The author proposes a new framework which closes the gap between openness of a system and easiness of integration of tools. A General Object-Based Environment (GOBE) is based on an object-oriented view of the whole environment, i.e. of the tools, data, and persons. It combines the ability to allow collaboration and sharing of knowledge with a fairly easy way to introduce new tools-and data and persons as well. The author briefly describes the architecture of a GOBE and its basic component, i.e. the object.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":191866,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Fourth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering","volume":"780 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116128200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SESAM ('Software Engineering Simulation by Animated Models') therefore is designed as a simulator for software projects, allowing students to gain reality-like experiences in project management and researchers to evaluate hypotheses on the mechanisms influencing software projects. This paper focuses on the basic assumptions for SESAM, its building blocks and the way hypotheses are affecting the simulation. After a short description of the requirements for SESAM, the authors introduce objects, attributes, actions, relationships between objects, and hypotheses as its basic concepts. They present attributed graph grammars as a means for representing hypotheses. Finally they position their project with respect to related work, and they show its present a state and future development.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":191866,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Fourth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122551996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors suggest a set of conceptual models for representing a system structure, differing as regards abstraction degree (essential vs. language-oriented), decomposition method (functional vs. object-oriented), and target languages. A set of software metrics is applied to system components, to single out the critical areas which require justification. Comparing measures between different versions, variants and degrees of abstraction, enables one to monitor the growth of entropy during software evolution.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":191866,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Fourth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122692107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Basically, the knowledge about a production process relies on three models: the product, the organization and the process model. Product and organization models are information models: an extended entity-relationship formalism is suitable to build such models. On the other hand, process models are behavioral models which react to temporal events or to user actions on the repository. The authors' research aims at providing conceptual models which support the construction of rigorous and verifiable organization and process models. They have developed two formalisms: Quid for building E-R models and generating the corresponding repository, and Protob for expressing process models in terms of high level nets. This paper illustrates the formalisms and present examples of process models.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":191866,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Fourth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114489338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors propose a structure-oriented workbench, in which interactive software tools are integrated through sharing a unique high level program representation, satisfying the request of independence from the source language. The data structure representing programs, the web structure, is based upon the mathematical concept of relation and it is easily implemented as a Prolog data base. Program transformations, given as web transformations, can be expressed as rewriting rules, so that software tools can be implemented as sets of rewriting rules and then added to the WSDW.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":191866,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Fourth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114498229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the project is to promote object-oriented software development within the framework of management information systems. The Business Class development method is supported by an analysis workbench based on the O* method and a design workbench dedicated to the Eiffel language. The communication presents a set of mapping rules from O* specifications to an Eiffel implementation. The practical results as well as the mismatch difficulties can be translated to other object-oriented methods and languages.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":191866,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Fourth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129893111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Parallel computing environments draw more attention to achieve the high processing speed and the less expensive processing method. This paper proposes the possibility of using a connectionist model by treating every datum as an active processing unit cooperating with other such units via messages in getting answers in a deductive database, especially with recursion. It uses query compilation and iteration to process the recursive case. The notion of the reverse-compilation which is essential to get the correct answers is introduced in handling recursive cases. It introduces the recursive controller which is dedicated to processing the recursive cases as a sublayer to a central database controller.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":191866,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Fourth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130426745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors propose a graph proof procedure for RTL formulae. First, they represent the RTL formulae in a connection graph-like structure. Based on this graph, they have found some useful deduction rules and reduction rules. Many researchers of this field have focused on the approach of developing methodologies or systems to automate the knowledge acquisition process and have achieved good results. Some reports show that missing implicit knowledge has significant affects on the performance of expert systems. The author resolves the consistency problem in the process of knowledge elicitation. The author analyzes each possible inconsistent condition that may arise in eliciting implicit expertise, and then proposes a consistency test to help the experts to cope with the problem.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":191866,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Fourth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering","volume":"262 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115632591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
