This loss of substance creates breaches that can extend throughout the palatal vault, affecting the maxillary sinus, the nasal cavities, the floor of the orbit, and even the orbital cavities. The prosthetic management of these patients is in fact a complex task involving several immediate, secondary, and definitive stages. The transition from one stage to the next depends on a number of factors, including the post-surgical follow-up and the stage of healing. This article discusses, through a case report, the importance of the immediate obturator in preventing post-operative complications and its role in protecting the surgical site during the initial healing period.","PeriodicalId":197045,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Dental and Oral Health","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135854647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Contemporary society has been digitalized, and the habit of playing games has naturally migrated to the digital environment. The use of digital games in education, where they are known as serious games, has given rise to the introduction of new educational approaches for dental students and dentists, which complement traditional approaches. A brief conceptual outline of games can help broaden our understanding thereof in social and educational contexts. Objective: To report the designing and development of a serious game for decision-making in clinical case management in the field of dentistry, for use as a complementary teaching tool. Method: The method used was a case study to describe the development of the content and narrative of a Brazilian serious game for decision-making in the dental clinic, called Dental Case. A player in Dental Case takes on the role of a dentist during a consultation, with the mission of completing the steps of anamnesis, clinical examination, complementary examination, diagnosis, and treatment. The clinical cases presented in the game were designed to resemble real-life decision-making situations in the dental clinic of a primary healthcare setting. The content developed was reviewed and validated by specialists, from both a technical and pedagogical point of view, and then included in the game software by an information technology (IT) team. Results: Dental Case was developed from a set of clinical cases. The game targets dental professionals and students, and its goal is to lend support to the teaching of decision-making in the different stages of clinical care. The game is freely available on the web, and on the Play Store and Apple Store mobile application platforms. Conclusions: The resources made available by Dental Case constitute a new complementary pedagogical approach, and a tool for the application of educational technologies in dentistry, which can contribute to expanding the scale and reach of educational activities. Future research is warranted to investigate the effectiveness of Dental Case in promoting learning and should include an evaluation of its performance by its users.","PeriodicalId":197045,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Dental and Oral Health","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136062564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The altered dental aesthetic can significantly impact young adolescents’ quality of life and general well-being. This case describes a clinical method to address the aesthetic concern of a 14-year-old young adolescent with a displaced traumatized ankylosed tooth using a preformed transparent polypropylene thermoplastic template. This template allowed recontouring of the tooth in terms of shape and alignment. This method provides an inexpensive option to correct the contour and alignment of a tooth with minimal material wastage, shortening the clinical working time and pleasing aesthetic outcome. As clinicians, one should explore all options and possibilities to work out a solution for a problem. The preformed transparent polypropylene thermoplastic template is one such option that can be used to address dental aesthetics.","PeriodicalId":197045,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Dental and Oral Health","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135739097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Other than psychological loss there is also mechanical loss of bone with loss of teeth as alveolar bone is lost. Preservation of a couple of teeth can help in providing better retention and stability to dentures by minimizing bone loss and the use of mechanical aids on retained teeth for additional retention. The use of coping with attachment enhances the retention in the otherwise resorbed residual ridge. The single mandibular denture needs more stability also because of more amount of force from maxillary natural teeth. Thus, the denture can be strengthened by the use of additional mesh in the denture to compensate for the loss of acrylic in place where copings are placed. Case Report: This is a case of 58 year old female with a partially edentulous mandible. The fixed prosthesis was lost recently. The transition to a complete denture with minimal mandibular ridge was difficult. So, the preservation of the roots of the remaining teeth was planned for mandibular overdenture. Treatment Plan: Copings with attachments on bilateral canines were planned. The remaining teeth were given metal housings. The denture was reinforced with metal mesh to bear the maxillary forces from natural teeth. Conclusion: a single mandibular overdenture with copings and attachments increases the retention and stability of the prosthesis and also gives psychological comfort to the patient for the preservation of natural teeth.","PeriodicalId":197045,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Dental and Oral Health","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135689093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: A systematic review was carried out by three reviewers in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. All clinical trials, observational studies, in vitro and ex vivo studies, case reports, and case series that reported the use of CBCT to create guides for dental post removal up to July 2023 were eligible for inclusion. The quality of the included studies was assessed by the reviewers using the CARE guidelines and the QUIN tool. A predetermined template was used to extract data regarding the participant characteristics, printer, materials, software, and clinical parameters of the procedure. Results: A total of nine studies were included. Of those, seven were case reports and two were in vitro studies. All the included publications showed that the use of guided endodontics was effective in the removal of the post. Complications were observed in only two cases. Studies showed variability among the techniques used, but all were successful. Accuracy was reported in only two studies. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this review, guided endodontics showed to be an effective technique for the removal of dental posts with a low risk of iatrogenic errors. The quality and amount of available evidence is still low. Future well-designed studies are essential to establish these findings.","PeriodicalId":197045,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Dental and Oral Health","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135689089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the microhardness of different brands of bulk fill resin. In order to perform the research, 30 specimens were prepared, with group 1 with 10 specimens of the conventional composite resin Opallis (FGM). Group 2 with 10 specimens of Oppus Bulk Fill composite resin (FGM). And group 3 with 10 specimens of the Tetric N-Ceram Bulk fill resin (Ivoclar Vivadent), all made from a preset silicon matrix. Each group was photopolymerized on the upper surface at the time indicated by the manufacturer, stored in an oven with distilled water under 37 ° C for 24 hours. After this period, they were measured with a digital caliper and submitted to the Vickers microhardness test at 5 random points on the upper surface. The values recorded by the microdurometer were taken to the statistical analysis using ANOVA test with Tukey post-test, in which it showed a statistical difference between Bulk fill Tetric N-Ceram (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Opallis (FGM) with p value<0.001, and a statistical difference between Bulk Fill Tetric N-Ceram (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Opus Bulk Fill (FGM) with a p value of 0.001. There was no difference between Opallis and Opus Bulk fill (FGM). It was concluded that Bulk Fill Tetric N- Ceram resin (Ivoclar Vivadent) obtained a lower microhardness when compared to Opallis (FGM) and Opus Bulk Fill (FGM) resins.","PeriodicalId":197045,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Dental and Oral Health","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135385707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This inhibition can be enhanced by the reaction of indolamine in osseoclastogenesis and may have benefits in implantology. Aims: To evaluate the mechanical and biological behavior of osseointegration using melatonin. To compare the stability coefficient of implants at the time of placement (initial or mechanical ISQ) and after 60 days (final or biological ISQ). To measure the disinsertion torque in both groups of rabbits, with and without melatonin application. Materials and Methods: A total of 16 implants of the same brand and size were placed, with 9 of them receiving 3mg of melatonin powder prior to installation and 7 control implants without melatonin. Resonance frequency analysis (Osstell®) was used to measure initial and biological anchorage, as well as removal torque. Results: The mean removal torque for melatonin-treated implants was 99.8 Ncm, and for control implants, the mean was 87.2 Ncm. The differences between the two groups were not statistically significant. However, there were significant differences in biological ISQ values. Conclusions: The use of melatonin improved the response to osseointegration, particularly in the measurement of final or biological ISQ values.","PeriodicalId":197045,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Dental and Oral Health","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135428001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Occlusal load (10, 20, and 30 kgf) was exerted by the conventional maxillary complete denture in occlusion with the overdenture adapted in the mandibular photoelastic model. Axial single load was also exerted on the first left or right molar of the overdenture. Qualitative analysis was made in polariscope images and quantitative analysis by the FRINGES program. Results: Qualitative analysis: The occlusal load showed similar stress in the region between the two implants. Axial single load induced in the first molars promoted stress in the implant apexes, and between the implant and mandible posterior region for the three loads. Quantitative analysis for occlusal load: 10 kgf (T = 265.03; N = 0.57); 20 kgf (T = 989.81; N = 2.11); 30 kgf (T = 1055.40; N = 2.26). Axial single load in the left molar: 10 kgf (T = 267.38; N = 0.57); 20 kgf (T = 270.07; N = 0.58) and 30 kgf (T = 281.84; N = 0.60).
