This research explores the effectiveness of encouraging non-digital service users to shift to digital services to lodge their annual income tax return in Australia. Through the application of a quasi-randomised control trial, tested whether or not encouraging historically non-digital lodgers will shift to digital channels for a treatment group compared to those who did not receive the message. This small study suggests that individuals are encouraged to use digital services by Government support, are more likely to change from non-digital to digital. Furthermore, there are two characteristics which predict the who will shift. Through the use of strategically placed encouragement and digital assistance, makes an individual more likely to shift to digital channels. However, this research demonstrates predictive analytics has a place in the long term adoption of eGovernment services.","PeriodicalId":189678,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2020)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134544331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We study artefact gamification outcomes of decisions to implement a gamification solution in parallel with the business model the organization operates under found across the literature, in order to identify whether the overarching business model correlates with the type of gamification solution selected for development in the course of their efforts for innovation. Furthermore, we aim to examine the gamification design decisions implemented in selected systems across industries in order to extract valuable input that will help decision makers of companies of similar business models derive to an informed decision relative to their own potential gamification implementation. In this short paper we describe our research approach and recent progress on the utilization of the business models’ patterns identified in the St. Gallen’s Business Model Navigator TM in parallel to the Business Model Canvas and to gamification solutions as means to uncover potentially valuable patterns.","PeriodicalId":189678,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2020)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125833221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first method is an exponential smoothing model (parametric model) and the second forecast method is a machine learning model (artificial neural network model). We used a time series data with seasonality such as sunspot number data to evaluate the models. Our experiments show that the second forecast method has a better result in the sunspot data. We have also understood the difficulty in the modeling and implementation of those methods to forecasting and discuss their use in a real world application. Correlation of low season of sunspots and the low market prices is also observed.","PeriodicalId":189678,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2020)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131837206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of e-government is a major technological achievement allowing citizens to participate equally in the political process. E-government and E-Participation, as a part of e-democracy, encompass social, economic and cultural conditions that enable the free and equal practice of political self-determination. Information and Communications Technology can be a powerful tool to increase the quality of public policy, citizens understanding of public policy issues and their participation in government policy making. International Relevance: According to the Government Online International Network, governments around the globe are actively promoting online consultations in order to strengthen democracy and development (Poland, 2001). Yet, a major citizens’ concern about the usage of e-democracy tools, and more specifically, e-deliberation apparatuses is data security and confidentiality. Within a process of expressing political opinions, citizens need to be reassured that the collected data will only be used for the intended purposes and the possibility of data leakage will be minimized. While mainstream technology (firewalls, encrypted databases, etc.) can provide quite a substantial level of security, data confidentiality issues arise every day. Aim: The aim of this paper is to report on the first phase of an ongoing research aimed at designing, developing and testing an e-deliberation tool. This first phase represents the collection of experts’ opinions for the design of an e-deliberation tool through literature review, survey with experts and expert group workshops. We present the operationalization of a series of criteria for e-deliberation tool comparison. This operationalization will be used to build a questionnaire for experts in the field of e-deliberation and to guide data collection though a series of expert group workshops. Methodology: A review of the literature has been performed in order to select relevant criteria and variables which will be used to build a questionnaire for experts in the field of e-deliberation. We report on the operationalization of these variables and criteria. Impact: The results of this research will be used to further inform e-deliberation tool development.","PeriodicalId":189678,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2020)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126203034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different digital and customer services are essential to increase the success of online shops, as a representative survey among 300 online shops indicates. More than the half of the e-shops offer free shipping and product reviews, and already one third provides personalized content or product offers. To increase sales, the majority of online shops provide discount codes and recommendation of complementary and alternative products. Surprisingly, every third online shop implemented an online configurator for mass customized products or services. Three quarters answered that digital analytics is important for analyzing and controlling digital business. Analyzing different success factors, this contribution shows that customer-, service- and data-driven online shops generate higher conversions rates and revenues. Product reviews, discount codes, personalization and the recommendation of alternative products lead to significant higher conversion rates. Most online retailers are selling on different distribution channels like e-mail, phone, digital marketplaces and pick-up stores. Finally, successful omnichannel vendors are using a variety of digital marketing channels such as search engine optimization and advertising, newsletter marketing, social media and influencer marketing.","PeriodicalId":189678,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2020)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133549429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technological reality transforms the business scenario and gives a new look over subjects that were thought of as optimized and completely stable. Still, this can threaten the survival of some companies, as well as allow the creation of others, promote new markets and make it easier to globalize. Virtualization and cloud computing present themselves as technologies capable of that transformation as a business scenario, even more effective if used together.","PeriodicalId":189678,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2020)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115846408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In cloud computing, achieving load balancing across large distributed virtual machines is considered a complex optimization problem with an essential importance in cloud computing systems and data centers as the overloading or underloading of tasks on VMs may cause multiple issues in the cloud system like longer execution time, machine failure, high power consumption, etc. Therefore, load balancing mechanism is an important aspect in cloud computing that assist in overcoming different performance issues. In this research, we propose a new approach that combines the advantages of different task allocation algorithms like Round robin algorithm, and Random allocation with different threshold techniques like the VM utilization and the number of allocation counts using least connection mechanism. We performed extensive simulations and experiments that augment different scheduling policies to overcome the resource utilization problem without compromising other performance measures like makespan and execution time of the tasks. The proposed system provided better results compared to the original round robin as it takes into consideration the dynamic state of the system.","PeriodicalId":189678,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2020)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115617731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its success is also criticized, because it is assumed that readers are not able to identify these contributions as advertising. The purpose of this study is to outline whether readers recognize native ads and how it affects the trust in the content of the articles. It is also intended to help advertisers and publishers better understand the impact of native advertising and its disclosure on readers. The method of this research is based on a theoretical and empirical approach. For the theoretical aspects of this study, a literature analysis was applied, whereas a quantitative analysis in the form of an experiment was conducted for the empirical part. The study shows that a majority of the sample did not recognize the article as native ad. After the disclosure of native advertising a decrease in trust could be determined. However, this is not significant, which means that the majority of readers still trust the content of the article. It is also found that respondents for whom the content of the article is relevant are less concerned about the article being paid for. Thus, it can be said that the success of native advertising may in fact be related to the inability of readers to recognize this type of advertising. The increased recognition of such contributions, however, does not necessarily lead to a reduced success of native advertising, because the majority of contributions are trusted even after disclosure.","PeriodicalId":189678,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2020)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129007522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobility support, interoperability, scalability, and security are critical challenges for the Internet of Things (IoT). Recent research shows that Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is an emerging paradigm as an alternative Future Internet architecture that has the potential to solve these problems holistically. The central premise behind ICN is a fundamental change from host-centric based communications to content-centric with name-driven networking primitives that natively support multicast, mobility, and content-oriented security. However, there remain challenges in securing the ICN-IoT. This document describes the deficiencies of existing Internet, an ICN architecture, the characteristics that make it well-suited for the IoT, then summarizes a proposed architecture for securely instantiating devices into edge networks.","PeriodicalId":189678,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on e-Society (ES 2020)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133475001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
