Material and Methods: The records of 84 patients, who had phacoemulsification and IOL implantation between 2010 and 2015, were retrospectively examined. The main outcomes were final visual acuity, postoperative complications, the presence of relapse, the clinical features of patients who suffered a recurrence of intraocular inflammation and the effect of triamcinolone acetonide injection into the anterior chamber during surgery on the recurrence of inflammation after cataract surgery within the first 6 months. Results: The study included 109 eyes of 84 patients. The mean follow-up time was 52.6±41.8 (9-224) months. During the follow-up, posterior capsule opacification occurred in 48 (44.0%), deposits on the IOL surface in 19 (17.4%), posterior synechiae in 2 (1.8%), epiretinal membrane in 4 (3.6%), glaucoma in 7 (6.4%), and macular edema in 5 (4.5%) patients. The best corrected visual acuity with the Snellen chart at the final visit was ≤0.16 in 66.7% of serpiginous choroidopathy patients and 38% of Behçet patients. These rates were higher than with other clinical etiologies. Recurrence of uveitis within 6 months after cataract surgery occurred in 15 (13.7%) eyes. Recurrence was most common in patients with Behcet’s disease. Pre-existing macular lesions were accompanied by poor visual outcomes. There was no difference between the eyes administered triamcinolone into the anterior chamber or not, regarding the frequency of attacks within the first 6 months or the postoperative complications. Conclusion: Cataract surgery outcomes in patients with uveitis are satisfactory. However, patients with Behcet’s disease have higher risk for relapse of intraocular inflammation and worse visual outcomes.","PeriodicalId":190073,"journal":{"name":"Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Ophthalmology","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131608931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, it is aimed to examine various personal protective equipment and clothes used by ophthalmologists to protect themselves in ophthalmology and analyze the changes in their attitude and approaches towards patients during the pandemic period. Material and Methods: During a 3-month period beginning from the pandemic in Turkey, a 22-question survey about ophthalmologists’ use of mask, clothes, biomicroscope breathing shield, protective glasses, gloves, the habit of giving contact lens, surgical practices in the clinic, number of patients, attitude towards patients, contacts with the confirmed COVID-19 patients and COVID-19 duties apart from ophthalmology have been prepared and sent to all opthalmologists working in Turkey and the obtained data were analyzed. Results: A hundred and twelve voluntary ophthalmologists have participated in the study. While all participants were putting on masks in the clinic, 79.6% of them were wearing protective clothes, 64.5% of them were putting on face shields and 96.4% of them were using a biomicroscope breathing shield. While 44% of the participants have been in non-ophthalmology COVID-19 duty, 92% of participants' giving contact lenses, and the surgical routine of 93% of them have changed during the pandemic period. Communications with patients, patient numbers, and examination duration have also been affected by the pandemic period at varying degrees. Conclusion: In the pandemic period, many ophthalmologists have been on the pandemic duty aside from their fields and this period has affected at varying rates the duration of ophthalmologists' communication and examination, their patient number, and their routines such as giving contact lens and surgical practice.","PeriodicalId":190073,"journal":{"name":"Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Ophthalmology","volume":"331 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123100522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Methods: Contrast sensitivity of the participants was measured and their pupillography under scotopic, mesopic and photopic illumination and topography were taken. Transparent senofilcon A (Acuvue Oasys hydraLuxe) CL was inserted to one eye of the subjects and photochromic senofilcon A (Acuvue Oasys with transitions) CL was inserted to the other eye. Sub-sequently, contrast sensitivity of subjects was measured, pupillography and topography were taken again over the CL. Aberration values were obtained from the topography. In terms of occurred changes, the eye with photochromic CL was compared with the other eye. Results: Before CL insertion, there was no significant difference between the pho- tochromic side and the other side in terms of all parameters examined (for all; p>0.05). After CL insertion, there was no significant change in scotopic, mesopic and photopic pupil diameters on both the photochromic and transparent sides compared to the pre-CL condition (for all; p>0.05), high order aberrations increased (p<0.05), and contrast sensitivity at high frequencies (12 and 18 cpd) decreased (for both; p<0.05). When the photochromic side was compared with the transparent side after CL insertion, no significant difference was observed in terms of all parameters (for all; p>0.05). Conclusion: Using the photochromic CL in indoors does not lead to different results than the trans- parent CL in terms of visual quality and pupil diameters. Both lenses cause a decrease in contrast sensitivity at high frequencies.","PeriodicalId":190073,"journal":{"name":"Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Ophthalmology","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127315877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the end of the 5-year follow-up period, graft survival was 93.9% after PK and 100% after DALK (p=0.17). The most common complication during follow-up was increased intraocular pressure (IOP), which was 33% in patients who underwent PK and 6.5% in patients who underwent DALK (p=0.08). Conclusion: Long-term visual outcomes of PK and DALK surgeries are similar in eyes with kerato-conus. Increased IOP and graft rejection are observed more frequently after PK.
