However, the studies on the communicative moves in the discussion section particularly written by vocational college students are still limited. In fact, those students categorized as the novice writers inevitably need illustrations of how to write the proper discussion related to their findings. Therefore, this study was aimed at exploring the communicative moves and the move cycle series in the discussion sections of the final project reports written by EFL vocational college students in one of the state polytechnics in Indonesia. The method used is a discourse analysis on 15 discussion sections. The results showed that Move II, Move IV, and Move I were used frequently in all students’ discussion sections. Pertaining to the move cycle series, students fulfilled the rhetorical functions of introduction (1) and evaluation (4+2 or 2+4) but the cycle for showing the conclusion was commonly not used. The results provide references and the real applications pertinent to communication moves in the discussion section by EFL students.","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"2013 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133032923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The debate on whether prepositions should be memorized as divergent cases or introduced in the teaching process by revealing their manifold senses as a network of related meanings is more likely to be resolved by adhering to the latter, occasionally referred to as the motivating polysemy method. The article investigated the source of the problems that Indonesian-speaking learners face when using English prepositions. Twenty-three students participated in this study. The participants were third-year English–major students writing for a professional context class of Madura University (UNIRA) in the academic year 2020 – 2021. The participants were supposed to answer a multiple-choice test designed for this purpose. The test was made up of 15 questions. Findings indicated that UNIRA learners of English meet considerable problems in employing English prepositions. The study suggested that the Indonesian language as a mother tongue interferes with using English prepositions by Indonesian-speaking learners and brings about numerous difficulties in English prepositions.   ","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122616959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multimedia has become increasingly used to help learning and cognition. As technology advances, educators are required to be more creative when creating learning devices. Teachers and lecturers need to develop an instructional design that can address the needs of the students. ADDIE model is one of the most effective tools in developing educational products and other learning resources, including multimedia technology. This paper attempts to explore how multimedia in various levels of EFL classrooms in Indonesia are developed using the ADDIE model in particular. Nationally accredited articles were categorized based on similar themes to multimedia development using ADDIE model to be analyzed. Most of the articles showed a successful development and implementation of the media used in teaching reading, listening, writing vocabulary, and language functions. The multimedia: worksheets, websites, applications, cards, and videos, are mostly rated highly by the expert. The validity and practicality were also high. However, some of the articles did not mention the principles and details of the process of multimedia development.\u0000 ","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127614323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the challenges is the lack of varied learning material in grammar learning. The researchers propose to develop an English material based on the students’ own life context, that is mental health, to make the post-pandemic learning process interesting. The short stories are used as English mindful material with 5 tenses included; simple present tense, present continuous tense, simple past tense, past continuous tense, and present perfect tense. In developing short stories, the researchers went through 4 steps; 1) story development; 2) validation; 3) publication; 4) trying out 10 EFL students from random schools. With a total of 13 parts, the stories are being published on Wattpad platform, the most popular fiction reading site in the post-pandemic era. There are three things to be underlined as the result; 1) the content for grammar material is adequate; 2) the learning material is validated as mindful and suitable for students to read; 3) the try-out questionnaire showed positive results of EFL learners’ perspective to the material.","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116175656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the essential pronunciation features is stress. Although sometimes neglected, stress is said to have necessary implication for one’s speaking skills. This study attempted to reveal the problems in verb stress placement encountered by prospective Indonesian EFL teachers. The data were obtained from the recording of their class presentations. The verbs uttered during the presentations were categorized into verb types depending on the number of syllables, i.e. disyllabic verbs, trisyllabic verbs, and tetrasyllabic (or longer) verbs, and then analyzed in terms of their pronunciation accuracy. From the analysis, it could be concluded that there were two kinds of problems in placing verb stress which the prospective Indonesian EFL teachers encountered, namely they misplaced the stress and they put double stresses on a verb. Most of them put the stress on syllables which could not obtain any stresses, such as suffixes. Meanwhile, some others put double stresses on either trisyllabic verbs or verbs with four or more syllables, where, in fact, such stresses could only be obtained by disyllabic verbs. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124969092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It offers an endless supply of authentic, real-life, up-to-date materials that may benefit English Language Teaching (ELT). This research aims to investigate to what extent the authentic materials through YouTube may benefit English Language Teaching of secondary education in Indonesia. This descriptive qualitative study employed questionnaires, classroom observations and textbook analysis as the data collection methods. A purposive sample of 125 XI graders of senior high school participated in this study. This primary research was followed by secondary one by reviewing recent literary works systematically. The results of the study suggest that Indonesian students seemingly need more exposure to English language and the advance of information and communication technologies (ICTs), particularly YouTube, is likely to foster English Language Teaching of secondary education in Indonesia since it provides abundant authentic materials related to real-life contexts.","PeriodicalId":191230,"journal":{"name":"ELTR Journal","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133581122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
