A contractor owns a fleet of vehicles with different capacities and running costs. The fleet is used to transport craftsmen from their homes to assigned project sites and back, with some of the craftsmen appointed as drivers while others are passengers. An optimisation model is described that enables the contractor to minimise the transportation costs, and a computational study shows that the model can be solved to optimality for realistically sized instances using a standard mixed-integer programming solver. A variant of the problem is also considered, where the assignment of craftsmen to projects is not fixed a priori. For this variant, several simple heuristic rules are investigated to generate project assignments, and computational results show that they are able to find improved assignments.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. This impact negatively on system efficiency and productivity, resource utilisation, and patient access to care. This work was designed to measure, analyse and forecast the workflow process in a radiology department using modelling and simulation. A prospective cross-sectional study was carried out in a tertiary hospital radiology department on randomly selected 768 adult ambulant patients that underwent routine radiographic investigations. Arrival time, service time and waiting time were measured for each patient and MATLAB Simulink was used to model and simulate the workflow process. The probability of n arrival is inversely related to the arrival rate. System utilisation increases with increase of the arrival rate and generally decreases with increase in the number of servers and mean service rate. The probability of the number of delays decreases at higher utilisation rates. A software program called 'MATLAB Estimator' was developed which showcases output parameters once the input parameters are known. Operations planning and control process can be enhanced by radiology service managers using forecasts of system demands which will enable work process improvement.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. The main objective is to uncover causal relationships between some key performance indicators (KPIs) at small business. The review highlights the importance of studying the KPIs to know the performance of a business and the need to know the causality between them. It is possible to find articles that pursue this objective, but few allow to know the real causality among the studied KPIs. In order to reach the objective set, the causal temporal model was applied, which allowed to discover those indicators that had an impact on the performance of the small business studied. This facilitates the owner-manager to know more deeply his business and to take actions of improvement in function of its improvement.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. In this study, a questionnaire survey has been performed to explore the problems in the organisation and tried to find the linkages of the problems with the organisational context as well as the approach adopted by management while recovering the problems. It has been observed that the organisations implementing quality management programs (QMPs) often confront hurdles in the process of managing the organisational change associated with such programs. On average quality practitioners in Indian service industry indicated significantly higher perceived values of barrier than in manufacturing industry in the attributes expertise in QMPs.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. For future studies, there is a need to empirically verification of this theoretical framework. The proposed methodology to achieve this framework is; a questionnaire will be developed from a pool and will be validated by an exploratory view for risk identification. In this paper, a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is developed to determine optimal production-distribution planning in electromotor manufacturing industries. The proposed model is a multi-product and multi-period one in which optimal amounts of production, inventory and distribution are determined in different periods. Also, the possibility of capacity expansion of facilities in different periods are modelled to optimally determine the capacity increase if necessary. To validate the proposed model, it is applied in a company in Iran producing different electro-motors. The achieved results confirm the efficiency of the model to be used in determining the optimum production-distribution plans in electromotor industries.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. In fact, the purpose of the drugs cold chain is to guarantee the respect of these temperature ranges throughout the drug circuit, namely transport and storage until the administration to patients. Actually, a large number of healthcare organisations suffer from the defectiveness of the cold chain products following the non-compliance of the required temperatures. Sometimes, the defect is not detected due to temperature traceability problems and the products can be administrated to the patients and have serious effects on their health. The main purpose of this paper is then to analyse the cold chain in the hospital pharmacy. The analysis will concern the general cartography proposed in this paper, namely the different actors and procedures of this chain. Finally, the failures of the drugs cold chain in the Moroccan regulation will be analysed and thus will be proposed the different orientations that the government must adopt in order to follow the progress of the international regulation.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. The scheduling problems consist of 'n' jobs and 'm' machines, in which each job has 'O' operations. The processing time for 50 open shop scheduling problems was generated using a linear congruential random number generator. A non-traditional algorithm called discrete firefly algorithm is proposed to minimise the makespan of open shop scheduling problems and this method is referred as A1. Discrete firefly algorithm is also hybridised along with other heuristic algorithms in two ways: 1) firefly algorithm is hybridised with longest total remaining processing on other machines and local search algorithms which is referred as A2; 2) firefly algorithm is hybridised with simulated annealing and referred as A3. Novelty of this work focuses on the application of open shop scheduling problems in quality control of a production industry.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. In each fixed time planning horizon, the inventory position is affected by production disruption. The production disruption time and the disruption recovery time in a single planning horizon are stochastic. The process of the inventory levels at the beginning of the time horizon is formulated by using a finite state discrete-time Markov chain. We derive expressions of the transition probability and the long-run average cost. The optimum solution is obtained through numerical experiments. The result shows that under the circumstance of production time constraint, the incorporation of safety stock in a disruption prone production-inventory system helps to minimise the long run average cost. Finally, sensitivity analysis has been given to demonstrate the usefulness of the model. This model assists decision makers to not only determine the optimal safety stock quantity but also reveal distinct effect and/or joint impacts of individual cost parameters, disruption probability on the decision regarding selection of safety stock.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int.
