that can non- destructively obtain the 3D shape of solder bump at a high-speed. This system obtains the projection images from various directions using the rotational transfer of flat panel detector and the fixed mounted open-type X-ray generator that has a wide radiation angle, and reconstructs 3D image using the 3D FBP (Filtered Back Projection) method. In addition, we have developed the reconstruction acceleration unit for oblique CT, and thus the 3D image is obtained in the real time. In our experiments, we evaluated the solder joints of BGA mounted substrate. The result demonstrated that the proposed system obtained the information that was able to determine the good or defective situation in soldering. This system is the world's first CT system, which can be introduced into the soldering line, and it is operated by more than 20 domestic and foreign factories now.","PeriodicalId":199609,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2007 - 33rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121315305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm takes into account the real nonlinear system as a model of a hybrid system, which is based on building a tree of evolution. Where the branch & bound (B&B) technique is applied for discrete controls in which an embedded nonlinear programming approach (Pattern search) is associated with each node of the tree in order to provide the continuous controls and explore the tree. Once the whole nodes of the tree are explored, the corresponding input is exploited to the system and the procedure is repeated. The performance of the resulting predictive control system is demonstrated on a motorboat simulation case study.","PeriodicalId":199609,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2007 - 33rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115325480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method has the same effectiveness as that of Smith predictor and the validity has been experimentally verified. Furthermore, the advantage of the method is that it works without delay time model. However, whereas the method has been practically applied in several situations, the robustness has never been studied so far. In this paper, we present robustness of the time delayed control systems with the time delay compensation method. Some problems caused by model uncertainty and constraint on cutoff frequency are firstly discussed. Then a time delayed control system with communication disturbance observer based on two- degree-of-freedom control structure is designed. The control system makes it possible to achieve zero steady-state error. Moreover, the transient response is designed easily by parameters of controllers. Here, the transient characteristic and the attenuation performance of model uncertainty can be designed separately. Simulation results verify the validity of the control system.","PeriodicalId":199609,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2007 - 33rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121711427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the promising applications is structural health monitoring of building or civil engineering structure and it often requires vibration measurement. For the vibration measurement via wireless network, time synchronization is indispensable. In this paper, we introduce a newly developed time synchronized wireless sensor network system. The system employs IEEE 802.11 standard based TSF counter and sends the measured data with the counter value. It enables consistency on common clock among different wireless nodes. We describe the accuracy evaluation by simulation studies when the size of nodes increased. The hardware and software specifications of the developed wireless sensing system are shown.
