Among the various approaches, the assessment of third molar eruption has recently emerged as a useful preliminary tool for estimating whether an individual has reached the age of majority. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of the Gambier et al. scoring system for legal age estimation based on third molar eruption in a sample of Lebanese subadult individuals. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 537 orthopantomograms (OPGs), comprising 298 males and 239 females, aged between 15 and 24 years. An increase in mean chronological age was observed with the progression of third molar eruption stages (1-3) and phases (A-D) in both sexes. Only in limited cases has a strong relationship been found between phase D and the probability that an individual is 18 years of age or older. In this Lebanese sample, phase D, which corresponds to complete emergence in the occlusal plane, was not always associated with individuals being 18 years or older: the 11.9% of males and females in this phase is above the legal age threshold. This technique may serve only as a preliminary tool for estimating the probable age of alleged minors of Lebanese origin, particularly in the context of migrant populations and child marriage contexts. Its application is recommended in accordance with the minimum age principle, as minimum age thresholds have been established for each stage and phase of third molar eruption. This method, however, ought to be applied only in combination with other internationally validated dental age estimation methods, thereby safeguarding against potential ethical implications associated with legal age assessment.</p>","PeriodicalId":19390,"journal":{"name":"Odontology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2025-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"145355550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Preheating composite resins has been proposed as a strategy to enhance adaptation and reduce polymerization-induced stress. To evaluate the influence of preheating resin composites and varying light-curing durations on gap percentage at the restoration-tooth interface, internal adaptation, and void formation in Class II restorations using high-resolution Nano-CT imaging. Fifteen human maxillary premolars were prepared with standardized Class II cavities and allocated into three groups (n = 5). Group 1 received room-temperature composite cured for 20 s. Groups 2 and 3 received composite preheated to 68 °C using the Compex HD warmer, cured for 20 and 5 s, respectively. All restorations were bulk-filled. Internal adaptation (gap percentage) and voids were assessed using a Bruker Skyscan 2214 Nano-CT, followed by quantitative analysis with ImageJ and CTAnalyser software. Statistical comparisons were performed using one-way ANOVA with Tukey's post hoc test. Preheated composites (Groups 2 and 3) demonstrated significantly reduced gap percentages compared to room-temperature controls (p < 0.0001). Group 3 exhibited the lowest gap percentages and void volume, even with a 5 s curing protocol. No significant differences were observed in void frequency between groups. Preheating resin composites enhances internal adaptation and reduces interfacial gap percentage and void volume, even with reduced curing time. This technique offers a promising, efficient approach for improving posterior composite restoration outcomes.</p>","PeriodicalId":19390,"journal":{"name":"Odontology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2025-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"145313459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For each system, Race Evo (RE), ZenFlex (ZF) and Tia Tornado Blue (TTB), 20 new files were tested (n = 20). Twelve files (n = 12) were subjected to Dynamic Cyclic Fatigue testing in an artificial canal (18 mm length, 1.4 mm diameter, 45° curvature, 5 mm radius) at 34 °C. Five files (n = 5) were used for static bending tests at 34 °C. Two files (n = 2) were used for differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), and one (n = 1) unused file was used for geometric evaluation using stereomicroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). TTB exhibited significantly higher fatigue resistance (1512 NCF) than ZF (1234 NCF; P < 0.05), while RE showed intermediate performance (1385 NCF). RE has the shortest fragment length at 3.25 mm, which represents a significant difference compared to ZF (4.55 mm; P < 0.05) and TTB (5.1 mm; P < 0.05), respectively. TTB required the lowest mean force, 0.304 N (P < 0.05), to bend, which was a statistically significant difference compared to RE (0.361 N) and ZF (0.425 N), respectively. ZF has been shown to lack an R-phase during heating, whereas other files have both an R-phase and an austenite phase. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and economic impact of late diagnosis of MIH. A total of 803 children aged 6-11 years were examined, of whom 172 were diagnosed with MIH and classified into 2 groups based on age at diagnosis: early diagnosis (under 8 years) and late diagnosis (8 years or older). A treatment plan was developed according to the severity and clinical presentation of MIH in each child, and the associated financial costs were calculated. Children in the late-diagnosis group presented more severe MIH, with a higher prevalence of demarcated opacities, atypical carious lesions, and atypical restorations. Although the estimated overall financial cost of treatment did not differ significantly between groups, a 2-year delay in MIH diagnosis led to more severe clinical presentations and higher expenses from the more complex interventions required. In conclusion, a 2-year delay in the diagnosis of MIH was associated with a more severe clinical presentation, necessitating more complex restorative treatments and leading to increased financial costs related to these treatments.Research Ethics Committee: CAAE 12161019.2.0000.5419, date 29.04.2019.</p>","PeriodicalId":19390,"journal":{"name":"Odontology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2025-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"145293049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating the relationship between the IL-17A rs2275913 polymorphism and susceptibility to periodontitis. Case-control studies were systematically retrieved from PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science (inception to July 2025). Strict criteria were enforced during data extraction and quality assessment using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale(NOS). Meta-analysis was performed using STATA to calculate pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), assessing heterogeneity, performing subgroup analyses, evaluating sensitivity, and detecting publication bias. 11 studies (1409 periodontitis cases, 1367 controls) were included. A significant association between the rs2275913 polymorphism and periodontitis risk was identified under the following genetic models: Allele model (G vs A): OR = 0.87, 95% CI 0.77-0.98; Homozygous model (GG vs AA): OR = 0.70, 95% CI 0.55-0.90; Dominant model (GG+GA vs AA): OR = 0.78, 95% CI 0.62-0.98. Subgroup analyses indicated significant associations within Asian populations but not European populations, and in studies employing healthy controls but not those using type 1 diabetes (T1DM) patients or other control groups. Publication bias was not statistically significant. Findings remained consistent upon sensitivity analysis, confirming robustness.
