The modelling of dynamic cell behaviour is crucial to improve the performance of reconfigurable battery systems, in which monitoring of the dynamics allows more resoluted leveraging of the battery cells. However, the models of lithium-ion cells are generally inaccurate due to nonlinearities, measurement noise and because the most descriptive state, the state of charge is hidden. Furthermore, the parameter identification of the model requires time and precise measurements, while they differ among the cells, and change as the cells age. The burden of the detailed modelling of a battery system can be alleviated by modelling a single cell, and using the model for each cell in the system. In this work, this possibility is explored by validating a single-cell reference model for a reconfigurable battery system. The terminal voltage residual (error between model and measurement) is presented, and its correlations with internal and external variables are investigated. These correlations can also be used to alleviate the modelling errors. It is concluded that the reference model can qualitatively describe the cell behaviour. By applying small modifications, the model could be used for online estimation.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121233040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper, to effectively analyze the massive power system data, proposes a systematic multi-scenario modeling method for power system planning based on data mining techniques. The typical scenario set for planning and operation is generated and cut through the improved K-means aggregation algorithm that is firstly developed in the paper. A real-world provincial power system in China is served to validate the proposed multi-scenario modeling method.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128910048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three SC strategies are designed with a focus on user interests, the vehicle charges depending on (1) spot price and time-of-use (ToU) tariffs, (2) prognosis for grams of emission per kWh, and (3) own PV production. All strategies consider a local virtual aggregator, which collects information regarding price and emission prognosis, power flow at the household meter, EV connection time, time availability, and EV-user charging needs. Based on a survey of EV Danish owners, three charging patterns are identified and used to compare the effect of varying the charging flexibility within the aforementioned SC strategies. The results show that strategies with regard to price and emission signals are able not only to provide a positive impact on their own specific goal but also to reduce both costs and CO2 emissions. However, this is highly dependent on the connection time of EVs, where overnight charging and more frequent EV connection increase the strategies effect. Charging based on own PV production requires greater user awareness with respect to connection times to have a noticeable effect. However, when the EV is connected during sunny hours, there is good potential for self-consumption increase.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115990897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We formulate an optimization problem to optimise a power producer's plant sizing for this tariff-based bidding process. The outcome is an investment optimisation model for a hybrid power system that complies with the specific Round-the-Clock tender criteria. Results indicate that the invitation to tender incentivises investment in renewable power instead of conventional thermal coal power, increasing the renewable power capacity share by a factor of 1.5 when flexibility is added to the firm capacity conditions. Further, the optimal investment outcome shows a critical dependence on the specific tender parameters.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123731612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different FCR services differ in revenues and energy throughput, which induces costs due to conversion losses, tariffs, but it also leads to a significant number of battery cycles that reduce the battery capacity over time. The normal operation reserve (FCR-N) had the highest revenues in the past years, but comes along with a higher energy throughput than the disturbance reserve (FCR-D) which also has a lower price. Based on the Nordic regulatory frame work with 5 years of market and tariff data, the present study demonstrates that by choosing the most profitable service for each hour it is possible to reduce the number of charge cycles with 51% and increase the operating profit with 22% compared to delivering pure FCR-N.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123745530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigated control functions are frequency response, absolute power constraint, and ramp rate constraint. The considered requirements are specified in the Danish Grid Code for battery systems with rated grid connection below 125 kW. With the designed procedures, battery systems can be characterized thoroughly, fully examining the three required success criteria: accuracy, sensitivity, and response time. The testing procedures are experimentally applied to a 33.5 kW/95kWh reconfigurable battery storage system. The testbed was built at PowerLabDK at DTU. Results from the testing campaign showed that the battery storage operates under the specified control functions, meeting accuracy, sensitivity, and response time requirements.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"284 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125033353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Supported by the national energy policy vision, the scenarios assume the use of captured biogenic CO2 emissions to generate synthetic methane as well as the geological storage of fossil CO2. Although carbon capture, utilization and storage tackles CO2 emissions, while maintaining fuel combustion and industrial processes, the deployment of the technology may lead to side effects on the overall energy system, such as on renewable power generation necessary to produce synthetic fuels. This study analyses the spillover effects (i.e., the impacts) of carbon capture, utilization and storage in the Lusitanian Basin in the Portuguese energy system, namely in the national power capacity and final energy consumption. The analysis is supported by the linear optimization energy system model TIMES_PT. Results show that by 2050, the generation of synthetic methane by hydrogen from electrolysis and CO2 (e-gas) demands a large amount of green hydrogen, 29% more than compared with a cost-effective decarbonization scenario. Consequently, a higher installed power capacity of solar and wind (above 6 GW by 2050) will be required. Contrary to what would be expected, the mandatory generation of e-gas does not lead to a reduction in electricity consumption in final users, as the synthetic fuel substitutes instead biomass/biogas and the direct use of hydrogen.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132611335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is related not only to the specific requirements of the thermal environment regarding the type of activities taking place as well to the considerable high load demands enforced by the presence of people. This paper evaluates the energy consumption of the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA), extracts energy baselines as a reference for the following studies and proposes a new strategy to improve and optimize its energy system operation. In particular, the concept of a microgrid is introduced in the grid of OAKA, where load demand is exclusively served by energy imports from the external local grid. Therefore, the highest possible autonomous operation of the internal grid is examined, minimizing the imports from the city’s grid. To achieve this, the maximum possible installation of PV combined with battery storage units is examined, using as backup units the existing gensets of the facilities.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"84 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133557148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The DNP is an open-loop frequency response design method with an embedded capability of allocating a complex pole pair of the closed-loop system in a two-step non–iterative approach. The GFM is modeled as a virtual synchronous machine (VSM) and PODs feeding back the VSM virtual angular speed into the active power and the voltage reference signals are analyzed. Given that the DNP is a transfer-function-based method, an approach is proposed to obtain the input and output matrices of the state-space model when only the state matrix can be calculated due to a limitation in the modeling software.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125054515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assessing water quality in terms of its various uses is not without significance. This study investigates the water quality within two small hydropower plants in an urban area from natural, social and economic perspectives. Wroclaw I and Wroclaw II hydropower plants on the Odra River in Poland were selected as case studies. This study presents the results of four-year research (2017-2020) for points located upstream and downstream of the intake. The following elements were assessed: physicochemical status, trophic status, assessment of fish living conditions, and water quality indices. The results show that hydropower plants improved the average physicochemical status of BOD5 (by 6.19% comparing the results downstream and upstream of the hydropower plant), dissolved oxygen (3.S5%), PO4 - P (3.31%), and electrical conductivity (0.52%), however, they worsened in the case of the pH (by 2.63%) and NO3-N (by 1.S3%). Water near the study cases is classified as mesotrophic or eutrophic. The conditions for the existence of salmonids and cyprinids were not met due to the increased concentrations of NO2 and BOD5 values. In the case of salmonids, also due to the temperature and dissolved oxygen concentration. The water quality indices differed and indicated the quality from poor to good, depending on the classification. This study provides important insights for policymakers regarding the impacts of small hydropower plants on water quality in urban areas.","PeriodicalId":187362,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies (REST)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126265526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
