Content analysis was adopted for the study while 608 hard copies of the Daily Sun and The Nation newspapers published during the period were examined. The study was situated in the framing theory which posits that the media give salience to issues in a manner to shape public opinion. Data were collected and presented in tables were analysed with the Chi-square statistical tool. Findings show that there were significant differences in the frequency and prominence in the framing of the anti-corruption war by the newspapers. The study recommends that mainstream media organisations should review their editorial policies to increase the frequency and prominence in their framing of the anti-corruption war to help mitigate the consequences of corruption on the socio-economic and political development of the country.","PeriodicalId":198402,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Development and Economic Sustainability","volume":"3 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113980291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nigeria’s population and that of Akwa Ibom State is currently (July, 2022) estimated at about 206 and 7 million respectively with a progressive average growth rate of 3.5 percent per annum. Out of this number, while more than 35 percent at the national level, over 52 percent of the youth in Akwa Ibom State are unemployed. This situation, as the paper observed, is occasioned by crucial factors ranging from the poor state of the economy and educational standard, poor attitude to agriculture, poor enabling and secured environment, scarcity of data on informal employment and entrepreneurship, poor economic growth rate and wrong impression about technical and vocational education. Furthermore, the paper noted that the prevailing unemployment among youth in Akwa Ibom State has engendered high rate of social vices such as prostitution, armed robbery, oil bunkering, internet fraud, drug trafficking and addiction, rape, kidnapping, political thuggery, assassination and other acts of criminalities. For the way forward, the paper proffered, among others, that the Akwa Ibom State government should redesigned the education sector to become technology-based in order to enhance skill acquisition for self-employment as well as encourage the youth to embrace agriculture as a profitable business venture. Moreover, honest effort should be made towards revitalizing the moribund and ailing industries in the state.","PeriodicalId":198402,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Development and Economic Sustainability","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128828640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Security offers some degree of certainty which enables people to set goals and invest in their future and that of their children. It also encourages innovation, strengthens social connections and build trust in others and in institutions. The idea is that the more secured a nation is, the easier it is to carry out economic activities which further translates to economic development both local and international. This paper examines the prominent role national security plays in the area of foreign direct investment and economic development in Nigeria. The study aims at providing empirical evidence on the impact of national security on foreign direct investment and economic development in Nigeria. Ordinary least squares (OLS) technique was used in estimating the structural parameters in the equation, we conclude that insecurity is a threat to development because it produces economic stagnation. We recommend that government at all levels and key actors in policy formulation should adopt the culture of transparency such that funds allocated to the security sector are effectively utilized for equipping the security system to meet 21st century standard.","PeriodicalId":198402,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Development and Economic Sustainability","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126468330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, the study focused on the impact of trade openness on the growth of solid mineral Sub-sector in Nigeria from 1981 to 2020. The study employed Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) as the modeling technique. Solid mineral subsector (SLM) was used as the dependent variable while Trade openness (TPN), Foreign direct investment (FDI), Foreign portfolio investment (PFI), Remittances (RMT) constituted the independent variables. Exchange rate (EXR) was used as check variable. The study found that TPN, FPI, RMT and EXR negatively influenced the solid mineral sub-sector. FDI maintained a positive relationship with SLM. Based on these findings, the paper recommended that government should extend the tax exemption period for companies exploiting solid minerals beyond the existing three years to attract foreign investors into the sub-sector. Also, government should adequately regulate the mining sub-sector to attract portfolio investment and foreign remittances into the sector.","PeriodicalId":198402,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Development and Economic Sustainability","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116034282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extending the resource-based view (RBV), a traditional perspective approach is espoused to trigger scholarly discussions, pining the development of research fronts on Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) in addressing small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) financing constraints. This paper suggests that, despite the operational challenges of blockchains and the necessity to focus on core business activities, BaaS is promising, with significant efforts in terms of cost-savings, efficiency, and reliability with reduced risks. This study provides insight on BaaS contributions to fostering entrepreneurial finance as well as contributing to the literature on the accomplishments of BaaS within BcSCF provisions for particularly Ghanaian SMEs. Therefore, detailed studies into the viability of technologically-enabled types of SME finance are essential, necessitating more research. Resultantly, some forward-thinking research issues for researchers in the disciplines of innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, finance, and decision science have been presented.","PeriodicalId":198402,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Development and Economic Sustainability","volume":"387 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123242053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper, therefore, intends to assess the effects of coronavirus on Africa economies. (using its growth implication) Based on the endogenous growth theoretical approach, the link between life expectancy, poverty incidence, and economic growth was estimated using the GMM technique of analysis with 32 selected Africa countries. Findings showed that coronavirus exhibited negative and substantial impact on socio-economic situation and macroeconomic variables in Africa such as inflation, unemployment, poverty rate and economic growth, amongst others. The result ascertained that the government expenditure significantly increased during the period in a bid to curb the pandemic, but household welfare degenerated and was negatively affected with high poverty rate, this paper recommended that the government of the Africa countries should diversify the revenue base of their economies to cushion the effect of unprecedented shock due to the pandemic and provide adequate relief materials to pad the effect of loss of income to the poor and vulnerable, support in the implementation of structural reforms to enable them to build capacity and generate sufficient domestic resources or fiscal buffers to effectively manage pandemics.","PeriodicalId":198402,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Development and Economic Sustainability","volume":"165 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133594486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since 1970, the volume of world trade has grown by around 7% yearly. The Nigerian industrial sector after experiencing boom in the first two decades after Nigeria’s independence, has suffered from low productivity afterwards. Therefore, this study examined the impact of globalization on Nigeria industrial sector performance from 1986 - 2017. The study utilized secondary data from the Central Bank Statistical Bulletin (CBN), and National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The data were analyzed using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), Error Correction Model, ADF Unit root test, Johansen Co-integration test, Cholesky variance decomposition test. The findings of this study show that “free-trade” which came as a result of globalization has a not impacted Nigeria industrial output enough to trigger economic growth and also, that Nigeria depends so much on imported products which have made the industrial sector weak and unable to compete with her foreign counterparts. The study also revealed that globalization has led to the stagnation of Nigeria’s Manufacturing index. This implies that the cost of globalization for Nigeria have outweighed its benefits, hence; the study concluded that globalization has done more harm than good to Nigerian economy. The study recommends that Nigeria should put in place an industrial policy which should create enabling business environment within the country by providing incentives to manufacturers, ensuring regular and uninterrupted power supply as well as promoting agriculture.","PeriodicalId":198402,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Development and Economic Sustainability","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124873832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
