We propose an efficient algorithm to discover concurrent transmission scenarios under a multihop relay environment, while applying the back-pressure flow control mechanism to reflect the dynamic queue status of each relay station. Then, we develop a linear programming algorithm for scheduling, aiming at maximizing network throughput and achieving fairness. In this linear programming model, we consider the frame-based transmission in wireless cellular networks and the queue dynamics at the relay stations. Simulations are carried out based on IEEE 802.16 OFDMA mode for performance evaluation and comparison in terms of throughput and fairness. The results show the effectiveness of our proposed scheduling algorithm against other cheduling schemes.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127193399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it may not be applicable mainly due to implementation complexity. To alleviate this problem, we consider combined use of ML and minimum-mean-square-error based ordered successive interference cancellation (MMSE-OSIC) detection. The proposed scheme considers ML metric only for signal vectors of desired and adjacent base stations determined by the MMSE-OSIC. In WiMAX, the radio resource unit (i.e., time, frequency, code, etc.) for MBS is centralized allocated by a network device named Anchor ASN-GW. The ASN-GW has to ensure that non-overlapping radio resource units are allocated to BSs for delivering different MBS contents. This paper presents a method to allocate radio resource units in overlapping MBS Zones. We proposed radio resource allocation and re-allocation algorithms to minimize the number of re-allocated resource unit due to the change of MBS Zones topology. Simulation result shows that the proposed algorithms can reduce the number of re-allocations and thus, reduce the signaling message exchanged in the air interface and the core network.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117026076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, many diversified network applications and services can be applied further for the prevalence of nomadic clients. In this paper, we introduce a new network deployment of WiMAX to effectively provide high-quality video streaming of live news reporting (i.e. LNR) for TV stations in Taiwan, Both services of WiTV (IPTV over WiMAX) and e-SNG (WiMAX News Gathering) are provided for users and reporters respectively in proposed WiMAX deployment. Besides, to effectively provide LNR service, this island-wide WiMAX network deployment with access range of more than 350Km applies not only the relays of digital microwave links with end-to-end distance reaching to 70Km, but also the port-based VLANs to differentiate services to guarantee quality of service for LNR without interference from other irrelevant traffics. On the test-bed of proposed WiMAX deployment, the performance results from experiments on H.264/SD video streaming demonstrate cost-effectiveness and feasibility of LNR for TV stations.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114839554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, with the emergence of ad hoc and other less centralized networking architectures, there has been an increase in interest in the potential of the wireless physical layer to provide communications security. Information theory provides a natural framework for the study of this issue, and consequently there has been a resurgence of interest in information-theoretic security in recent years, particularly for wireless channel models. This work has expanded on earlier ideas about secure broadcast, by examining multiple-access channels, fading, code design, source coding, authentication, network coding, and many other issues. This paper will review recent works in the field of wireless security specially taking into account the OFDM(A)-based systems, e.g, Long Term Evolution (LTE) and WiMAX.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129657043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An international collaboration, led by the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), has been working to implement a dedicated WiMAX network for a user field trial on the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) bullet train system. Continuous wireless coverage at train speeds up to 300km/hr is challenging due to a number of critical issues, including handover at high speeds and coverage in challenging terrain such as tunnels. A Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) Distributed Antenna System (DAS) was developed by Corning Incorporated to address the critical issue of handover and increase the coverage for each WiMAX basestation. For a DAS deployment consisting of multiple discrete antennas, proper signal strength management is required because the maximum delay spread allowed by the WiMAX protocol is easily surpassed at realistic fiber ranges up to 9km. This paper reviews some of the initial results of the RoF DAS experiments in SongShan tunnel in Taipei. Error-free signal transmission was achieved when the difference in received power from two consecutive antennas was greater than 10dB.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128078216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we address the issue of frequency reuse in sectored cells which are subject to interfer-ence in the overlap regions of adjacent sectors. We propose to increase the number of sectors from 3 to 4 using conventional base station sector antennas with beam-width exceeding 120°, which purposely creates large overlap regions between adjacent sectors. Rather than treating the signals of adjacent sectors as interference, we investigate sector cooperation for communica-tion with users located in the overlap regions. Different scenarios are considered for user locations, and simulation results are given which illustrate the performance of the proposed schemes.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133046309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The multiple coexist networks are deployed to serve different kinds of mobile users that their traffic requirements and moving speeds are different. Thus, in this paper, we discuss how to deploy the heterogenous BSs that support differentservice ranges, costs, speeds, capacities, and delay requirements with budgetary limit. The problem is formulated as an integer non-linear programming problem. Accordingly, we proposed some placement algorithms (i.e., Lagrangean Relaxation and simulated annealing approaches) to give a deployment strategy based on constructed BSs to minimize the total deployment cost under the satisfaction of user requirements. The experiment results show the heuristics based on the cost per unit of service point is the best than other two methods.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121147982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modulation order and MIMO transmission mode are selected via a look-up table according to the SNR and Rician channel K-factor instead of the channel relative condition number. The BER and spectral efficiency performance of the MIMO-OFDM system is evaluated by simulation. Result shows that the spectral efficiency can be achieved up to 9bps/Hz under Rician channel K-factor of 3.3dB when SNR is 30dB. The spectral efficiency is higher under low K-factor Rician channel than in high K-factor one. The recent mobile WiMAX standard (802.16e) supports broadband applications to mobile terminals and laptops in urban environments. Mobile WiMAX supports a full range of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques including space time block coding (STBC), spatial multiplexing (SM) and eigen-beamforming (EB). This paper compares the performance of the above schemes in terms of achievable throughput and operating range. Simulated packet error rate (PER) and throughput results are presented for each MIMO technique, and for a range of modulation and coding rates. Based on a typical link-budget, the expected throughput for each scheme is computed as a function of the basestation-terminal separation distance. The paper highlights the use of Adaptive MIMO Switching (AMS) in mobile WiMAX. The SNR switching points between each MIMO mode is determined and their dependency on channel spatial correlation is demonstrated. Finally the operating range of the different MIMO schemes is determined (based on a 10% PER) for a mobile WiMAX system. The use of eigen-beamforming together with AMS is shown to offer significant performance benefits in terms of robustness, capacity and operating range. For the scenario under test, the use of eigen-beamforming (based on the dominant eigen-mode) extends the operating range by 16%, and doubles the received data rate for 65% of locations.","PeriodicalId":192563,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130190298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
