This policy is the basis for detailed risk assessment and planning of an appropriate response. The asset owner can then evaluate whether this plan falls within the policy and financial constraints. This may lead to iterations of the policy and restoration plan. Implementation of the plan will result in adequate material, manpower and equipment resources to address identified emergency situations consistent with the corporate policy. Due to the changing utility environment, it is essential that the restoration policy and plan be reviewed regularly.","PeriodicalId":193517,"journal":{"name":"ESMO 2006 - 2006 IEEE 11th International Conference on Transmission & Distribution Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121469799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pad-mounted switchgear is installed and forgotten with little if any maintenance over its life cycle. Site-specific environmental issues may range from mild to severe contamination conditions. Contamination and moisture ingress if severe can lead to premature unit failure. This paper discusses three methods of mitigating contamination and moisture ingress: (1) basic switchgear design concepts, (2) moisture barriers (3) energized cleaning using propelled dry-ice pellets. As a product, the original designs of metal-enclosed switchgear first appeared in the 1930s and, as with every product life cycle, there were initial difficulties to overcome. But, in the case of switchgear, one dual problem has continued over its life cycle. Specifically, the control of contamination and moisture ingress has been critical to long-term survival. This problem became even more difficult as the off-shoot pad-mounted switchgear installed over an open pit became a widely used product in electric utility power distribution systems and has subsequently moved into the commercial and industrial sectors.","PeriodicalId":193517,"journal":{"name":"ESMO 2006 - 2006 IEEE 11th International Conference on Transmission & Distribution Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126236665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The electromagnetic field coupling is a major reason of increasing the corrosion on pipeline near overhead power transmission line. The work presents physical EMF measurements on pipelines, during steady state condition. The models achieved describe the phenomenon of electrical interference in large-scale systems comprising conductors of arbitrary orientations. The types of interference between AC power transmission line and pipelines has been summarized and presented. The paper should explain important factor in order to determine the cause of corrosion initiation in a system of pipelines run parallel to over head power transmission line. The future work is concentrated on all major electrical power stations, in order to monitor/determine/reduce corrosion phenomena.","PeriodicalId":193517,"journal":{"name":"ESMO 2006 - 2006 IEEE 11th International Conference on Transmission & Distribution Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance","volume":"60 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113938247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Applied robotics has found several niche applications in Hydro-Quebec operations. One example of a recently developed robotic solution for power line applications is the LineROVer Technology. Now that the technology has proven its worth for power system applications, the next logical step in the project is to develop a vehicle capable of clearing such obstacles as insulator strings, vibration dampers, aircraft warning spheres and corona rings. It must also clear spacer dampers and insulator strings as it travels along conductor bundles. The LineScout robot developed meets this requirement and can clear obstacles as it travels down a line. It can move along several axes, allowing it to adjust its shape in real time to various line configurations and to a wide range of obstacles while remaining as light and compact as possible. The robot's geometry was engineered to give it at least six possible obstacle-clearing sequences, making it versatile in unforeseen situations. The robot can operate on an energized line, has one-day battery life and can be remotely controlled 5 km away. The control approach and electronics allow intuitive human operation of the robot. Moreover, it can operate semi-autonomously, learning to clear obstacles by means of automated sequences. The LineScout Technology described in this paper is a versatile moving platform that extends live-line inspection capabilities and lends itself to future power line repair work","PeriodicalId":193517,"journal":{"name":"ESMO 2006 - 2006 IEEE 11th International Conference on Transmission & Distribution Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131072538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The robot being developed by KEPRI is designed to move automatically along insulator strings to clean insulators, measure insulation resistance, and detect cracks. The insulation resistance is measured by means of live line megaohmmeter equipped within the robot, and the crack is detected by analyzing sonic resonance frequency of insulator generated when the robot applies impact to the insulator. The robot system has been tested successfully at the live line testing facility of Korea electric power research institute up to 345 kV. This paper deals with the design, test, and performance of the testing devices installed in the robot.","PeriodicalId":193517,"journal":{"name":"ESMO 2006 - 2006 IEEE 11th International Conference on Transmission & Distribution Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134622222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the mid-1990s, Austin Energy did a field test with steel distribution poles when looking for a cost-effective solution to a technical distribution problem. This positive experience convinced the Texas municipal utility to use steel in other applications. Today, 90 percent of all new major power distribution projects include steel poles. The quality control of cable installations by PD measurements will become increasingly important in the future, because the increasing cost pressure upon the network operators to reduce installation cost. For the evaluation of PD occurrences, the PD inception and extinction voltages and the local concentration of PD have to be considered as the most important parameters besides the trend or preset levels of PD. Statements regarding the remaining life time of a cable are generally not possible via the PD diagnosis nor are they with any other diagnostic method. However, an evaluation based on practical experience permits to perform a risk assessment regarding the condition and reliability. The PD diagnosis provides valuable information for required maintenance activities and helps to spend available budgets prudently","PeriodicalId":193517,"journal":{"name":"ESMO 2006 - 2006 IEEE 11th International Conference on Transmission & Distribution Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126240601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utility Flight Operations Flights for Light 公用事业飞行操作轻型航班

{"title":"Utility Flight Operations Flights for Light","authors":"N. Kilroe","doi":"10.1109/TDCLLM.2006.340730","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/TDCLLM.2006.340730","url":null,"abstract":"Utility Flight Operations have been an integral part of transmission line maintenance programs for many decades. In spite of a proven track record, use of helicopters by some utilities has declined in the past ten years for a variety of reasons; lack of growth in the industry coupled with misconceptions around value could be cited for this downward trend. This may be about to change. With few new infrastructure additions to the aging transmission system, together with major growth in all sectors, the electrical grid is severely taxed and increasingly fragile. The blackout on August 13, 2003 was a grim wake-up call for all utilities to a growing and critical revelation; the time has arrived to breathe new life into the transmission grid. Meeting the increasing demands on the electrical system represents a significant challenge for all utilities, and presents huge potential for utility flight operations, ranging from the inspection and assessment of existing facilities to the construction of new infrastructure. While the future looks bright, it is not without challenge. Operating and maintaining transmission lines has changed significantly over the past years, and utilities having, or considering the use of helicopters, to augment their maintenance practices, need to address emerging issues that face us today and into the future. The use of helicopters has been an integral component of many maintenance programs at AltaLink since the late seventies. Like many places in North America, the province is witnessing growth such as it has not experienced in almost a quarter of a century. With plans for major upgrades to its transmission system, the possibility of increased helicopter usage is imminent. This paper considers some of the challenges that face the utility, and how we are moving forward to meet them.","PeriodicalId":193517,"journal":{"name":"ESMO 2006 - 2006 IEEE 11th International Conference on Transmission & Distribution Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126698171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
