Attribution is the clarifications and reasons that individuals give for advance, accomplishment, and indeed disappointment towards something they have experienced, especially in their language learning. This study aims to investigate the students’ attributions on their English-reading skill especially in reading aviation text. Thus, we know the progress, the achievement and also the failure of the learning activity in students’ reading skill. The participants of the study were sixty-nine students who took Bahasa Inggris Teknik II class. Open-ended questionnaire and interview were used as the instruments to collect the data. The results showed that interest was the major attributions for doing well and ability was the major factor for not doing well.    \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124803191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, the use of English subtitle in Korean dramas is scarcely explored. Within a qualitative approach, this study aims at investigating how Indonesian EFL university students employ Korean dramas with English subtitle for improving their vocabulary. Twenty-three EFL university students were involved to participate in this study. Interview and questionnaire were applied as data collection methods. The results of the study revealed that the students enjoyed learning vocabulary through English subtitle while watching Korean dramas. They were motivated to learn vocabulary because of interesting storyline, editing effect and scene/setting served by Korean dramas. Pedagogically, this study implies that learning vocabulary can be done in regards with the students’ interests, including watching Korean dramas. Further research focusing on the employment of English subtitle for improving reading skill is interestingly to be carried out.","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123500346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through teaching practicum, student teachers can gain experiences before becoming real teachers. However, there are some students who still feel anxious towards teaching practicum. Therefore, this study aimed to find out the factors contributing to student teachers’ anxiety during teaching practicum and the strategies to cope with the anxiety. The participants of this study were six student teachers who had done their teaching practicum at a private senior high school in Central Java. The data were collected qualitatively by using semi-structured interviews to get in-depth information from the participants. The findings revealed that facing a new environment, school teachers and students’ attitudes, lesson plans and teaching materials, the ways of presenting the materials, time management, availability of AVAs, and observation by mentor teachers and the supervisor were the factors that contributed to student teachers’ anxiety during teaching practicum. The strategies used by student teachers to cope with their anxiety were adapting themselves with the new environment, preparing well before teaching, building good rapport with school teachers and students, creating a good learning environment, prioritizing the most crucial teaching part, and doing relaxation.","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122005444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to describe the teachers’ role in applying multisensory approach in Primary English Home-based learning, find the benefits and challenges in applying multisensory approach, and provide strategies to overcome the challenges. This study uses qualitative descriptive as the research method and the data was taken from the researcher’s reflections, lesson plans, observation reports and mentor’s feedback. This study shows that multisensory approach positively promoted engagement in primary English home-based learning. Several classroom activities that can be used in applying multisensory approach are Total Physical Response, color codes, storytelling, art & craft, and interactive PowerPoint. The challenges occurred from technicalities and monitoring the students’ behavior. Therefore, parents’ involvement is highly required to monitor students’ behavior in home-based learning process. For the next researcher, it is suggested to find ways to maximize home-based learning by maintaining social interaction among students.","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116818518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The metaphors were collected from various sources, such as online sources, Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), song lyrics, poems, movies, and newspaper. There were two research questions formulated as follows: 1) What are the Indonesian sexist metaphors? and 2) What are the denotative and connotative meaning of the sexist metaphors? The method of this research was qualitative method, specifically content analysis. This method has two sources, they are primary and secondary sources. The primary source was the metaphors found in various sources. The secondary sources were theories of metaphor, denotative and connotative meaning, and sexist language. The metaphors were analysed using Lakoff and Johnson’s theory (1980) and the meaning of the metaphor was analysed using Parera’s theory (2004). In identifying the sexist in the metaphor, this study used the sexist language theory from Mills (1995). The results of this research showed that there were 32 Indonesian sexist metaphors, 16 of which belonged to female and the other 16 to male. Each metaphor had both connotative and denotative meanings. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that Indonesian language has sexist metaphors for both male and female.","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127743457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The participants of the study were 52 second-year ELEP students. A close-ended and open-ended questionnaire developed from Horwitz et al, (1986) and Angelia and Listyani (2019) were administered to the participants. The findings revealed that students’ speaking anxiety in English speaking class was derived from three main factors of anxiety, i.e. communication apprehension, test anxiety and fear of negative evaluation. Moreover, as the questionnaires answers and interview data revealed, lack of vocabulary, underestimate their ability, lack of preparation, being afraid of making mistakes, and worried of being embarassed at by his/her friends had also contributed to students’ anxiety in speaking. These findings suggest that the teachers’ role is very important in this situation. Students and teachers could build a positive classroom atmosphere in order to overcome students’ anxiety.","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124639581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
