Kato","doi":"10.11279/JFES.79.374","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.11279/JFES.79.374","url":null,"abstract":"Ultrasonic measurement was carried out with specimens made by aluminum alloy die-cast plates (ADC12) having a cold flake to observe echoes reflected from the surface, bottom and cold flake. The echo reflected from the cold flake had the same phase as that of the surface echo, and it was found that the ultrasonic wave was reflected from the oxide layer of the cold flake. This means that the cold flake and the matrix are not separated but stick together or join together. Next, ultrasonic measurement was carried out with specimens containing cold flake transversely to the tensile direction during tensile testing with a water bag to examine the change in the echo reflected from the cold flake. In the case of the specimen containing coarse cold fake, the phase of the echo reflected from the cold flake was reversed in the tensile testing, and it was found that debonding occurred between the cold flake and matrix to open the crack at the cold flake. And in some cases, the echo reflected from the cold flake approached to the surface 0.1 mm or less with increasing tensile deformation. Similar results were obtained with specimens containing rather smaller cold flake. These results show that a crack initiates at the cold flake in the tensile deformation of the aluminum alloy die-casts, and also suggests that a crack may grow shortly before final failure.","PeriodicalId":190136,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Japan Foundry Engineering Society","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130215169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The speci-mens were austenitized at 1223 K-900 s , and the range of cooling time from AC3 to 773 K was about 3 s to 4000 s. The volume of crystallized carbide in the low a l1 0yed ductile iron containing 3.5 mass%Cr ranged from 25% to 28%. The ferrite transformation region in CCT diagrams for ductile irons containing Cr less than 1 mass% shifted to a longer cooling time , and did not exist for duc ti1 e irons containing Cr more than 2 mass%. The pearlite transformation region in CCT diagrams shifted to a higher temperature and a shorter cooling time with increasing Cr content of ductile iron. The bainite transformation region existed only in CCT diagrams for ductile iron with 0.5 mass%Cr. The martensite transformation region less than 2 mass%Cr moved to a lower temperature with an increase in Cr conten t. The hardness of quenched ductile irons containing 0.5 mass%Cr to 2 mass%Cr was about 630HVI0 and that of the ductile iron containing 3.5 mass%Cr was about 800HVI0. The effects of Cr on hardenability for low alloyed ductile irons were smal l.","PeriodicalId":190136,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Japan Foundry Engineering Society","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122335113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specimens with the Mg/P ratio of 2.2 showed lower tensile elongation of 5% at 673 K , which meant the embrittlement was caused by intergranular fracture. In contrast , impact tested specimens showed the lowest absorbed energy in the temperature range of 973 to 1073 K , which correspcmded to the embrittlement at 673 K in tensile tests. It was found that temperatures showing embrittlement increased as the strain rate increased due to differences in experimental methods.","PeriodicalId":190136,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Japan Foundry Engineering Society","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123978219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
