First, the influences caused by slicks on clean sea are studied and analyzed with the action balance function. Slicks on sea surface make significant impacts on the wind input, the nonlinear wave-wave interactions and the viscous dissipation. A damping model based on the action balance equation is introduced. And then, simulations are made by assuming the surface height spectra proposed by Elfouhaily et al. and Hwang, respectively. The two scale model (TSM) is used to calculate the normalized radar cross sections (NRCS) of oil-free and oil-covered sea surfaces. Additionally, an UAVSAR image which was collected during the Deep Water Horizon oil spill accident occurred in the Gulf of Mexico is served as a reference. The numerical comparisons between simulated results and measured data have shown that, for clean sea surface, the VV polarized NRCS simulated with Elfouhaily spectrum agree well with UA VSAR data, the HV polarized NRCS simulated with Hwang spectrum agree well with UA VSAR data. For polluted sea surface, the VV polarized NRCS simulated with Elfouhaily spectrum matches well with measured data. Overall, numerical simulations with Elfouhaily spectrum seem better than Hwang spectrum in our simulations.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126177711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such returns can be cancelled from the surveillance signal, lowering the ambiguity floor and reducing demands on dynamic range. Modern passive radar systems frequently use OFDM-based illuminators of opportunity, and recent studies have demonstrated how the structure of OFDM signals can be exploited to perform delay-Doppler filtering in the frequency domain. In this study several aspects of one such algorithm are investigated: the ability to cancel returns when delay is not a whole number of samples; the ability to conserve computation by approximating a projection matrix; the effect of returns having delays exceeding the OFDM guard interval; and the application of the method to extended targets. The consideration of these aspects demonstrates the efficacy of the method in situations common to passive radar.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125084499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance is achieved through waveform diversity. In terms of MIMO radar space-time adaptive processing (STAP), it is often assumed that the received signals has already been separated by a bank of matched filters (MFs) or the covariance matrix of the waveforms is an identity matrix. We find that when the non-complete orthogonality of the waveforms is taken into consideration, MIMO radar STAP suffers performance degradation. Besides, inspired by the definition of waveform diversity, a space-time-range adaptive processing (STRAP) scheme is proposed based on the framework of adaptive pulse compression (APC) and the criterion of minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) to overcome the influence of non-completely orthogonal waveforms by taking into account the interference of nearby range cells to estimate the covariance matrix. The proposed algorithms are assessed via simulation experiments in two scenarios in comparison with sequential processing and the results show the effectiveness of STRAP.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121722834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithms are intended to be applied in a permanently installed passive-radar network and to this end, real-time signal processing considerations are also discussed. The processing methods are evaluated on a data set measured using the passive-radar network and the performance and shortcomings of each method are analysed. It is found that a hybrid Matching Pursuit (MP) method consistently produces the best results, while maintaining reasonable processing and memory requirements for the real-time processing chain. Using Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) resulted in highest overall probability of detection (Pd), 31 % higher (SNR increased by 11.8 dB) than a conventional matched filter.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128246579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, relevant researches mainly focus on HRRP single target recognition. In this paper, we study the problem of radar HRRP group-target recognition, especially when overlap and occlusion occur among the multiple targets in the group. The group-target recognition is designed as a two-stage process. The first is to classify the specific group-target or single target based on principal component analysis (PCA) dimension reduction method, back propagation (BP) neural network and support vector machine (SVM), the second is to recognize the specific targets contained in the group based on maximum correlation coefficient (MCC) method with sliding window. In the numerical simulation with both the Gaussian white noise and sea clutter background, we present maximum correlation coefficient result and the statistical recognition rate of specific targets in the group with respect to rotation angle.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116565866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence a QPC waveform coded by a binary sequence with the minimum peak sidelobe level (PSL) results in a continuous phase modulated (CPM) waveform with the optimal PSR. To improve the spectrum of the original QPC waveform, the Gaussian minimum shift keying (GMSK) coding function is used to code the QPC waveform making the phase continuous and differentiable. In addition, a spectral optimisation model is proposed to further refine the GMSK-coded QPC waveform. The final product is a constrained-bandwidth constant-amplitude waveform whose phase profile is continuous, smooth and differentiable. It has optimal PSR and optimal spectrum which quite satisfies the criteria specified by the US National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133084810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In many practical applications of radar signals processing, reducing the redundancy inherent in linear arrays is advantageous. Arrays employing a coprime-pair configuration offer an increased number of degrees of freedom and permit the detection of more sources than sensors. Traditionally, this is achieved using conventional subspace-based methods. While these methods, such as MUltiple Signal Classification (MUSIC), are capable of high-resolution, the computational complexity of these algorithms is a significant hindrance to their practical implementation as the number of sensors increases. Furthermore, they must resort to spatial smoothing in order to calculate the covariance matrix. We, on the other hand, propose a fast iterative interpolated beamforming algorithm that has a computational complexity of the same order as the fast Fourier transform (FFT). The proposed approach is capable of delivering high fidelity DOA estimates that outperform the traditional high resolution methods. Simulation results demonstrate the DOA estimation performance of the technique.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114880718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To devise coarse target recognition scheme, it is necessary to study and model different types of aerial targets for micro-Doppler signature. In this paper, JET Engine Modulation(JEM), Helicopter Rotor Engine Modulation(HERM), propeller modulation is simulated for surveillance band radar using standard existing models. The simulated I/Q data is validated with some degree of closeness against real radar data. Doppler energy received for different types of targets varies with aspect, range and RCS. This energy is quantified at coarser level target recognition into different classes. Since the normal radar waveform for search and track function is used for this quantification, the radar computational resources are saved. The radar tracker kinematics, aspect angle and RCS is also used in conjunction with Doppler information to increase confidence of classification. Thereafter, specially designed NCTR waveform for feature extraction can be played for track with high confidence.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134006993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper concerns waveform design at the background of colocated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar to combat with the repeat jammers. Specifically, since the amplifiers of transmit circuits of repeat jammers often operate in the saturation mode, the repeat jamming signals should be constant modulus. However, for colocated MIMO radar, the synthetic angular waveform in space often is nonconstant modulus, which may have better performance in such environment. Under the assumption that hostile jammers operate in the saturation mode, we formulate a min-max design criterion that minimizes cross correlation between an angular waveform and a constant modulus waveform with the same phase terms. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124937728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
