Since 2001, WiMAX has evolved from 802.16 to 802.16d standard for fixed wireless access and to the new IEEE 802.16e (Mobile WiMAX) standard with mobility support. Meanwhile, its security is becoming a critical issue with the proliferation of wireless threats. Though incorporating some security methods, IEEE 802.16e is still vulnerable to malicious attacks. In this paper, we analyze the security of Mobile WiMAX, point out several potential security threats and vulnerabilities. We propose some possible security improvements and solutions to eliminate the vulnerabilities.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128110682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are many unresolved security vulnerabilities in the current IEEE 802.16 standard, such as BS/RS spoofing. Additional measures are needed to ensure that each component in the network is a trusted entity, verified by a trusted server and accessible through secure private channels. We suggest a Distributed Trust Relationship (DTR) with Polynomial-based Key Generation as a way of mutually validating trustworthiness between network components and preventing compromised components from infecting the entire network.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122690594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Motivated by the effective CID translation, CTFS and E-CTFS primarily relay the broadcast message without appending the relay MAC header. Moreover, E-CTFS classifies the content of the broadcast message, and then uses an efficient approach for message relay. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed CTFS scheme occupies less resources and supports fewer number of MSs than the tunnel forwarding scheme proposed in the IEEE 802.16j draft. Furthermore, E-CTFS can achieve significant resource reduction and support larger number users than CTFS.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115559562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we provide a comprehensive system level comparison of relay and RF repeater based systems utilizing multiple antenna techniques. For relay-based systems we consider a novel relay mode selection procedure that allows intelligent interference avoidance within the same cell. The results show that for both downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) transmission the relay-based system can offer both average throughput and coverage enhancements, while the repeater-based system is capable of coverage extension only. The geographical areas that are most suitable for relay or RF repeater modes are also calculated through system level analysis.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115336986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work we have applied model-driven development to an existing software architecture, created an instantiation of the models, and observed how such a system can deploy automatically generated configurations to hardware. We hypothesize that this method of model driven development yields improved workflow with fewer opportunities for errors, increased flexibility, and faster deployment times.
