As the name already suggests, the model based design process depends strongly on the plant model and its quality as well as on the accuracy of the corresponding model parameters, which sometimes are estimated or even just guessed. The goal of this paper is to investigate the automation potentials of the model based design process, concretely in this paper the parametrization of two given cascaded controllers for a plant, which might vary over time or due to certain events. Transferring controller parametrization to a computer which is in contrast to a human engineer not sensible of the real life use cases, makes the plant model even more important. In this work we want to underline this point by a case study and provide some insights into the possibilities and limitations of automated parametrization of controllers during a model based design process for two cascaded controllers.","PeriodicalId":191988,"journal":{"name":"2015 16th International Conference on Research and Education in Mechatronics (REM)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134085167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the experimental setup seven synchronized Xsens MTw inertial measurement units (IMU) are applied to the lower limbs and the pelvis of the subject. The sensors provide filtered and strapped down samples of acceleration, angular velocity and magnetic rate vectors as well as the estimated quaternion of orientation. The data are transferred with a rate of 60 Hz and transformed into an inertial coordinate system. Stable and reliable algorithms processing the gait data and calculating gait features of a single sensor are developed and evaluated. These algorithms are based on precise determination of each gait cycle. In the middle of stance phase the foot is not moving. It stands on the floor and, following, the initial conditions for the calculation of foot velocities and distances by integration are predetermined. The same time intervals are used for calculations of the data of the other sensors fixed to the shank, thigh and pelvis. Investigating the averaged motion of different cohorts in various standard scenarios gait patterns were determined and compared with patterns given by Perry and Murray [1,2].","PeriodicalId":191988,"journal":{"name":"2015 16th International Conference on Research and Education in Mechatronics (REM)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114719024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the one hand the three-dimensional sensitivity of a sensor is of interest. On the other hand the transmission characteristics of transceiver systems, that transfer information or energy, depending on the distance between transmitter and receiver are of particular interest. Measurements can be useful if an analytical model or a simulation is not convertible. In this publication, a concept and an implementation of a three-dimensional measurement system are presented, that can examine the properties of sensors quickly and easily. The system uses the established software Matlab® integrating standard laboratory and measuring equipment. The system has a high resolution of 17 μm in all three spatial directions for a measurement volume of 60 × 60 × 60 cm. The data can be examined during the course of measurement. Several experiments were conducted to show the accuracy and functionality of the three-dimensional measurement system.","PeriodicalId":191988,"journal":{"name":"2015 16th International Conference on Research and Education in Mechatronics (REM)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116193113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A prototype was designed and fabricated using Polycarbonate for the housings and controlled by sequential pulsing of channel piston and valve coils. The pumping concept is based on reciprocating a hard magnet acting as a piston in a circular channel, and synchronizing this movement with two electromagnetically actuated valves located at the pump inlet and outlet ports. The pumping system is programmed to allow simultaneous energization of a set of coils that control the magnet positions. Each pump port has an inlet and outlet channel. According to the piston movement direction, i. e. clockwise or counter clockwise, the valve will change its position to allow for inflow or outflow. The pump concept was tested on a meso-scale setup for pumping water. Tests showed that a magnet rotational speed of 70 strokes per minute is achievable. A flow rate of 6.1 ml/min and a pressure of 400 Pa were obtained at this speed.","PeriodicalId":191988,"journal":{"name":"2015 16th International Conference on Research and Education in Mechatronics (REM)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127398126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
