The unit cell of the metasurface is composed of rectangular patch element. Based on the generalized laws of reflection, by discontinuous phase difference, abnormal reflection is realized. The thickness of the dielectric substrate is 3 mm. By calculating and optimizing the length and width of the patch element, 12 basis elements are selected, and the phase difference is 30 degrees. The reflection amplitude of every element is greater than 0.9. Based on the patch elements, a supercell that is arranged in a 12 by 12 array is realized. The size of the metasurface is 180 mm × 180 mm. Under normal incidence, at 5 GHz, the main lobe is deflected about negative 41 degrees away from the normal direction as was expected. Thereby, the main lobe of the mirror is effectively suppressed. The directional scattering properties of the proposed matesurface when environment temperature is high are also considered. The environmental temperature affects the electromagnetic parameters of the pattern layer and the dielectric layer. The simulation is performed and the results show an acceptable agreement with the numerical calculation. Metasurfaces realized with rectangular patch have the advantages in design and manufacture.","PeriodicalId":197451,"journal":{"name":"2019 Photonics & Electromagnetics Research Symposium - Fall (PIERS - Fall)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125407874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is widely known that calibration technology becomes more difficult in this low signal to noise ratio situation especially. After a great number of experiments, this paper puts forward a new calibration method of broadband radar system at a high grazing angle, in other words, we choose calibrate toward radar system on the ground. In free space situation, amplitude and phase of metal ball is easily obtained, target’s RCS at a high grazing angle is also achieved with revised coefficient according to the metal ball. The experiments results present that this method meets accurate calibration precision and field variation in metal ball area is well-distribute. The structure of ring resonator such as split ring resonator (SRR) as well as its complementary could sometimes implemented for fulfilling specification of EM wave absorber requirement. In this paper, the experimental characterization of SRR-based multilayer X-band wave absorber is presented. The working frequency of wave absorber is focused on 9.5 GHz intended for X-band radar application. The proposed X-band wave absorber which is developed on multilayer of 1.6mm thick FR4 epoxy dielectric substrates is designed using a unit cell composed of SRR and thin strip with the dimension of 3.5mm × 3.5 mm. Some attempts to enhance the characteristics of X-band wave absorber are carried out by inserting an air gap between the SRR structure on the top of first layer and the thin strip on the top of third layer. The characterization result shows that realized X-band wave absorber could achieve the reflection coefficient value up to −42.5dB which is similar to the performance of commercialized absorbent material with the reflection coefficient of −42.9 dB.","PeriodicalId":197451,"journal":{"name":"2019 Photonics & Electromagnetics Research Symposium - Fall (PIERS - Fall)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126957659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frequency band or part of it is used by many applications, e.g., Professional Mobile Radio/Public Access Mobile Radio (PMR/PAMR) in European countries. To introduce a new generation evolving public cellular networks, e.g., Long Term Evolution (LTE)/New Radio (NR) in the 450 MHz band the appropriate electromagnetic compatibility studies shall be performed. The aim of this study is to evaluate the electromagnetic compatibility of mobile service and Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) service operating in adjacent frequency channels. The minimum Coupling Loss (MCL) and Monte Carlo methods were used in order to investigate interference level. The obtained results identify the minimum separation distance required between mobile service LTE/NR stations and DVB-T and DVB-T2 in order to avoid the harmful interference.","PeriodicalId":197451,"journal":{"name":"2019 Photonics & Electromagnetics Research Symposium - Fall (PIERS - Fall)","volume":"260 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115593623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relativistic backward wave oscillator (RBWO) is considered to be a promising device for the future application among many kinds of microwave sources due to its potential of large power capacity, high beam-wave interaction efficiency and good operation stability. With decades of development, the HPM system nearly operates at its limiting parameters of all aspects (cathode, high frequency structure, electron beam collector and microwave output window). Among these limitation factors, The Radio Frequency breakdown (RF breakdown) of the slow wave structures (SWSs), which will lead to the generation of the RF breakdown plasma, is an important cause for pulse shortening and power decaying in RBWOs.Although many researchers have performed some valuable studies about this issue, further researches of the influence mechanism of RF breakdown on the microwave generation are still needed.In this paper, we consider the RF breakdown plasma will influence the microwave generation in two ways. One is the plasma brought by RF breakdown will influence the quality of electron beam and absorb microwave energy. The other is the RF breakdown plasma will change the electrodynamic property of the SWSs in some degree by influencing the dispersion relation, which leads to the microwave sources operate at an improper condition. Theoretical analysis, numerical calculation and particle in cell (PIC) simulations are conducted to verify our conclusion. The results obtained are helpful in explaining the RF breakdown phenomenon physically and can provide some design guidance.","PeriodicalId":197451,"journal":{"name":"2019 Photonics & Electromagnetics Research Symposium - Fall (PIERS - Fall)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116013967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using advanced modulation scheme, such as PAM4, and adding more wavelengths are two directions to aggregate more bandwidth in a fiber. Either way requires high-sensitivity optical receivers to compensate reduced signal or additional link loss. Silicon photonic receivers by integrating silicon-germanium (Si-Ge) avalanche photodiodes (APDs) can improve the optical link budget and energy efficiency due to its internal multiplication gain. Conventional Si-Ge APDs with separate absorption charge multiplication (SACM) structures have demonstrated high gain-bandwidth product (GBP) thanks to the ideal impact ionization coefficient ratio of Si which is much lower than most III–V materials. By thinning the Si multiplication layer, the breakdown voltage can be reduced to as low as −10V, making it compatible with the power grids in data centers. Three-terminal Si-Ge APDs by separately controlling the electric fields in the Ge absorption and Si avalanche regions can further reduce the breakdown voltage to −6 V. Compared to conventional two-terminal SACM APDs, this structure requires no charge layer, making the device viable in the standard CMOS fabrication process where there is no epitaxial silicon layer. Here we demonstrate two Si-Ge APDs: a two-terminal waveguide-coupled Si-Ge APD with breakdown voltage of −10V, GBP of 276 GHz, open eye diagram at data rate of 64 Gb/s PAM4 and sensitivity of −16 dBm at data rate of 50 Gb/s PAM4, and a three-terminal waveguide-coupled Si-Ge APD with breakdown voltage of −6 V, bandwidth of 18.9 GHz, DC photocurrent gain of 15, open eye diagram at data rate of 35 Gb/s and sensitivity of −11.4 dBm at data rate of 25 Gb/s.","PeriodicalId":197451,"journal":{"name":"2019 Photonics & Electromagnetics Research Symposium - Fall (PIERS - Fall)","volume":"489 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122894771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed paper, an application of such a device, an RGB-D videosensor, is considered for capturing the motion of a walking person with the aim of numerical simulation of the microwave personnel screening system of a new kind. In such a microwave screening system the synthetic aperture, required for obtaining the radar image with high spatial resolution, is formed by subject’s natural motion in the vicinity of a sparse stationary antenna array. The radar image for the whole surface of the subject’s body is computed with the trajectories of the articulated body parts provided by the RGB-D sensor data using modern computer vision methods. This paper describes the numerical experiments in which the trajectories of body parts were captured using graphical markers attached to the body of a volunteer. The captured trajectories were used as the trajectories of foreign objects concealed under clothing to calculate the expected radar signal in user-defined antenna arrays. The processing of the radar signal was done with the trajectory of the foreign object taken into account by focusing the radar signal into the area defined around the foreign object, containing it, and moving with it as a whole. The described simulation technique allowed estimating the influence of the following modeling parameters on the resolution of the obtained radar images: the spatial configuration and quantity of transmit and receive antennas in the antenna array, the frequency band and bandwidth of the radar signal, the positioning of foreign objects on different parts of the human body, the length of the trajectory, and the positioning errors. The numerical simulations accomplished with the described technique are required for defining the technical requirements for the new microwave screening system, including the number of transmit and receive channels, the type of the antenna array (monostatic, quasi-monostatic, or multistatic), antenna spatial configuration. The demonstrated results help understanding the capabilities of such a microwave personnel screening system to properly form the radar images of concealed objects and its limitations.","PeriodicalId":197451,"journal":{"name":"2019 Photonics & Electromagnetics Research Symposium - Fall (PIERS - Fall)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122150263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
