Technology can be used to improve the quality of life of people with PD [2], [3]. For example, the monitoring of involuntary tremors in the patient's extremities that allows doctors to identify the degree of progress of the disease and make adjustments to the pharmacological treatment, providing an improvement in their quality of life. This project seeks to help people with PD through the use of technology to monitor tremors, using a system based on electronics and the Internet of Things (IoT). For this, a prototype is developed that allows monitoring the frequency and intensity of tremors, which is based on low-cost electronic devices, such as accelerometers, sensors, microcontrollers.","PeriodicalId":197762,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Medical Engineering Physics Exchanges/ Pan American Health Care Exchanges (GMEPE/PAHCE)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123747801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its usefulness is based on the fact that tissues having some pathologies are generally more rigid than the surrounding healthy tissues. Shear wave elastography is a technique based on measuring the speed of propagation of these shear waves through biological tissue to determine its elasticity, and thus determine if there is any pathology. This article presents an analysis using the finite element method to measure the propagation speed of shear waves at different frequencies (50, 200, 500 and 1000 Hz) through a multilayer geometry that simulates the upper right side of the cutaway stomach. In the graphs we obtained at several frequencies, the shear wave propagation speed increases as the tissue stiffness increases. With this result, we will be able to predict the health of a muscle based on its elasticity measurement.","PeriodicalId":197762,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Medical Engineering Physics Exchanges/ Pan American Health Care Exchanges (GMEPE/PAHCE)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122102031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It serves to know the physical fitness state and to identify skills that can be improved with a specific exercise program. There are few works that relate the results of these tests and their interaction with the efficiency in performing the fundamental motor gesture. In this work, 40 athletes are evaluated through tests of body composition, anaerobic power, balance control and isokinetic muscle strength. The results of the evaluations are grouped in what is proposed as a characteristic vector of the athlete and a new EK index is proposed to evaluate the efficiency of the front kick (Cut). The athlete characteristic vector is used as input values in an artificial neural network (ANN). The EK index is proposed to stratify the output of the ANN, by ordering the athletes and classify them into 4 levels of physical aptitude: perfectible, average, good and optimum. To validate the ANN, a linear regression analysis is used, obtaining a value of R=0.91 and a classification of 100%. This high percentage is due to the homogeneity of the sample as they are high-performance athletes.","PeriodicalId":197762,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Medical Engineering Physics Exchanges/ Pan American Health Care Exchanges (GMEPE/PAHCE)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124362965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the selection of these materials can have mechanical implications that affect the performance of the exoskeleton in the chosen application. This paper proposes a testing protocol to assess the mechanical and structural features of a prototype upper limb robotic exoskeleton using an optical motion capture system as the primary measurement instrument. In addition to the protocol, a literature review is presented, laying the ground for the theoretical development of the mechanical evaluation for prototypes. Also, the materials used concerning the evaluation technologies required for data collection and assessment of the devices are described. The development and future application of this protocol will enable the identification of the relevant motion parameters on the exoskeleton prototype, the changes that its structure may experience due to the use of the flexible materials, and the effectiveness of the mechanical support provided in the upper limb. Finally, the proposed protocol can be extended to other types of robotic exoskeletons built with similar materials, regardless of their final application, extending its applicability to other study cases.","PeriodicalId":197762,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Medical Engineering Physics Exchanges/ Pan American Health Care Exchanges (GMEPE/PAHCE)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115471249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So that, not only helps in daily tasks but also help reduce the energy required in any task. Due to the high percentage of amputees around the world, it is important to develop prostheses that fit in their needs. Energy cost in a lower limb amputee can be quantified by indirect calorimetry by measuring oxygen consumption during walking or climbing stairs. This work is a review of the background of the type of prostheses developed to date and their relation with energy cost in lower limb amputees.","PeriodicalId":197762,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Medical Engineering Physics Exchanges/ Pan American Health Care Exchanges (GMEPE/PAHCE)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133226081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a previous study, in Puno city at 3800 m.a.s.l., it was found an error above 15.0% (minimum tolerance) in the tidal volume, for which a negative correction of 25.0% was applied. In the present study, a Masi ventilator was transported to Chachapoyas city, at an altitude of 2400 m.a.s.l. to continue evaluating the effect of altitude on the parameters of the device. Once there, ventilators were acclimated and calibrated. Tidal volume, inspiration-expiration ratio (I:E), positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP), peak inspiratory flow (PIF) and peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) were tested, and the maximum percentages errors presented were 13.5% and 13.9% in the tidal volume and the PIF, respectively. For that reason, although errors were under 15.0%, an update of the software of Masi was needed, applying a negative correction of 14.0%. Then, the parameters were tested again obtaining results with errors below 6.0% and 8.0% in volume controlled an pressure controlled ventilation modes, respectively. These results allowed the use of the Masi ventilator at ICU area. Finally, a software update for the Masi ventilator is performed by applying a linear equation that relates altitudes and percentage errors tested.","PeriodicalId":197762,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Medical Engineering Physics Exchanges/ Pan American Health Care Exchanges (GMEPE/PAHCE)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132315248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the criteria of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health and the guide of the American Physiotherapy Association, a framework is identified for the management of clinical information of the patient in physiotherapy, and the design and implementation of a web platform is presented, which allows the management of electronic medical records. In addition to the information management by the therapists, the platform called MovGis allows the patient to execute the therapy through the interaction with active video games, and precise quantitative data associated with joint amplitude are simultaneously captured. The reports generated offer organized, structured, quantitative and timely information to support decision-making by professionals in charge of motor rehabilitation processes for patients. It is concluded that the platform is a tool that allows an adequate handling and management of the information of the physical rehabilitation process and that it offers quantitative data for timely decision making.","PeriodicalId":197762,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Medical Engineering Physics Exchanges/ Pan American Health Care Exchanges (GMEPE/PAHCE)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122851822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oncological hyperthermia is a treatment where the temperature of the tumor rises between 40°C - 45°C for a time between 60 min. - 90 min. Hyperthermia Treatment Planning (HTP) is used to predict energy absorption patterns and temperature distributions, through a specific configuration of the applicators. Therefore, it is necessary to know the position of the radiofrequency (RF) applicators that will be used. In this work the coordinates (x, y, z & θ) of the vertices of two non-functional RF applicators used in the emulation of a hyperthermia treatment were obtained through a 3D reconstruction based on photographs. 250 images were used to obtain the 3D reconstruction using the algorithm Structure from Motion (SfM). Obtaining a minimum error rate of 17.35% between the actual distance of the applicators and the 3D reconstruction of these. Subsequently, in Matlab, the vertices coordinates (x, y, z & θ) of both applicators were obtained in approximately 5 minutes. This information will be used in a modeling software to know the interaction of the energy provided by the applicators to aid in a future implementation of a HTP.","PeriodicalId":197762,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Medical Engineering Physics Exchanges/ Pan American Health Care Exchanges (GMEPE/PAHCE)","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132168838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This project intends to evaluate the possibility of the impregnation of copper particles as an active element to eliminate viruses and bacteria, which in contact with cotton conventional masks have a survival rate of up to 72 h. In contact with copper particles, those microorganisms survive, approximately, for 1 h. Therefore, the main objective of this work was to evaluate a production process of impregnation of copper particles in nonwoven fabric (TNT). To do so, we isolated copper particles from copper sulfate solution with constant heating, simultaneously impregnating pieces of TNT cut from commercial disposable protective masks. We performed SEM and EDS analysis to evaluate the impregnation and particle sizes. Visually, the pieces were partially impregnated which was confirmed by the SEM images where one can see only some fibers covered by the particles. Also, it is possible to notice that the size of the particles was at microscale with some agglomeration. The EDS confirmed 1.1% by mass of copper particles in the sample. The procedure was easy to follow and at a low-cost being, therefore, possible to be implemented after some parameter adjustments.","PeriodicalId":197762,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Medical Engineering Physics Exchanges/ Pan American Health Care Exchanges (GMEPE/PAHCE)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123651343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
