Thus, broadband network technologies with ability to be adaptable to user's context and application content must be considered. In this paper, we propose an on-the-fly resource reservation protocol for medical multimedia content delivery in cognitive radio networks. Our approach is based on an appropriate channels switching, that meets the need of end-to-end video quality and throughput requirements for better clinicians analysis. When a channel switching must be performed, an appropriate channel is reserved. This process will also rely on a signalling protocol which allows transmitting traffic characteristics and required network resources to all relay nodes for a best decision-making.","PeriodicalId":199195,"journal":{"name":"2014 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131001049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The solutions developed to support the new HEVC/H.265 features are shown together with the achieved performance. The HEVC/H.265 decoder complexity has been evaluated and the most demanding modules have been optimized with Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) instructions. Even though the here described approach has a general meaning, the effectiveness of the proposed solutions has been demonstrated on ARM architecture. In particular, we have selected the Cortex A9 processor with NEON SIMD extension. We will demonstrate that the resulting HEVC/H.265 application can decode in real-time 720p (1280×720) streams at 30 frames per second on a single core ARMv7 at 1.2 GHz.","PeriodicalId":199195,"journal":{"name":"2014 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132479949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The newly deployed 802.11e protocol provides QoS in WLANs. However there are some vulnerability in it. This paper analyzed the 802.11e protocol for QoS support in WLANs and two new covert channels are proposed. These proposed covert channels provide signalling method in order to have reliable communication. The proposed covert channels have no impact on normal traffic pattern, thus it cannot be detected by monitoring traffic pattern.","PeriodicalId":199195,"journal":{"name":"2014 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"204 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132941327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several blocks used in a typical receiver part of the NFC reader; such as a mixer, an envelope detector (or a low pass filter), a Low Pass Analog-to-Digital Converter (LP-ADC), and finally a Phase-Locked-Loop (PLL). These four blocks, especially PLL and ADC, are power hungry because of over-sampling required to obtain reasonable Signal-to-Noise-Ratio (SNR) for a NFC device. The proposed receiver architecture uses a Band-Pass (BP) Delta-Sigma ADC and trimmed crystal oscillator in order to obtain direct conversion of the received NFC signal with its carrier.","PeriodicalId":199195,"journal":{"name":"2014 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125353032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Users and jammers follow the given policies to randomly select channels at each time slot. The whole system can be modeled as a Markov chain. The key point is to derive the transition probability matrix and obtain the stationary distribution. Then, the theoretical system throughput can be computed straightforwardly. Another interesting problem is to study the system failure probability for the scenario where each user pair has multiple links. The network model is modified as: m user pairs share a spectrum set θU and each user pair has c links. System failure happens when at least one user pair fails all of its links. A two-step approach is developed to compute the system failure probability for the modified model. Numerical experiments are used to validate theoretical results.","PeriodicalId":199195,"journal":{"name":"2014 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"26 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126051934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, energy efficiency is an important requirement in applications where battery-powered sensing devices are exploited. Battery power saving can be addressed using many techniques, concerning different layers of the OSI model. This work addresses energy consumption in MAC protocols from a transceiver usage perspective. We first describe a set of protocols that includes IEEE 802.15.4 and IEEE 802.15.4e DSME. Then, we analyze their energy consumption and propose a set of Enhancements for Low-Power Instrumentation DSME Applications. Finally, given a wireless network topology, we compare the performance of the above mentioned protocols by simulations. Obtained results show that, for end devices, the proposed approach allows an energy consumption reduction up to a factor of 9 with respect to the IEEE 802.15.4, while enabling for higher throughput, and up to a factor of 7 with regard to native IEEE 802.15.4e DSME.","PeriodicalId":199195,"journal":{"name":"2014 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127109079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, highly accurate indoor localization by smartphones remains an open problem. In this paper, we present WiFi iLocate - a system that can help track the location and movement of a smartphone user in indoor environments. The system applies Gaussian process regression to train the collected WiFi received signal strength (RSS) dataset, and particle filter for the estimation of the smartphone user's location and movement. Simulations were conducted in MATLAB to test the performance and provide more insights of the proposed approach. The experiments carried with an iOS device in typical library environment illustrate that our system is an accurate, real-time, press-to-go system.","PeriodicalId":199195,"journal":{"name":"2014 Wireless Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130882524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
