If the filtering out is not strictly performed, the AC input current of each module is affected with the appearance of non-characteristic harmonics, sub-harmonics or inter-harmonics; thus, the RMS currents in the multi-pulse transformer secondaries increases. This problem may become even more evident if the converter output frequency is lower than the AC mains frequency, because the capacitor presents higher impedance at low frequency, causing that part of the harmonic currents demanded by the inverter is supplied directly by the rectifier. This paper presents an alternative to eliminate the unexpected harmonics and thus reduce the RMS values of the power cells input current in cascaded multilevel converters. The proposed solution uses magnetic couplings between the power modules of the converter; such approach is presented as a low cost solution compared to the conventional oversized DC-link capacitors.","PeriodicalId":196284,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2012 - 38th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114979184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both of them are linear control methods of grid-connected voltage source converters (VSC's). VC is a very well known control method based on the dq decomposition to control the instantaneous active and reactive power independently. On the other hand, PSC is a novel method which uses the internal synchronization mechanism in AC systems, similar to the operation of a synchronous machine [1], [2]. By using this type of control, the VSC avoids the instability caused by a phase-locked loop (PLL) in weak AC systems [1]. The comparison between both control methods is verified through time simulations in the discrete domain under several grid disturbances as active and reactive power steps, grid impedance steps and voltage dips.","PeriodicalId":196284,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2012 - 38th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115276973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper gave the basic design procedure of SiC-based converter, and established the mathematical model of power losses by analyzing the switching characteristic of the converter. On this basis, the power loss and efficiency characteristics of the SiC-based converter were analyzed and the related experimental results were presented. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the SiC-based converter has better performance than the Si-based converter; it will have a wide application prospect in the future smart electricity network.","PeriodicalId":196284,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2012 - 38th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115416347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wireless industrial sensor networks (WISNs) are a type of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), which dedicate to industrial applications. The WISNs bring several advantages over traditional wired industrial networks for detection and control, include flexibility, scalability, remote maintenance, and rapid deployment. However, some technical issues and routing design principles need to be noticed in terms of the stringent requirements of industrial applications. In this paper, we firstly introduce the characteristics and some routing issues of WISNs. Then we discuss existing routing protocols for WISNs and analysis their performances. Finally, we outline several future research directions.","PeriodicalId":196284,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2012 - 38th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115597265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Taking advantage of the strengths of each method and thanks to the saliency properties of the machine the operation in the whole speed range is possible. The both sensorless techniques are combined by means of a weighting function to avoid bumps during speed transitions. The performance of the proposed sensorless control strategy in all speed regions and under speed reversal conditions is evaluated through simulations developed in MATLAB®-SimPowerSystems™. The results show that by using the proposed strategy the torque-speed curve for a 50 KW PMSM machine is achieved.","PeriodicalId":196284,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2012 - 38th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117212909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"PWM techniques for an open-end winding fivephase drive with a single DC source supply","authors":"N. Bodo, Martin Jones, E. Levi","doi":"10.1109/IECON.2012.6389313","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IECON.2012.6389313","url":null,"abstract":"Open-end winding drive topologies have been extensively investigated in the last two decades, predominantly in conjunction with three-phase machines. The research conducted so far includes various aspects pertinent to the topology, such as different inverter topologies connected to each side of the stator winding, different ratios of dc-bus voltages, operation with differing switching frequencies of the two inverters, comparison of performance with equivalent single-sided supply topologies, etc. In vast majority of cases supply of inverters at the two sides of the winding is provided from isolated dc sources. This paper investigates for the first time a five-phase open-end winding topology, which is obtained by connecting a two-level five-phase inverter at each side of the stator winding and supplying both inverters from a common dc source. In such configuration it is essential to eliminate the common-mode voltage (CMV) that is inevitably created by usual PWM techniques. Based on established criteria, the switching states that create zero CMV are indentified and plotted, giving a space vector pattern that is characterized with large redundancy of switching states. Suitable space vectors are selected to realize the required voltage reference at the machine terminals with zero CMV. The large number of redundant states enables some freedom in choice of switching states to impress these space vectors. Out of numerous possibilities, two particular switching sequences are chosen for further investigation. Both are simulated and also implemented in an experimental rig, and the results are presented.","PeriodicalId":196284,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2012 - 38th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"28 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121005765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
