EnglishThis exploratory research aimed to (1) assess the psychosocial variables of Brazilian Paralympic athletes, (2) verify how these variables relate to the athlete’s social identity, and (3) understand how Paralympic athletes perceive their identity. The study consisted of 153 Brazilian Paralympic athletes (122 males and 31 females with a mean age of 31.91 years, SD = 9.46), who answered a socio-demographic questionnaire; the instruments of the variables under study: (1) self-esteem, (2) self-efficacy, (3) locus of control, (4) affective well-being, and (5) social identity; and the open question «For me, being a Paralympic athlete means...» The results indicated that Paralympic athletes have high levels of social identity, self-esteem, self-efficacy, internal locus of control, and positive affective well-being, as well as low levels of external locus of control and negative affective well-being. Also, a positive correlation between social identity and self-esteem was found. The results revealed that Paralympic athletes’ identity is directly linked to their history of self-realization and the benefits of playing sports; however, they must still face some obstacles. This study highlights the importance of Paralympic athletes’ social identity, which benefits them not only as individuals, but through the deconstruction of stereotypes attributed to them by society.","PeriodicalId":198006,"journal":{"name":"LIBERABIT. Participants included 332 Peruvian university students (82.83% women), aged between 16 and 48 years (M = 20.39). The main analysis was performed using the unweighted least squares method with oblique Procrustes rotation and fully specified matrix. The analysis results showed that both brief versions had robust psychometric properties: an adequate factor structure and empirical equivalence with the original BFI. Finally, the two versions displayed acceptable reliability indexes as well (αaverage > .60). In conclusion, both versions show favorable psychometric indicators that would enable their use in basic and group research.","PeriodicalId":198006,"journal":{"name":"LIBERABIT. EnglishThe goals of this study are to develop local standards for the TEPSI Psychomotor Development Test for Argentine children and to contrast the level of psychomotor development and its growth rate between the Argentine and Chilean samples used for standardization of the instrument. Two hundred and five children aged 3 to 5 years attending public daycare centers in the province of Mendoza were evaluated. The internal consistency of the test was addressed and item-subtest correlations were calculated. Additionally, an analysis of variance (ANOVA) with a priori contrast was used, T-scores per age group were calculated, and Cohen’s d was estimated to assess the magnitude of the differences found between the contrasted samples. The TEPSI displayed adequate psychometric properties as well as high sensitivity to assess age differences in children’s psychomotor development. Argentine pre-school children showed better psychomotor performance when compared to their Chilean peers, in a context where both groups displayed different developmental rates. These results highlight the importance of developing updated TEPSI local standards that consider the socio-cultural features of each country, with a view to obtaining an accurate and reliable assessment of children’s psychomotor development.","PeriodicalId":198006,"journal":{"name":"LIBERABIT.
