A given document is represented as a weighted Directed Acyclic Graph. A fitness function is defined to mathematically express the quality of a summary in terms of some desired properties of a summary, such as, topic relation, cohesion and readability. Genetic Algorithm is designed to maximize this fitness function, and get the corresponding summary by extracting the most important sentences. Results are compared with a couple of other existing text summarization methods keeping the DUC2002 data as benchmark, and using the precision-recall evaluation technique. The initial results obtained seem promising and encouraging for future work in this area.","PeriodicalId":194103,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134484661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work describes an automatic approach for air embolism detection and measurement of different morphological features of the embolus using OCT contrast imaging technique. Firstly, the channel has been segmented through morphological processing. Manually selecting the initial contour for active contour (AC) technique is time consuming. To overcome this, anisotropic diffusion (AD) is implemented to automatically select the initial contour prior to AC. A snake based AC is executed to segment out the embolus. The proposed emboli segmentation mechanism has been compared with other segmentation techniques and it has been observed that it can efficiently extract the embolus with high segmentation accuracy (92%-94%) and reduced computational time. Different morphological descriptors showing the shape properties of the embolus have been computed to perform the shape analysis of it and measuring the criticality of the blockage area. It has been experimented that this method can also track multiple emboli flowing through the microchannel, thereby facilitating the study of contrast imaging in air embolism detection.","PeriodicalId":194103,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116456635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Salient face features, such as the eyes and nose, are detected through an analysis of the curvature of the entire facial surface. All the experiments have been performed on the FRAV3D Database. After applying the proposed algorithm to the 3D facial surface we have obtained considerably good results i.e. on 752 3D face images our method detected the eye corners for 543 face images, thus giving a 72.20% of eye corners detection and 743 face images for nose-tip detection thus giving a 98.80% of good nose tip localization.","PeriodicalId":194103,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130541846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are also useful for identifying potential gene markers for each cancer subtype, which helps in successful diagnosis of particular cancer types. Traditional supervised classifiers can only work with labeled data. Consequently, a large number of microarray data that do not have adequate follow-up information are disregarded. A Novel approach to combine feature (gene) selection and transductive SVM (TSVM) has been proposed. The selected genes of the microarray data are then exploited to design the transductive SVM. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method in the area of semisupervised cancer classification as well as gene marker identification.","PeriodicalId":194103,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124963689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although there are stringent acts and regulations for air quality, proper information on air quality is not available round the clock. This work looks at the requirements for the design of a genuine air quality information system. Peri-urban regions of Howrah, with its cluster of foundries and other age-old industries located within densely populated residential zone, is considered as a case study. Air quality data available for this zone is analyzed and compared with that of other Indian cities. The prospects of designing an information system to monitor air quality of this region is explored in the study.","PeriodicalId":194103,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125130433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are varied causes of cough such as respiratory tract infections to unrelieved conditions such as asthma, bronchitis etc. The frequency of cough is important for both accurate diagnosis and for monitoring the success of the treatment. The goal of this work is to put into use of a non-invasive and unobtrusive device that will accurately record the frequency of cough. Electromyography (EMG) is used to obtain the cough signals from the patients. The signals are recorded in real time using LabVIEW software. We have taken two commonly existing and closely related pulmonary diseases namely Asthma and Bronchitis for our work. These diseases are differentiated based on the frequency of cough and the cough pattern. The availability of a reliable and accurate method to record the extent and severity of cough thereby improves the respiratory care and management of these patients. The advantage of cough monitor is early screening of pulmonary diseases and thus proper diagnosis and treatment for patients are possible.","PeriodicalId":194103,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124184847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this scheme the size of each generated shadow image is much smaller than the secret image. Less shadow size is more convenient for storage, transmission and hiding. This scheme can be directly applied on binary and gray scale images and can easily be extended on color images. This method can reconstruct the secret image precisely. Experimental results prove the efficiency of this scheme.","PeriodicalId":194103,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129994058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new proposal called Extended LPP (ELPP) has been introduced in which a weighing scheme is designed that pays importance to the data points which are at a moderate distance, in addition to the nearest points. This helps to resolve the ambiguity occurring at the overlapping regions as well as increase the reducibility capacity. The proposal is further extended to the supervised version of LPP (SLPP) that uses the known class labels of data points to enhance the discriminating power along with inheriting the properties of ELPP. Both proposals are tested on variety of datasets leading towards significant improvement in the results.","PeriodicalId":194103,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132322500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
