By vertically beamforming multiple across-track channels per pass, the canopy interference can be suppressed. We formulate this as a dual-layer (ground and volume) multichannel coherence estimation problem and derive the beamformer that optimally suppresses the volume component in each pass. Beamformer performance is analysed using the random-volume-over-ground model of forest scattering. It is shown that reasonable volume suppression is achievable with just three channels, and this performance is not overly sensitive to model parameters. We also discuss the trade-off between foliage penetration and change sensitivity for wavelength selection.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127174571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a modified cell averaging CFAR detector based on Grubbs criterion (CAG-CFAR) is proposed for multiple-target scenario, which is encountered when two or more targets are displayed closely in the range domain. The CFAR property of the proposed method with respect to the distribution parameter in exponential-distributed background is verified via Monte Carlo simulations. The CAG-CFAR detector does not require a priori knowledge of the number of interfering targets., achieving a robust detection performance with a low computational burden. Comparisons of the detection performance of the CAG-CFAR detector with several relevant competitors verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method in multiple-target situation with an unknown number of the interfering targets.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121947111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the large wavelength of such systems, accurate beamforming at the reception side would require unpractical large reception devices of several meter height. We instead propose to solve this problem by means of a MIMO-like system that exploits the vertical structure of large existing FM broadcasters transmitting different frequency subbands with antennas located at different heights. We provide the MIMO-FM ambiguity function in that context and details the specific reception processing enabling to retrieve the elevation parameters. The feasibility of such a MIMO-FM system is proved on real data experiment using transmitting antennas located on the Eiffel Tower in Paris.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125761309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The suggested fusion approach is based on the fact from the Born approximation that the wavenumber-domain signal in a given scattering direction can be represented as a sum of the same number of contributions over the whole bandwidth. Utilizing this fact, the wavenumber-domain signal in each radial direction can be modeled as a superposition of damped/undamped exponential functions, where measured multiband data are part of the observations of the whole-band signal. Then the multiband signal fusion is addressed by estimating a unified signal model over the while bandwidth with the matrix pencil approach in the wavenumber domain. By using the estimated signal model, the missing data in the frequency gap can be extrapolated, thus synthesizing an equivalent wideband signal spectrum. After an inverse Fourier transform, the synthesize spectrum leads to a focused image with enhanced resolution. Compared to the existing frequency-domain method, the proposed fusion approach can be used for radar imaging with the signals acquired by either collocated or non-collocated arrays in different frequency bands. The effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed fusion approach are demonstrated through some numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114153134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to the traditional delay-based jammer, our proposed jamming method can easily generate a lot of false targets that are evenly distributed around the true target, and the number of false targets depends on array elements, which implies that many false targets can be generated easily. It comprises a swash-plate mirror scanned Radar Acoustic Sounding System (scaRASS) to produce high resolution “images” of the air in front of the UAV. The 40 kHz/ 17 GHz narrow beam RASS produces images based on Bragg enhanced Doppler radar reflections from the acoustic pulse as it travels. The technique is suited to imaging still air, or air moving in a laminar fashion but returns will be disrupted by air turbulence, so the 3D image generated will identify clear regions in front of the UAV. Tests using fan generated vortices showed some disruption and ongoing research using Schlieren imaging is being used to quantify the interaction of the acoustic pulse with the turbulence.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131169371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The jammer nulling adaptive waveforms function as a countermeasure against narrowband jamming signals that disrupts the CRr platform's ability to classify the targets accurately when utilizing jammer-uncompensated adaptive waveforms. The jammer nulling waveforms are derived based on optimizing signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) and mutual information (MI) metrics; while the adaptive waveforms are obtained by the jammer incorporated probability-weighted energy (PWE) or probability-weighted spectral density (PWSD) method. High-fidelity EM simulated radar cross section (RCS) responses of aircraft targets are utilized to investigate the performance of jammer nulling adaptive waveforms. The results from simulations show an improvement in jamming nulling SINR and MI-based waveforms' classification performance over their jammer-uncompensated counterparts and the receive-adaptive wideband pulsed waveform. The increase in classification performance depends on the target frequency responses and the narrowband jammer spectrum profile.","PeriodicalId":187176,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Radar (RADAR)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134050021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
